Geoff's "Black Bird" on his private channel shows pretty much his entire range from highest to lowest. i mean, technically he can do a B0 growl note, but that's not in the song, lol. i'm sure he is technically able to go even a little higher than he shows in this song as well, but being able to reach a note and being able to reach it in a way that is still pleasant to listen to, are 2 different things :)
Geoff's drop at the end of this song was B4 to E1. Three and 7/12 octaves within a few seconds. He also gets down to E1 in Blackbird. I don't know what song would have his highest note in it. Altogether, Voiceplay did four songs from Nightmate Before Christmas. For costumes, makeup and characterizations, there's those, Little Mermaid Medley, You're a Mean One Mr Grinch, and a few others. Due to Earl leaving, and to COVID restrictions, Geoff started doing solo stuff on his own YT channel last year. All but one of the songs he's put up so far involve him multitracking his own voice. So that's a good place to look to find his widest range.
There is a live stage show they did where they were playing musical chairs & at the end he hit a super super high note. It's called Toxic Audio Performing "Grace Kelly" at LHP
Geoff is a musical machine! Haha. If you want to see another amazing performance check out the "Queen in 5 minutes" video, is amazing!!, they tell a whole story there. As per Geoff's high notes you can see his cover of "High and Dry" which is part of his solo work and with Voiceplay, at the end of their newest video, "If I were a rich man/girl" he is superb!
There is no real video that showcases every note of geoff's range xD but if you wanna see an amazing 4 octave slide by Geoff then you should watch their "Little Mermaid Medley" :)
Oh please do a reaction video of Voice Plays version of Tennessee Whiskey. The runs they do are awesome, especially the one at the end with all of them together in perfect harmony.
Santa is being played by Geoff`s brother in law love your reactions please keep it up, Geoff has a 5 octive range also his final note was an E1. Please can you do a reaction to voiceplay`s new one which is from fiddler on the roof-- if i was a rich man/girl
No way? That's awesome 😂 I might just have to have my brother do something similar for me down the road. I'd be happy to react to that video! I played the Rabbi in that musical in high school!
Talking about musical theater you should definitely check out their latest "If I Were A Rich Man/Girl" its from Fiddler. And it is epic! And for his range either The Little Mermaid medley or Blackbird or Queen in 5 Minutes. Geoff is a beast!
Check out Geoffs cover of Over Misty Mountains Cold on his channel. It's amazing & showcases his vocal range also 16 tons & the headless horseman you won't be disappointed 😊❤️
Have you done their little mermaid medley? Geoff plays Ursula. He hits a nice high note. His “poor unfortunate souls” is awesome. Check out home free if you haven’t. Another awesome acapella.
Voiceplay are masters!! If you want more of their awesome mix of theater and sound check out, Little Mermaid Medley, Queen in 5 minutes, Billie Eilish in 5 minutes!! So good!!
Your last expression on your face when Geoff hit that last note...you've been Geoffed. Virtually every person who does a reaction to this video, has the same shocked look on their face when he hits that subterranean note.
Haha, I mean, I don't know any other singer that can hit a note that low particularly. Maybe Tim Fouste but their will be more Home Free reactions to come!
I've watched this a million times (well, maybe only a thousand) and I love it. Geoff's high range is so impressive! I can't believe, being an Acapella fan that you haven't watched Home Free yet! You are missing out! You should do "Man of Constant Sorrow" by Home Free. Geoff and Avi and Tim (HF bass, basso profundo) are all friends and support each other's careers. It's awesome
Geoff Castellucci. He has his own channel. Ain't no sunshine and blackbird both showcase his ranges very well. Although of course all of his videos are awesome.
Sandy Claws (the name is from the Nightmare Before Christmas movie) is play by Pasquale Palazzolo, Geoff's brother-in-law. His daughter, Kristina, starts off the VoicePlay video Just Sing. If you haven't seen it you're really missing out on a very special online gathering. Make sure your CC is on. VoicePlay aren't called the a cappella theater kids for nothing.
There are two suggestions on who played Santa Clause and I don't know which is correct (if either). One is that this is Geoff's neighbor. The other is that this is Geoff's brother-in-law. Don't know who he is, really, but those are the two I've heard of who he is.
you need to check out "If I were a rich man/girl" he goes pretty high, then ridiculously low immediately after. I'm no vocal coach, but that's the highest I've heard him go other than singing his own high harmonies in his solo covers- things like blackbird.
VoicePlay has a lot of videos with the "theatrics", great examples are Queen in 5 minutes, This is Halloween or Phantom of the Opera. Also they have a lot where they wear costumes like the Little Mermaid medley (also great to showcase Geoff's range), Kidnap the Sandy Clause, Boy Bands in 5 minutes, Warriors and My Mother told me. To showcase Geoff's range just check out his channel, he goes pretty high in Blackbird and High and Dry. Also pls react to If I were a rich man/girl, Butter, We're good, the Billie Eilish medley and the Moana Medley.
For a better inkling of Geoff's range, try If I Were a Rich Man/Girl ft Ashley Diane. Their tonality & harmonies are awesome! Another group to try is Home Free. Try several of their videos before their cover of Mayday so you'll have down who does what part. They do an AWESOME job on Helplessly Hoping. They do a lot of fun songs, but don't do as much theatrics as VP does with makeup & such. VP has the market on that (which is terrific in it's own right). Great reaction!
