I own this car. Best decision ever. I got it new and all extras with it. I can recommend this car for sure. I will buy the Golf 8 R facelift next. But i will also keep the Polo GTI. What a great car.
can I ask about the interior quality? any squeaky platic or noises? and how is the driving comfort, any similarities to Golf GTI mk7 or harsher? thanks P.S. mileage is astonishing, if it's true of course... 6,9l/100 km it's like a diesel ;D
@@rg6259 the interior quality is absolutely ok and good for an Polo I would say. No noises so far at 30.000 km. The driving comfort is pretty comfy but when you drive on sport mode, you feel almost everything on the street xD. I personally drive most time in individual mode. Got all options in sport but the suspension in comfort mode. I can’t tell any differences to the golf 7 because I didn’t drive it. I joined into vw with the Polo 6 gti Facelift. You can drive the Polo gti with 6,0 l / 100km normally. The best what I got was 4,6 l but that was an extreme test of mine. It’s possible. When you drive sporty you can reach 8-12l for sure.
Hi! I recently bought a Polo GTI 2023 and the only complaint I have about this car is related to its stiff suspension. Is it possible to adjust it from the menu? I have no user manual. Pls help.
I remember rushing out to buy a pre facelift one as I knew they’d be getting rid of the physical buttons. I crossed shopped it with the Golf GTI and was quite surprised to find that I enjoyed the Polo more than the Golf on the test drive. It quickly became a no brainer to go with the top spec Polo GTI over the base Golf GTI and save the 10k+.
Great car! Been my daily driver for last 6 months. Proper hot hatch size & handling with entertaining personality. Not N extreme but doesn’t need to be. Love the heritage GTI touches too especially the tartan. Great review too!
I own a 2019 Polo GTI. the main appeal for me was that it was wayyy cheaper to insure vs the golf GTI (since i live in the UK and I'm only 20 years old). given that its the exact same engine and a few thousand pounds cheaper than the golf GTI it was an easy decision. saved myself nearly £6000 in total when you account for the initial cost and the insurance each year. and with only a stage 1 tune it's actually quicker than the golf! this 2024 polo looks great and i love the new design (apart from the haptic controls ofc) and I would defo recommend this over a golf especially if you are a young driver or if your finding it hard to justify the higher price of the golf.
@@qwazxwas true. The point is for someone to say it’s “40k” is simply not true. Yes the model test driven had both option packs added, however the “40k” price is a completely false.
Just got mine last week. Very happy with it despite destroying the front left tyre after hitting a pothole in Sydney only after five days of driving! My biggest gripe so far? The lack of an electronic or PDF version of the manual. Just can't be done in Australia apparently although in the US and UK and I assume Europe you can enter your VIN and on those country's websites and download it.Grrrr
The reversing camera only works part time as it's a Euro product Matt, and this is from a previous Golf owner but never again. Always enjoy your reviews as you give info that prospective owners actually need but remember, nothing beats ownership.
Some years ago I owned a Polo as a commuter car, it was fabulous. The current GT looks great fun to drive, comfortable and fast. I could live with it comfortably (but won’t) and think it’s likely a better buy than the Golf GT. The car seems well engineered and I like VW/Skoda DSG gearboxes. A great review of an interesting car, fuel economy for what it is, is pretty good. I agree with your verdict. I’d buy the Polo.
@@simonr23 Thanks, but that’s of no concern to me, I’m not proposing to buy one. My comments simply relate to the review, the pleasure of driving, and my own past experience with a Polo.
I have got the Polo life 95cv. I must say that it’s a great car, and the dsg is super smart. Unfortunately mine has only the 3cylinder engine, but still when pushing it it give a devent response. Feels better quality than it is. Purchased second hand with only 30k km for 20k. Still with constructor warranty. However in Italy Europe rhose are way cheaper
Totally agree! A proper 'Q' car. Perfect for today's roads and driving.[UK perspective.] Beautifully built and subtle design. And save so much money against the bigger Golf GTi. Again in UK the other option was the Ford Fiesta ST. Sadly now gone. For me the Polo GTi would be No1 on my wish list. Great, balanced review. [Subscribed!]
Matt, thank you you for review. I like the work you doing but you missed a couple of important points. This is GTI, right? - How does paddle shifters work? (they are crap actually) - Engine/breaks are they up to GTI level? "Punchy" is not good enough
Thanks. I take your points but I’m not a performance car reviewer. I focus on daily liveability. And remember, GTI isn’t the halo it once was. I found the be to paddles to be fine, but the DSG is smarter than any human, so leave it to do its own job. Engine and brakes are up to Polo GTI levels. It goes fast and stops fast too. I found the brakes confident and bitey.
