(Early apologies for the video quality, I had a weird setting turned on during the recording, and I only realized it after editing the whole thing)

Want cool ideas for d&d, insteresting dnd character concepts, cool lore and worldbuilding ideas for you to populate your homebrew campaign? In this series of videos, I share several interesting concepts, original ideas, interesting locations, good characters and others from my homebrewed setting of Arcadia.
These videos serve a dual purpose: give you ideas to inspire your D&D campaigns, but also share some lore with new players that are about to join my table and want to immerse themselves in the lore before starting to play.
In this video I bring you Volsur, a devil who absorbed Tiamat, ascended to godhood and usurped Asmodeus' throne as ruler of the Hells in my setting. He was born out of a player character's backstory, and is the perfect example of why taking input from your players can greatly enrich your world and your campaign. Like Brennan Lee Mulligan calls them, backstories are basically plot hooks the players are guaranteed to bite.
Next video on Arcadian lore: soon

I'm honestly planning on doing something similar with my setting. I'm currently building the baseline setting, but I am excited to see what my players do. 😂

It does give a lot of work, but the rewards are very satisfying, and it ends up feeling more real for everyone

@@TheFirstArcadianDnD Glad to hear it! I do have ideas where I _want_ the setting to go, but I'm not gonna force it if the players don't want it to go that direction. Plus, my ideas are vague enough to allow flexibility.

That's a great concept to run a setting! Do you sometimes bring in former players as guest stars for cameos as their old characters? Or are those characters now NPCs? If so, do the original players have a say in the actions of their former characters? Either way, it's an ideal tool to advance your setting. I once had my 7 player's consent to use their characters as NOCs in later campaigns, one of them played in my next campaign in this setting and might have done a cameo, but alas this campaign fizzled out before any of that could happen due to me moving for work related reasons. That Aasimar's story sounds great, too. Anyway, I'd like to hear more about your former PCs, related NPCs and how they changed the fates of Arcadia.

It depends, sometimes I take their characters as NPCs, asking for their input whenever possible, but whenever possible I like to feature them as guests. Never when their players are still at the table, though. However, if the characters are now big figures in the world advancing their own agenda off-screen, I try to keep asking the players what they would do, kinda like they are all playing a big game of chess indirectly
