The voices of veterans come alive as former military men and women share their very personal and poignant stories of service. VOICES: Veterans Storytelling Project is the culmination of storytelling workshops by Orange County theatre artist Dave Barton.
In June and July of 2020, VOICES: Veterans Storytelling Project interviewed a dozen veterans, asking them to talk about their art. Adrienne Parks served in the Army Signal Corps before moving to the Army Reserves, and found that the Army did provide opportunities for her to develop and utilize her passion for art, and especially, for writing. She now advocates strongly for other veterans to use writing as a means to achieve a healthy relationship with their past experiences and their transition to civilian life. In this video, she shares poetry she has written during the emotional tests brought about by the pandemic.
VOICES: Veterans Storytelling Project is presented by Arts Orange County, Heroes Hall at the OC Fair & Event Center, and the Tierney Center for Veterans Services. VOICES is made possible in part through funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the California Arts Council, the Orange County Community Foundation, Heroes Hall Veterans Foundation, and the William Gillespie Foundation
