I'm an American (sorry I can't read German). I think this is the best (most accurate & concise) explanation of American foreign policy I've heard in this kind of media/form. A great book to read is "KILLING HOPE" by William Blum.

BTW actually he is not an anti-american. it's just part of his political view and his show is not comedy but the art is called 'Kabarett' (wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabarett) in german. so not everything he says must be taken seriously. he wants to criticize the us since it is the worlds most important country and has great responsibility for the worlds future. but some things they did wrong. eventually not by intention but they did.

As an American female, I have never known what it's like to be forced to wear clothing that covers me completely. I have never been told I can't do something. I will never have to have a male family member give me permission to leave my house. Say what you will about America,and know that every other government on the planet has corruption.I will never know the terror of being 9 years old and being married off to a man over the age of 50. I count my freedoms and are thankful for them every single day. America isn't the best, but it's better than some other places, that's for sure.

To be fair, I don't think I'd be clapping. Mostly because I'd spend my time writing this down because there's so much truth in every sentence here!

Well, many of the other videos are more directed at the german population and deal with problems in germany's society. Some of them would be difficult to understand without some knowledge of the problems or knowledge about the political situation and the politicians involved. So this video is quite interesting for all the nations (which is why it was translated, I guess) while the others would not be too interesting for someone who does not live in germany or know of the problems.

Wow. I've heard about a lot of these foreign policy fuck-ups in the past so I think the best part of this is that this constitutes a stand-up comedy routine in Germany. American's would never have the attention span for such thoughtful humor.

Well, often, complex topics need to be explained in a simple and understandable way to other people who are not experts in the field. This must be done in such a way that this group of recipients understands the message not only at this moment, but also in a few weeks and months to come. This is the fine art of communication. Being able to convey complex issues concisely, briefly and clearly is one of the most important communication skills, especially in a professional (politically oriented cabaret) environment. How do you manage the balancing act between short and precise? Well, it seems that Pispers in his role as political cabaretist is capable to manage to do that... Okay, but who - finally and in the very end - "owns", "defines" and is aware of the 100%? I guess - nobody. But this Pispers` program might be a good initiative to at least start thinking about it...

Looking at the comments. Why are Americans not able to a) laugh about themselves and b) be tiny little bit self-cirtical. They would appear more likable. Beeig self-critical is the smart form of patriotism.

Volker Pispers (pronounced "Folkah Pisspairs" ^^) is here in germany a legend of political satire. He is hard & sharp, and typical funny like the most people of Cologne (carneval city). I am very very astonished, how many people like him outside of germany, specially 1. africans, 2. anglos, mostly out of the Usa! This rises the question - isn't selfironic Us-Satire not the sharp as such? Please name some US comedians in a similar style to Volker. By the way, there are more black humour political satire personalities here, and a program called "Die heute-show" (the today show), also funny. Specially heute-show loves to make wits over the british political sortiment and decisions.. ;)

@larrythedolphin yeah ww2 is part of the history lessons... the general conditions of the US-foreign policy didn't change for decades. for sure, policy is not that simple as it seems but Bushs policy was definitely the climax of idiocy.. p.s. the primary parties which teared the wall were gorbatschow, the people of gdr and some members of the gdr governement, who disclaim the use of weapons and open the border in the critical night 1989. US role had more influence on the reunion later...

Well...I'm sorry, but no. The wall didn't fell down because of Reagon. It fell down, because the people in the GDR actually managed to organize a peaceful revolution. The Government was under enormous pressure, so they had to do something (it didn't help that they were already collapsing for a number of reasons, foremost economical ones). he day the Wall fell, a new law was proclaimed, that ev'ryone in the East was allowed to travel to the West. The One who said that, mistakingly stated...

@larrythedolphin i am german and i want give you some informations. the wall wasn't planned by germans, but by the sovjets. every german hated the wall. during the whole time after WWII there were massdemostrations against it. about volker pispers: he's cabaret artist. it is his job, to insult politicians, he don't care about the nation. i think, you will think in other ways, if you would know, how often he criticizes german politicians.

Striking for better detainment conditions (which they even had!!) and calling the police officers pigs and the prison a "pig system". @yottky The Vietnam war was a proxy war between the US and the SU, CHina. Although the Korean War obviously was right, since potherwise SKorean nowadays would live in the same COMMUNISTIC CONCENTRATION CAMP like NKoreans have to; I somehow condemn the Vietnam war, not at last for the obvious war crimes although committed by the US. Where was/is the outcry of the left though about the SU and CHIna participation in this ar, as in many other wars likewise?

After the first indochina war, the Geneva Accord guaranteed the Vietnamese people the right to elect their own leader which everyone knew the pro-communist leader HoChiMinh'd have won the election. In vew of this, the Americans DENIED the Vietnamese the right of election and supported a dictators in the South.

You decide who will be allowed to lead these countries? After all the failures of U.S. interventions in the last 65 years it might be a good idea to change the strategy: First think, than act! And try to accept other peoples decisions in elections in foreign countries! We had to survive decades of the Bush & Reagan administration.

I guess most people don't like laughing about themselves, when it's somebody from a different country poking fun (like when I say David Hasselhoff and bratwursts are the only combination worth having to my German friends ha). I live in Germany, have lived here over 2 years. Jon Stewar't' is funny, and is very self-critical of the U.S. The web isn't the best place to get experiences, no face to face interaction = not accurate.

@countertreason I think you overestimate Pispers and really don't take into account what we Germans have learned from our dark past. You might see it as poison, but dangerous and spreading? Here in Germany? I honestly don't think so. I am certainly not anti-American, but my historical guilt, which I take very seriously forces me to believe that war is never a good option. I agree with honigdachsfan, if you spoke German you would see most of the people here do.