Geoff’s range is confirmed by himself at G#1-A5 on any given day with chest and falsetto “without straining himself.” He can go down a step on some days, though, and he uses subharmonics, a technique to lower your voice an octave on a note, to hit as low as D1. Technically, Geoff can go down to B0 but it’s not very strong or long below Eb1 or D1 because of the technique he uses (growling.) Not as high as Mitch but I think he’s actually pretty close ignoring Mitch’s whistle notes.
The highest I can think of is Toxic Audio’s “Grace Kelly” (this was years ago, but at the end of the bit he is the lead and it is hysterical and astounding.
His own videos were already mentioned in other comments (love High and Dry). If you wanna hear Geoff sing the highest note I've ever heard from him you should check out "Toxic Audio performing "Grace Kelly" at LHP". It's an older video, fan cam and live, but really fun. And he goes fully Mika at the end. Live! I can't hit that note.😁
You should check out their Kidnap The Sandy Claws video - came out after Oogie Boogie (and This Is Halloween, What's This), it's part of their Nightmare Before Christmas playlist. If Mitch is something else, then what would Dimash Kudaibergen be?!
If you like Voiceplay or Geoff Castellucci you will also like another A Capella band called HOME FREE. PLEASE check out their cover of HOME FREE - WORKIN FOR A LIVIN HOME FREE and VOICEPLAY do the same exact thing but in a completely different way. btw, HOME FREE'S bass does tenor too
I'm aware of Home Free 😁 They also have amazing arrangements. I just haven't made as many reaction video to them... YET! But yeah Tim Foust is outstanding in Home Free!
I think Sixteen Tons shows a good range since he sings all four parts. Not being musically inclined myself, I have no idea what range this is. I think you might enjoy it though.
That Journey song is called Lights. One of my favorite childhood radio stations converted it to their jingle/theme song so I always thought of it as DDR's KFRC theme song. (DDR was Dr. Don Rose, DJ in the 70s-80s for AM610 in San Francisco.)
As far as we know, Geoff's range doesn't go as high as Mitch Grassi. Apart from some old live stuff where he goes off the rails, and that instructional video where he hits A0, A1, A2, A3, A4, A5 purely for demonstration purposes, I think the actual music video with the highest Geoff note might be Queen in 5 Minutes, at E-flat 5 ("bad mistakes, I've made a few"). The instructional video wherein he goes to A5 implies he hasn't really explored his upper limit that much, which suggests that if he stretched himself he could probably get up into the middle or top of octave 5, maybe even into the bottom of ocatve 6; but this falls short of that ridiculous "human tape recorder" nonsense Mitch does wherein he imitates squeaky marker sounds (among other things) well up into octave seven. There's no indication of Geoff being able to do anything like that. (Whereas, there's a recording of Mitch hitting a note in high octave 0, believe it or not. He's not comfortable enough down there to do it reliably or count on it for live performances, but frankly, as a countertenor, that's not his job anyway. If the basso profondo is busy doing something else for some reason, baritone Scott Hoying can hold up the low end well enough to make do, and he does, e.g., when Matt takes lead for a verse in Sound of Silence.)
The range compilations people compile ended at A5 in falsetto. I don't really care about range for the sake of range. If i get goosebumps that probably means i like it and would want that Dopamine hit again. 1st octave notes do that for me for male vocalists. 5th octave chest belts or chest dominant mixed voice for female vocalists. There are female vocalists that can hit the 1st octave but it's mostly air. Male vocalists hitting soprano notes are impressive from a technical perspective but it doesn't do it for me, they kinda sound like goats with one nasal passage clogged but lovely vibrato.
Someone might already said this but Geoff actually plays the Oogie Boogie Man. I absolutely love this music video. Layne arranged this and made Geoff go all the way from his highest range to his lowest range and Geoff was not happy about it but it sounds incredible.
Is his mic weirdly off-balance for anybody else? Like, I tried covering my left headphone and the right one is getting sound, but when he talks it sounds like he's sitting on my left shoulder. It's very odd.
Probably the placement of my microphone (which can be fixed) or your headphones/connection to your device. I get the same problem sometimes. Regardless, I hope you were able to enjoy the video reaction 😁
Have you done their little mermaid medley? Geoff plays Ursula. He hits a nice high note. His “poor unfortunate souls” is awesome. Check out home free if you haven’t. Another awesome .
Great reaction ! If you want to check more Home Free covers to compare all the acapella groups (in a good way of course), I would suggest « How great thou art » or « Helplessly hoping », you won’t be disappointed 😉
Geoff is Mr Oogie Boogie, hence the title. Not Jack Skelington, by the way. Yes, as others have said, see 'Blackbird'. Just multiple Geoffs and a piano. Range.? What! 💖
You wanna hear Geoff Castelluci full range check his cover of Blackbird, high and dry, 16 tons and headless horseman. He does a good cover of Country roads and misty mountain cold too. You won’t be disappointed!
Hey Jeff...really enjoy all your reactions. I'm curious though, have you ever reacted to Haley Reinhart...if not you should start off with her version of Creep (Radiohead) performed under PostModern Jukebox...absolutely amazing, then you can go from there.
Difference between Pentatonix and VoicePlay: If Pentatonix are the high school student council, VoicePlay are the theater dorks, and Home Free are the guys in the parking lot throwing the tailgate. (And they're all great friends.)
This is Halloween or Mr Grinch are great covers by them. Geoff's solo covers of 16 Tons and Misty Mountains Cold are also amazing. One of the best examples of Geoff's range is in their cover of The Little Mermaid Medley, when he is singing Ursula's song.
