There are quite a few video reviews of this PSU. However, yours was, by far, the most through and informative. Please do not be worried about such long videos. They are much appreciated.

Nice review, thanks, much more detailed and informative than the other reviews I've seen on this power supply module. The short circuit peak current is always a bit of a concern if you are probing around in a circuit and accidentally shorts something it could easily cause permanent damage to the circuit even if you think the current is limited to e.g. 100mA. I think the peak current is probably a lot higher than 2.5A, but that's the max value you'll get with a 4 ohm resistor and 10V output. It could be interesting to see the same measurement with a smaller value shunt maybe 50-100mOhm or something. I did a similar measurement on a linear power supply, reading ~14A peak from just 330uF on the output, although it only lasted something like 500 uS.

Yes, I would imagine the current would be much higher with a lower resistance. In another video I'll take a look at one of my old HP linear power supplies to see what kind of figures we get from that.

Thanks! I purchased the Gopher supply after your initial review and soon after another one for serial/parallel connectivity. I use them much more than my 3x more expensive device as I hate fan noises during the evening.

Yup, the Gopher power supplies do the job just fine if you don't need the extra features that the RD6006 brings. I've been using the Gopher supplies ever since I started the channel 👍

Best firmware for 6000 series is on EEVblog. Google *UniSoft RuiDeng Riden RD6006 DC power supply* for forum. Below is the Change log. You can always return to stock firmware at anytime. In case of any problems while update, keep pressed [ENTER] while power on device, to run device in BOOT mode. RD60062_V1.32.x.bin - my custom firmware. Great in dept review as usual, thank you. I have many products from RuiDeng and I am happy with all of them. This PSU seems like no exception. For the price they are selling it for, I think it is a bargain. I agree with some negative points you mention, especially the rotary click being the "escape", maybe they will fix this with a further update. But, plugging the PSU to mains when it is in power on mode as default and keeping a load attached while doing this is a no-no by all means with any lab power supply. It is a good test to see what happens when you do this, but anyone with a sane mind would not do this. Same applies with connecting the load with a turned on PSU. Using this PSU with a linear DC source as you did is the best way to go, I would not connect a switch mode bench supply to another switch mode source even if the manufacturer recommends it. I have 2 DPS5015 PSU modules from RD working on my bench at the moment and both of them get their power feeds individually from 2 quality 36VAC 400W toroidal transformers. Output AC ripple averages around 70-80mV (some occasional 100mV peeks) at 24V DC 10A load, which is fine enough for my purposes.

Excellent video Florin! I have this PS as well and find it quite excellent for the $. The spike you see during the hard power-on may actually be your scope probe picking up the EMI from the transformer. I have the recommended switching PS in my unit, and I don't see this spike...

I have the rd6006p since today and I hear a faint high pitch sound when I turn on the voltage output. The sound becomes less when I increase the output voltage and from 35 volts the sound is gone. Do others have this too? Or is this a defect?

is the usb port isolated? the dps5015..5020 models had a sepperate usb-serial converter module which was isolated.

Someone said in the comments of part 1 video that there is an ADUM1201 in there but I wasn't able to confirm this so far, I would have to disassemble the two boards.

why would you EVER turn on the output by POWER switch rather than soft switch? why would you keep power delivered to the output on power on?

If you use a linear power supply a transformer bridge and large caps no fan noise at all.

If that is what Ruideng is using it for, I wish it hadn't a color display. My eyes hurt. It's an awesome device to charge escooter or ebike packs though, would by again. I hope there is a FOSS firmware available soon like with the Rudideng DP/DPS/DPH series before

Hi I am trying to use this riden rd6006 for mobile repair, and I found a short circuit in rail line that I want to inject 1.5V 2A in to what components short, but its keeping drop my volt all the way down to .5 or .6V which unusual for my case. Do you have any idea for that?

Sounds like you need to learn the difference between constant current and constant voltage operating modes. Your PSU is probably reaching the current limit and going into constant current mode.

good conclusion, I cant argue with your results. Just curious but do you have any suggestions for using an oscilloscope to measure a grounded power supply? There is always alot of noise when I am probing the output of my server power supplies. My current solution is to just measure the circuits ground with one channel and in the data export subtract my other channels by it. Any other suggestions?

A differential probe would help solve those issues. There are some relatively inexpensive options available from Micsig. I plan on getting a set and do a review in the upcoming months.

mine was a lot cheaper (from aliexpress not banggood) : rd6006 + S06A case : 67€ 60v - 400W PSU : 23€ total = 90 € (99 USD)
