@@TD1237 My parents were poor and I grew up poor and at a young age I was determined to have wealth and have the ability to buy the things I wanted in life. I started and built one successful business after another with no help from anyone and as time went on I realized just how easy it is to generate wealth.

The Mental Health issue is not really a Presidential created issue. The States defunded the mental institute in Oregon, for one. Why did they do that? The Governors seem to be the main cause for this issue . . . not the President. There needs to be a thorough audit of every States government, to include the Cities!!!
It reminds me when Reagan was governor of California, closed down the mental health hospitals, dumped them out on the streets, saved a lot of money, and kept them shut with the mental health-challenged people on the streets homeless and with no meds.

I too believe that we should be spending more money on the poor and less money on war. We should also be investing more money in our children's education. US children's test results are not as high as could be expected. 😢 I think that If we spent more money on public education then we would have fewer homeless people.

Since the minimum wage was created, and up until the early 1980s it was regularly increased, so that someone earning minimum wage could always afford a 1br apartment almost anywhere in the US, except the most expensive areas, like Beverly Hills type areas. Today, in 98% of zip codes, no housing is affordable on minimum wage. Most homeless people have jobs, but they just can't afford housing. At the same time, there are 33 empty homes per homeless person in America. In some states, TX and FL, there's 70 empty homes per homeless person, and in Miss. there's over 250; empty homes per homeless person. Peace ✌️
Greetings from Berlin/Germany 🎉thank God, we have a functionating social welfare system here in Germany and I would advice America to install one, too !! For example I get 1230 EUR every month from the social welfare as a disabled person, so I can pay my rent, food, nearly everything. Poverty and homelessness anyway are high in Germany but the state helps you to get a hotel room for example and pays for it. I am very glad and thankful to be born in Germany, love my country, and wish the great America to be up to date with social Infrastructure. To have a SOCIAL CAPITALISM, as we have. Luckily, my spouse and I were able to pay off our mortgage early. We took the money we were spending to accelerate our mortgage repayment and invested it right away while we were both still working. We were able to retire early after accumulating what would have been our home payment for over 7 years and maxing out our 401K/403B plans. Thankfully, both of our parents taught in us the importance of living within our means.

@@TD1237 We wanted Bernie Sanders when Hillary ran but they wouldn’t allow that. Bernie would have been great but I’m not sure he’s forceful enough. I don’t know enough about Jill Stein to really form an opinion but Cornell West seems to be a little too out there for most Americans. Besides Joe Biden did a fine job in his first four years it’s just that he is fighting against a very strong cult figure in Trump. Trump is horrible but he’s got the charisma to get the people to follow him and that’s a pretty strong hard thing to fight against but I think he’s done pretty well considering what he’s up against. He’s brought this country back from Covid which was quite a struggle considering what Trump left us. Most economist will agree that Biden has done an outstanding job with what he’s had to work with and it’s just that the propaganda from the right it’s just so hard to fight against that it really nobody really realizes it other than us Democrats. Homeless are the abandoned. Many from the recession, health care providers for their parents resulting in total loss (me). I have been on an 18 year Rollercoaster of homelessness. I understand why people give up after 3-5 years of hopes and plans. It all crashes and reality sets in.

Stop with the victim mentality. I’m old enough to remember how The Black Panther Party set up education and health centers in Oakland on their own. Incidentally, their early education program became the model for Head Start. It’s easy to complain why aren’t there more programs, etc. Fact is, while there could be, currently they’re not there. So why not bring all those people encamped, and volunteer their labor at Habitat for Humanity,and build/rehab housing.
