This is the second part of my Volca Sample Tutorial video series. In this part I explore the different facilities for tweaking the sound of each sample. Unfortunately, it is a very long video, and there are a number of small issues with it: namely, the audio is inverted, which is bad when demonstrating the PAN parameter. I hope the table of contents above will help you go to the information you need.

Thanks for using the worst sample. I enjoyed the torture :)

DO NG I think actually on education purposes its a great sample, because you can much more easily tell the difference of what happens to the sound. (Slows down, cuts of earlier.etc)

Thank you so much Philip!!! I just bought my volka sample and i didn't knew all the things i can do without your videos! The granular synthesis FUCKING COOL!!!!

Thanks for watching, +Osvaldinho Saldanha ! :D I'm actually preparing a mini-series of videos devoted to Granular synthesis on the Sample for my Volca TNT series... They'll provably come out in January, as I finish the synth percussion kit I'm doing with the Volca Keys. Stay tuned! ;)

Thanks. I learned something new with the looping and then you blew me away with the granular synthesis tip. Very cool.

I did find that the link to the website where samples can be uploaded is not working any longer. Is there an alternate way to upload samples using a PC/MAC?
@Philipplus
@Philipplus 7 лет назад
Hi David! From time to time that website is down (I'm not related to it, so I cannot imagine why). I've been using either Caustic for windows (I don't know if there is a MAC version, but it can run on linux using wine, so I'm guessing Mac's can run the windows binary using some form of emulation), or the example scripts supplied with the API for sample upload (not the easiest route). Voysyr (www.frederikson-labs.com/) has been very well regarded in the Volca Community and runs on windows and mac (not so much on linux with wine). I hope this helps. Cheers

Thanks for the link. Much appreciated. Are you planning similar tutorials for the Volca FM by any chance? Thanks
@Philipplus

I'll do some tutorials on FM synthesis at some point in the near future (after I'm done with the SQ-1 series). I'm still not sure how much I'll focus on the volca FM. On one hand, there are already quite a few tutorials and demos (check those by Marc Doty/AutomaticGainsay). Also, the most Volca-specific things concern the Sequencer which is a slightly improved version of the sequencer on the Keys. On the other hand, FM synthsis is one of my favourite subjects, but programming the Volca FM using the front panel is a pain (and it takes too long for a tutorial video),so I'll probably use some software that can save patches in DX7 format and go from there... but these are just some ideas for now. ;) Cheers.

Thank you for this vid bro I was racking my head wondering why I couldn't get reverb loool yiu just answered my question lol bro do u know if I put own samples will factory samples be backed up by caustic app???
@Philipplus
@Philipplus 6 лет назад
You're welcome, Andrew! As for backing up the samples already on the Volca, the communication is one way only: the data goes from the phone to the volca, so there is no chance of backup. But Caustic has the option to upload the original samples (or you can download the encoded data from korg). I hope this helps. Cheers!

+zibbybone Thank you for watching. Yeah, the autofocous is extremely annoying. Only manage to solve it about a month ago by upgrading the camera to one that does not turn autofocous on every time it boots. Cheers! :)

just a quick question.... If say you have a sample of your own and you pitch it up first before you upload it onto Sample and then pitch it down in sample would it save the memory as it would be shorter in length and size (MB) because of the shift?
@mrfeenix1
@mrfeenix1 8 лет назад
P.S Thank you for spending your time doing these got mine yesterday so a long road ahead... found your vid's !! Nice one!!
@Philipplus
@Philipplus 8 лет назад
Hi Mr Feenix! Thank you for watching and commenting. There are quite a few vieos on youtube showing that trick: you double or quadruple your sample speed in your DAW, then you upload it to the Volca Sample and play it -12 or -24 semitones bellow in pitch. The audio distortion is minimal, although I don't use the Volca Sample for playing loops, as I have an SU-10 which is better suited for that purpose. but, yes, it is a viable way of putting more audio length into the 4MB memory limit. :) Cheers!

Hi! That is a good suggestion! Stay tuned for the next couple of months: I'm preparing three new episodes about the Volca Sample (mainly updating some info I gave in this series), and also the SQ-1. ;) Thanks for stopping by. Cheers!

Thanks for this great video! Just got a Volca and I'm having a lot of fun with it. This might be a silly question, but is there a way to set the loop to infinite? Would be helpful to me in sampling full beats and playing with samples around those infinite beat-loops!
@Philipplus
@Philipplus 7 лет назад
Hi Cassey! Thanks for watching.The loops are infinite, the problem is that the Amp control envelope is only an Attack-Decay affair (i.e. no sustain). So when you trigger a sample, the volume is decreased by the decay phase right after the attack. The maximum decay is about 9-12s, which is enough for the short samples this machines were design to handle. Because of this, you cannot have the sample in continuous loop, unless you use the sequencer to re-trigger them. I think the electribes suffer from the same problem, but the KP3+ has some basic sampling and looping features that allow you to play a loop continuously. I hope this helps. Cheers!

+NeoLudditevisons The Volca Sample is going to keep me busy for the next month or so, and I'm more keen on publishing some stuff on the MicroKorg and/or the other Volcas... Despite that, the E2 does appeal to me, and it on my short list. :)

Can the volca sample play a sound chromatically
@mikeexits
@mikeexits 5 лет назад
If you could specify exactly what you mean, maybe I could help. Do you mean like he does at the end? You can change the pitch in semitones by holding the function button while adjusting the "speed" knob.
@pongtrometer
@pongtrometer 5 лет назад
Mikeureko I mean play each sound through a scale, not pitch a few parts to get polyphony from multi samples...but play actually play each part as an instrument.
