I've always seen ~ATH pronounced with the tilde, thus making it "til death". Given that the other programming languages are ^cake (carrot cake) and dis* (disasterisk), I'm pretty sure that was the intention. Other than that minor thing, I love this video! I'd say that the color more directly connected with Void would be the shade of grey which appears outside cannon during John's retcon shenanigans - which, if I'm not mistaken, is the same shade of grey which decorates parts of the MSPA website itself.

And you forgot to mention, as void characters they always struggle to stay relevant, and this happens in the final fight with The Condense. While everyone else is getting force choked by Her, roxy is just chillin in the background, then throws a dagger killing Her. She became relevant

I said "Yes" to every single thing you listed about Lord English, Doc Scratch, Equius and AR. Also, Equius contributes the Hemospectrum as a form of limitation on self-actualisation onto the trolls (Shown through Hiveswap and the Extended Zodiac.) Void players struggle with a social construct; Equius struggles with how the Hemospectrum, something he deludes himself into believing is constantly contradicted by himself and those around him. Similarly, Roxy struggles with human gender roles and seems the keenest on enforcing them amongst the Alpha kids, even when no one else seems to buy into it. Void's struggle is contrasted by Light in this way, with Light players showing very little regard for what is socially "right", "proper" or "acceptable".

I like the idea of Blood and Breath being complementary. They're my two favorite aspects. Freedom/Bondage (assuming you go with Blood being about relationships and bonds between people, which I do).

At one point Terezi describes the aspects as increasing levels of complexity that the universe takes, and in that case I think the pairings are, from less to most complex, Space/Time (which is the fabric of reality and that's why all game sessions need at least one of each of these players, Void/Light, which are the duality of "that what does or does not exist" (also represented in the light of Skaia and the void of the Furthest Ring), Life/Doom (Because you need living organisms and their death at least in a unicellular/herbological sense), Blood/Breath (The two parts of the circulatory system, lungs and veins), Mind/Heart (Unity versus multiplicity, emotion versus thought, etc), and then Hope/Rage, which are the most removed from simplicity and closer to abstraction, with the, being the capacity to realize (to make real) something out of belief, or to destroy it from lack of belief in it. They also have a negative/positive polarity, with positives being Space/Light/Life/Breath/Heart/Hope and negative being Time/Void/Doom/Blood/Mind/Rage. Space evolves into hope (Calliope) and Time into rage (Calliborn), and it's a good axis from which to analyze character dynamics and symbols. Late to the party to post this, sorry.

The idea of the color white being associated with void seems quite accurate. A lot of less relevant things in the comic, or maybe rather things that are to some degree defined by their lack of relevance, are entirely white. The guardians and lusii are an obvious example, as is the skin tone of the human kids. Another thing I realized that has me pretty baffled is that other than Roxy, Sollux is the one character we know of that successfully managed to subtract perfect forms from each other, when Terezi got him to fix John's jetpack. I really can't think of a good explanation for it, since he's not associated with void or the perfect form system anywhere else. I suppose maybe it says more about the mage class, since he did something that should have been impossible in order to make the jetpack which took John to his doom. Heck you could make a similar argument for how he contacted Doc Scratch. Holy smokes and he managed to create a working SGrub out of some ruin symbols, which subsequently doomed Alternia. I think I might actually be onto something here. And Meulin was supposedly a "miracle worker" I can't believe this I just found a workable theory for the mage class. Sorry I got a bit distracted there, great video, I'm off to see if my theory holds water.

Hello I know you won't see or read this or care but as I'm sure you've well and moved on in your life but, do me a favor and contemplate this: void and light govern perception and reality. My father told me this constantly when I was a child but I never understood it till now. I bet you he still doesn't understand it now. Just as one cannot reduce a form down any further, I think that each player is an outgrowth of their form, a clouded reflection of the original thing. One cannot say whether the aspect was assigned or selected, because by their nature they selected the aspect, and by their birth were assigned it.

i like how you say eequius its derived from latin equus, which means horse. pronounced /eh-kw-uus/. im pretty sure equius was intended to be pronounced like that, but with an extra -i- (or "ee" if you want) before the end.

I can explain rage and hope pairing :D Rage is about fear, anger, despair and disbelief. Only rage players that we got in a comic were destruction classes, which means that they supress or destroy rage actively, by solving anguments or sharing Hope with others, or passively (shown in Gamzees and Caliborn interactions) allowing others to use themselves ir other things as " punching bags" to calm someone down. Hope on the other hand is all about believing in your ideals, making them a little bit more real, having hope for better outcomes, etc. etc. The hope players we got were: Prince, who lost all hope, destroying it within himself, Bard, who was bully-like, and page, who was weak at first, but as he was growing and progressing, his hope was getting stronger, making things more real.

So... The more specific an alchemy result, the more pricey. Such as.. A dog vs a laborador vs a female lab vs my childhood lab, Ell. The generic dog may take less grist but my dog Ell, would take more?

