Just wanted to say thank you for this fantastic simplified explanation John. You explain the symbology clearly and then show how to calculate each in a simplified manner. It took me a good hour searching to find this, but you have now shown me how I can simply find out the relevant values. Thank you for the time you put in and the clear explanation of the topic without over complicating it. I wish my maths teacher had been like this! ☺

Sir, I have been pulling out my hair for the last hour or two trying to figure out something that ought to be pretty simple, but for some reason I couldn't figure out. I knew there were two formulas, and that they were connected, but couldn't quite put it together. Then I found your video, and your very helpful links on the times. Your explanation at 18:18 solved my dilemma. Thanks!

Love your video, i seen this type off wall tons off times... I noticed you never put the triangle round, right away, that awsome because the more lines added the worst it is for my head to understand what I'm looking at... The less information fir my brain when explaining the better information gose in... Thus video where you used both triangle help me loads how they both work together! Any more like this be much appreciated

Excellent video, let me tell you why . You keep lofty theory in bite size installments. You also write it all down, this slows it down and thus, gives our mind enough time to assimilate the information . Instead of intimidating us with knowledge through a clouded window, you keep the transfer of the data clear .

Hi John, Thank you for your video. This is obviously for AC correct? Does this apply to DC? Example if you connect 6 x 6 volt 4 amp batteries together in a way that makes 36 volts at 4 amps. What is the resistance and the watts supplied? Regards Kurtis

This is late at night, and it's probably a dumb question but suppose I know the Power and Resistance, how do I go about finding the amps or volts?
@jwflame
@jwflame 7 лет назад
Amps is the square root of power/resistance, voltage is the square root of power x resistance. If you search for 'ohms law wheel' you will find a circular diagram which contains all of the combinations of power, voltage, resistance and current.

Let's say i have a older automotive relay that does not have an amp rating on it ,but i know it came out of a car with a 12 volt system. Are you saying i can check the resistance across pins 30 and 87 (pins 85 & 86 are the coil) That way i would have two of the values needed to find the amp rating?
@jwflame
@jwflame 4 года назад
The resistance of the contacts will be zero when closed, so calculation isn't possible. Rating of the contacts is down to how they are constructed such as how thick the metal is and various other factors. Not something that can be determined by their resistance.
@robertmccully2792
@robertmccully2792 4 года назад
@@jwflame Yes that make sense. there must be some way to check them. Been watching a lot of videos where new parts are bad. Made me start thinking about relays, how do know what we are really getting. Maybe trigger with a magnet then check resistance...Thanks.