Hey thanks for all the reviews, love your work! I’m currently in the market for a new car. It’s a second car, we have 4 kids and a Kia carnival for most stuff. Was thinking about this or the Kia cerato gt, or Mazda 3 Astina. I am leaning more cerato gt just cause it’s a bit cheaper. I’ve driven them all and like them all, actually found cerato the most fun but it’s a super firm ride. Do you think it is stupid to go for that with the K4 gt line coming very soon. I assume that will mean the resale value of the cerato gt will fall off a cliff.
Thanks for that! I'd say the Cerato GT values won't fall off a cliff, there's a strong 'in the know' fanbase for them. The GT-Line model of the K4 won't be nearly as sporty, in theory. The Cerato GT is a corker. Do it! I would. :D
Another informative test covering off most points (except brakes!!!). I was particularly interested in this one because my Golf 7.5 R-Line is due for replacement in 12 mths. Both my current and previous Mk 7 Golfs have had DSG problems and VW is very meh about it all - to the point that I know I should leave the VW fold. But they just do everything so damn well and the safety systems are so beautifully judged and actually assist rather than attempt to cause their own accident. It was noteworthy that you didn't mention their functionality because you shouldn't have to - they should just be there assisting unnoticed in the background. So despite my reservations, I'll probably get another VW, The Golf 8 is already starting to get silly-expensive and I can't see the 8.5 reversing that so a Polo GTi it will probably be. I just hope that the MY25 model ditches those capacitive switches on the wheel...
I did have a line about brakes in the video but cut it out. Sorry! They’re reassuring and bitey. Very confident. Yep, the tuning and implementation of the current gen VW safety tech is great. Future models will be annoying (see my ID EV reviews).
The brakes are fantastic I own a 23 model which is the same car as this. I just test drove a 90k bmw230i with 190kw and bigger brakes but the little Polo gti brakes are firm and super direct they make the bmw brakes feel really poor.
I owned a fully optioned 2019 Polo GTI a few years ago and paid $33k used. Had it tuned to stage 1 with APR. 190kw, was a weapon! Very fun! Was never a fan of the cheap feeling interior or the suspension. But was a very fun car. Currently own a 2016 Skoda Superb 162tsi and loving it
Had mine for just over two years. Really nice car but has just gone back to VW with an electrical problem, they’ve had it now for over a week now and think it will be fixed in a few days. My Friend also bought a transporter about five months ago and that broke down a couple of weeks ago with an electrical fault as well. Is there some sort of problem with VW’s at the moment?
The GTI whether polo or golf is a premium offering. In Soth Africa though its such a risk owning these because of hijacks and the insurance cost i would rather walk away and get the i30 N or fiesta ST and the like. still fun but much lower risk
Wouldn’t consider one, no manual gearbox, no knobs or buttons to easily control most used features. Haptic sliders will soon be a thing of the past, when manufacturers realise owners don’t like how difficult they are to accurately use and bring back knobs and buttons they will really date the car!
@@therightcarOnly on the steering wheel spokes. MiB3 and new MiB4 infotainment screens are full touch/haptic. Now if your car is still MK7.5 spec, the 8” inch MiB3 Discover Pro screen has 2 physical knobs for power/volume and tuning/selection. But knobs are mostly gone from VWs and this includes the Air Con HVAC control panels in most models.
I'm curious. Between the Polo GTI and the Cupra Leon V, which would you prefer. I know one is a sub small and the other is a small car but with an almost the same drive-away price and almost identical power and torque output. Maybe worth condsidering it as well if you need something a little bigger than a Polo?
@@garyk8285 a decent get around town kind of bike. If you get something truely performance orientated, you might find the car has less appeal comparatively. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Riding the 2024 Street Triple RS and there's not a car in the world I'd trade it for.
@@DWDW-t3h I almost bought one Polo (not GTI) for my wife 7 years ago but I heard so many complains about minor but annoying problems with Polo. I found out then we got them from South Africa (Uitenhage) and the the VW support in AU was terrible to sort them out. They are also made in Malaysia (Pekan) and I heard those have no such problems. So I hoped AU distributor maybe decided nowadays to get them from Malaysia for us especially as Malaysia has also left side driving roads... The best ones are made in Spain (Pamplona) but we will never get those. So we are stuck with SA models?
The Polo is also built in Brazil for Latin America markets. Their lowest trim level there is the Track and their highest is the GTS (They don’t get this GTI version).
I like this, it's nice, though a VW is not something I'd buy. The i20n is more performance oriented, so I'll keep mine😊. I will test drive the Swift though, when I can bear to bid farewell to my N😢😊