If the color wheel is an issue, the two blank ones are exactly derse and prospit colors, and the time players are always derse and the space players always prospit, sooo yeah. If moving those would help, that might be a possibility

I tend to think that each aspect has its opposite, both central to the same theme in the other direction, creation vs destruction, freedom vs connection, ect. In addition, I feel that each aspect also has a counter. This countering only goes one way, as opposed to the opposites which is a two way pairing. Time counters space counters void counters ect

It's a shame this doesn't get more coverage, I really appreciate the time and effort you've put into your analysis and portraying your interpretation of Homestuck's world. I'm not exactly great at that sort of thing myself, but I do find it rather interesting, and well, Homestuck is just great. Looking forward to Hiveswap, still feel a bit sad that the original universe is kinda done with, but it's for the best that really great things come to an end gracefully, which I personally think is how it went down.

hey, if you had the chance would you want to play Sburb? cause I've spent the last year attempting to make a tabletop role-playing game, I call it SKRUB, and it's nearly finished, but there is always room to discuss more things in the meta that nobody is really sure about, and yank it it from the void by shining some light on it, thus allowing it to be properly factored into creation. Void is always a fun aspect to think about, cause yeah, it is designed to obfuscate itself, a true paradox. it's interesting how much of void link up with concepts in Taoism and Buddhism, especially since Hussie didn't even try to do that. or maybe he did and we simply missed it. Here's a little tidbit of the role of Void in SKRUB. besides a lot of what you just mentioned, it also plays an integral role in the creation of other timelines, or rather the lack of relation. I decided that the whole "infinite world's" interpretation of timelines in homestuck is both not manageable in a tabletop setting and really lowers the importance of players actions since there is always another one of them that did something different. So in SKRUB there starts with only one timeline, and the actions of the time player going back and changing the course of events, especially what choices players made. but it can't just be anything, like let's say eating one side of an ice-cream come first over another, because that change wouldn't have any effect of the story (even if causality wise it would change the entire universe). man, I thought to myself, if only there was some measurement inherent to the universe that determines whether things are important or not. And thus some of the most important functions of the aspects Light and Void were born. timelines are only created when something that currently has Light shining upon it is changed, anything in the dark has no effect on the Canon of events. the creation of Legendary Weapons, The Choice, player Death and Revival are all inherently in the light, whereas mundane objects and meaningless choices all are in the dark. let's take the truest mundane object, the Perfectly Generic Cube. should Roxy have been sent back in time, she could have made 5 more or 10,000,000 more PGCs, and time wouldn't be considered altered. and that shows what her, and voids players potential is. their actions "don't matter" to the timeline, thus they could do whatever they pleased. and Roxy, the Rogue of Void, one who steals from unimportance, can take anything she likes from things that don't matter. thus the infinite Perfectly Generic Objects, and thus the Matriorb. because how much did the matriorb being brought back effect the story? Nothing. Nada. Zilch. a Rogue can't effect whether or not their aspect is present, they can only take things from their aspect. if she was a Thief, she could have stolen the void from the Matriorb, making it important again. Thus is the power of Heroes of Void. so if you guys liked this, well I tried to accurately recreate homestuck with SKRUB while also making a playable game, come talk to me on the tumblr blog skrub-ttrpg, or comment in this thread on a better place to discuss. If not, well at least you heard an interesting interpretation.

Everything in the Equius section blew my mind. (In part because I had trouble understanding the Vine claymation segments, so having it spelled out helped me a lot.) Will the shocking-revelations-about-Homestuck pile ever stop getting taller? I personally would switch complementary pairings to be such: Doom/Mind (based on your earlier comments on their ability to perceive or affect doomed and alpha timelines), and Life/Heart (physical, temporal, external self vs. metaphysical, everlasting*, internal self). Life... things have a built-in extinction down to a microscopic level, bodies in a state of decay and regrowth, and outside God Tiers and other majyyk-touched entities all biological things die - whereas Heart things (personhood, memories, every razor-thin slice of experience or behavior making up a thinking being, I guess?) have an infinite inertia to persist in dream bubbles*, even from doomed timelines. *until outlier Lord English starts decimating ghosts, that is.

Something you might find interesting: The "empty" color John references, as well as the house he sticks his hand through, is actually transparent - that "empty" color. And while we're thinking about aspects, I realized that the only three aspects not confirmed to enter the new universe is mind, rage, and doom. It can be assumed that Terezi makes it in, and it is implied that Gamzee does too, but it seems unlikely that Sollux, a Doom player, made it in. Do you feel that this is problematic to aspect-related theories, to have only 11 aspects represented in the new universe?

