Great job with the videos! I'm looking forward to more! I do have one small correction for this one though- At 2:11 you said that only the first prototype affects the game, and the second one is just redundant. This isn't quite accurate- It's not about whether or not it's the first or second prototyping, but rather if the prototyping takes place before or after entering the game. Prototypes before entering affect the game, while prototypes after do not. Case in point- Rose prototyped hers twice before entering, first with a squid mannequin, and then with her cat. Both prototypes affected the enemies of their game.

"This is what an angel looks like in Comic Sans" might just be the best way to describe Davepeta and I hate myself for not being the one to pen that revelation.

I wonder if the players of Sburb hear the Homestuck OST as they play the game....

This makes me wonder about Calsprite: the puppet that is eventually revealed to contain AR's "Soul", Equius' Soul, Caliborn's Soul, and half of Gamzee's Soul. It was suddenly granted infathomable knowledge beyond what it already had as both a highly advanced AI, A former Sprite, Someone who had bullied tons of knowledge from the literal creator of the comic('s in-comic avatar), and half the troll who gained a similar amount of knowledge from one of the culminations of these four souls being merged into one "Strikingly Handsome Being". *All it ever did was laugh, and I think I understand why now.*

Fefetasprite was still the perfect sprite i don't think i'll ever get over her Great video! they're definitely a fun watch for someone who used to be suuuper into homestuck and its lore back int he day, it's like a trip down memory lane :)

I would prototype my old copy of spyro. It would count as dead since the spyro franchise is dead. Also , I have a theory about how prototyping a poster or video games works. If you don't have an emotional connection to the character, it can only say voice lines from the movie/game. But if you do have an emotional connection and see them as a real person, they will act and talk like you imagine them to. If it's a video game, I could imagine something even cooler. What if they have memories specifically from YOUR playthrough of the game? For example, my spyrosprite would remember everytime I rammed his head into a wall. It would be like meeting an old friend you could never properly communicate with before. Just a theory.

Why is it that when John hi-fives harlequinn sprite, it dosen't use him as the second prototyping? We see later on that Davesprite and Nepetasprite prototype just by shaking hands, so wouldn't it make sense for John to be prototyped as well?

Holy Shit! you just helped me with a little writer's block. So, I've been constructing a comic in my head, (I'm a little to young to actually write) which will eventually have a Sburb Arc & I've been having trouble coming up with prototypings. But, I've got these Aspect magnet Juju's that would be a perfect way to make Shit get real for the heroes! all of this spurred on by what you think a Kernlesprite prefers, thanks dude!

god damn this is such a good mechanic imagine the sprite combos possible with a dream self, that would all manifest in a god tier later.

3:50 actually hussie confirmed in the printed version that the beta kids session was the ONLY sesion that hapenned. all the others were killed by meteors before entering the medium. all meteors to destroy earth from the beta kidsa session. which makes sense cause the meteors were the from the session that birthed its players in the first place. imagine if every kid to play sburb came to earth on a meteor? it also one of the reasons the cherubs session was doomed from the start: they had biological parents. so yeah only one session per planet.

Good video, but your point about the alternate spriteselves usually being more confident and self-satisfied doesn't seem right to me. It does apply to some of them, but it's hardly universal. For instance, you mentioned Davepetasprite^2 as an example, but Davesprite himself was very unhappy. He wasn't good at romance or a more confident version of Dave, he was depressed and struck out big time with Jade. There's also Jadesprite. She spent her entire existence as far as we know in tears. Are there any others I'm forgetting?

Great video! Also that quote was insightful and hilarious! I'm really interested in what you have said so far and in what have yet to say about Homestuck. I wished there were more videos like yours. The comic really deserves more in-depth analyses.

Now that I think about it since the universes are living beings in Homestuck it is very likely that the incentives and freebies it throws at players are adaptations to help ensure that they can reproduce. Think about it Sburb is allow about helping Universes trying to procreate so it would make sense that the player would be unknowingly compelled to help these Universe reproduce

I'm enjoying the series so far as someone completely unfamiliar with the subject matter, but I have to say that unfortunately the inclusion of 'Nannaquin' as the background music was very distracting in both volume and tone of the discussion. It made that portion of the video harder to follow. Might just be me, but that's my experience.

You see, the thing about squared sprites is not that I don't understand the concept behind them so much as the concept itself infuriates me. The entire idea that an entire act's worth of buildup and character development can be resolved by a mere ill-advised handshake just sends me into a burning rage. I'm not saying the idea isn't conceptually sound, because it very much is. The problem arises from its execution. I think this is just a fundamental problem with A6A6I5 as a whole. The entire thing just seems rushed. I think this is why Vriskagram is so widely regarded as the worst flash by far. It packs as much character development and arcs as it can into a tiny 3 minute flash and even goes out of its way to tear down previous character development, and when you watch it it feels like you were just slapped in the face. "Remember all of those things that happened to characters that you cared about? Yeah fuck that, here's DaveKat." Here's the thing about DaveKat, I don't think it was a bad idea. It was actually a very good idea, but it was the way it just ignored everything prior to it that irks me to no end. Up until that point DaveJade had gotten a lot of attention and it seemed like there was real romantic tension between Dave and Jade that was left unresolved. But nevertheless, I don't think DaveKat was a bad idea, but it should've been more of an exploratory thing between them. I think DaveKat would've gone over a lot better if didn't last. Like it was just them coming to terms with some things, and then they would move on because they have other obligations and their relationship didn't go that deep. But instead it was held atop a pedestal as a pinnacle of LGBT representation and a perfect relationship. I don't think I'm the first to say DaveKat wasn't handled well. Anyway, all of this ties into something Hussie tried implementing around the time A6A6I5 began. "Human beings don't have arcs." This. Is. Bullshit. Real people don't have arcs, but characters do. these are not real people, and they do not exist in anything other than a webcomic. Regardless of how much Hussie wants Homestuck to be greater than most works of fiction, he can't just break the rules and expect there to be no backlash. Oh really the characters don't have arcs? Then why the fuck should I care about the characters? Like up until this point Hussie never breaks the rules. Only bends them. But now he outright says fuck you to making compelling characters and instead just decides to write whatever he wants because nothing matters anymore. One could make the assumption he was just sick of the whole thing. And you know what. I don't blame him. Holy shit sorry I went on a tangent here. I just felt like I had to say something. Nevertheless, great video man! I look forward to seeing more of your analysis videos!

This may have been answered in the actual comic, but it’s been years since I’ve read the thing so I can’t remember if it’s been touched on. What happens if you, without any timeline doubles or dream corpse fuckery, prototype yourself? Do you just turbo fuck the session you’re in by being effectively down a player, since you’ve decided to become a quasi-omnipotent entity with vague limitations on how much you can directly impact the outcome of the game? I suppose that’s what Jade did, I think. It’s hard to keep everything straight with so much time between reading and now. Shit, it’s tough to keep straight even in the moment.

These videos make me want to play Sburb even more so, I already wanted to play it but fuck, now I want to play the ultimate video game

I’ve always wanted to know if you can prototype a denizen and what would happen as a result. We know that it is possible to reach your denizen the moment you enter your session and since your sprite still has one prototyping left before it is finished, it is theoretically possible to reach your denizen and make them touch the sprite (as long as it didn’t bump into something along the way).
