The voices of veterans come alive as former military men and women share their very personal and poignant stories of service. VOICES: Veterans Storytelling Project is the culmination of storytelling workshops by Orange County theatre artist Dave Barton.
In June and July of 2020, VOICES: Veterans Storytelling Project interviewed a dozen veterans, asking them to talk about their art. Walter Yenkosky served for 10 years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a machine gunner. While searching for the right vocabulary to describe the emotional experience of going from training into combat, he sees parallels between the discipline, preparation, and decision-making that went into operating his weapon, with that of an artist gathering the tools and skills needed to produce their work.
VOICES: Veterans Storytelling Project is presented by Arts Orange County, Heroes Hall at the OC Fair & Event Center, and the Tierney Center for Veterans Services.