Well, those particular aspect parings do have a Lot of Evidence, but you're wrong when you say "no other theorizer has done them before". Ever heard of bladekindeyewear, and every other tumblr theorizer who ever heard of him and didn't completely hate him? True, some of his theories are a bit out there, but those aspect pairings are The Best aspect pairings

@Tex Talks I think a lot like you and in many ways your analysis has put into words things I hadn't quite been able to formulate myself. Thought processes are a hard thing to trace back, and I really like the idea of void as a sort of superposition of all aspects to create the nothing that is the background of universes, honestly, void has always seemed like the most interesting aspect to me and one I relate to for some reason. Homestuck is quite something. Almost feel like it can't have been made up.

I'm thinking white is void because it's the color of a blank paint canvas. But also transparency and therefore the bg color of the website. And Arquius went outside of the panels in that fighting flash, so I'd say anything outside the panels is void too.

In a way, i get the feeling that Mind and Rage are actually somewhat opposites... One is the clarity of pure logic and forethought, the other is a clouding or obscuration thereof by pure emotion.

Hey... So, Tex here, he says he relates to Void the most, right? Well, in this video, at the complementary Aspects part, where he says the pairs of aspects, and the color wheel. Anyway, he says he can't find any flaw in his reasoning, but he also can't even find his reasoning in the first place. Void describes Lack, nothing, and OBVUSCATION. This supports my theory that the aspects are real. ^^

I feel like, along with obfuscation, nonexistence and unimportance are a HUGE part of Void. Uselessness, submission and restraint all seem to fit in with the idea of nonexistance and unimportance (and/or modesty) in a way, and saying it this way makes Void seem like less of a negative aspect, because if it's a building block of the universe, I don't feel like it should seem good or bad (except maybe Hope and Doom). I feel like it fits the Void characters well, too. And it fits the word "void", too. As for Void's pair, Life and Mind also could potentially make sense. Life makes more sense than Mind, though. And honestly, I feel as though Life and Void could very well be a pair. The importance, existence/life, and relevance of Life (Light also could fit these, but I feel as though it really doesn't fit as well as Life being these) against the unimportance/modesty and nonexistence/obfuscation of Void. Life is the most complex thing; Void is the simplest. I could go on. As for your color theory, firstly, none of the other pairs (unless you assume Hope and Rage are a pair, which I don't) show this. Secondly, Breath and Light are actually just about as much of a color pair, if not more, AND there's the God Tier outfits' shoes. Of course, this only applies to Time/Space and Breath/Light. That I've seen. But It's still a possible reason. My PERSONAL aspect pairs are: Breath and Light (Freedom and Instinct vs Information, Fortune, and Planning Ahead) Time and Space (Obvious?) Mind and Heart (Left-Brain vs Right Brain, Logic and Thought vs Emotions and True Self) Life and Void (Importance, Relevance, and "Staying in the Limelight" vs Unimportance, Nonexistence, and "staying in the shadows") Hope and Doom (Optimism, Positive Belief, and Purity vs Pessimism, Negative Belief, and Corruption/Differences) Blood and Rage (Unity, Working Together, and Bonds vs Isolation, Pride, and "Me Power") I may be wrong, but I feel like it's a possibility. That's just my two cents. Amazing analysis btw, it really was good and you brought up lots of good points. (EDIT: I really don't put too much effort into pairings, since really, they aren't important, as you said. Who cares if Oxygen is the opposite of Nitrogen or Helium is the opposite of Hydrogen? NOBODY, and we don't even need to find pairs in the Periodic Table. Plus, forcing aspects into pairs can make it hard to pick up on clues that you'd otherwise see.)

Void's a great aspect. I've always been more intrigued with Equius than Vriska, partially because when somebody takes more effort to notice, I put a lot of effort into noticing them, and thus I've always been more preoccupied with the sort of nonsense that void players get into rather than that of Light players. Can't wait till your next part.

you would think that hope and doom would be opposite but then i cant think of an opposite for rage and life because they don't seem to go together. hope and doom also makes sense in the fact that Eridan and Sollux are hope and doom players respectively and they hate each other, maybe their aspects being opposite is apart of that.

When I'm a page of void and this video helped me progress "a lot" (a lot is relative to how much progress i make in other circumstances, not how much progress I have until im at my full potential, namely because I'll never reach my "full potential") When being a page of void sets me up to be similar to Horrus. When this makes me sad.

I recall my little attempt(s) at trying to pair the aspects up in more ways than one. They've basically been grouped by so many different ways that I can't really separate the complementary pairs from one another any more. By this point, I've begun to believe that the complementary pairs just defines the Positive-Negative, while the other ways of pairing group them into other thematical similarities and differences. To me, Heart (my aspect, as a Seer of Heart!) is linked more with negative aspects for some reason - but also, I kind of feel that there's a primary aspect and a secondary aspect. Basically, Primary is the one that defines a person most, and defines their personality - for me, it's clearly Heart. Then, Secondary refers to the leaning that the way they use and see the Primary, or basically their idea of what it is. So a Heart-doom player prefers the idea of red string of fate, while Heart-Blood might focus on the emotions for platonic relationships. That's what I personally think. (By that account, Karkat would be a Blood-Heart since he's so brilliant at relationships between people, and can tell when people has those emotions.)
