This video used real firefighting footage as well as some staged action to create a short documentary of responding to emergency calls as a volunteer firefighter. 3 Doors Down song Kryptonite is used as background audio.
@TheNewKid1166 We do MORE than paid firefighters. In the city, you are assigned to engine, truck, etc. In the volunteer world, we do EVERYTHING. You could be an engine company one call and truck the next. There was a big storm in my area so we had a lot of calls for my department. I was engine, water rescue, truck, and EMS all in the matter of 5 hours.
this is a very good video. in nj were only allowed to run blue/blue or blue/white in the front and a loop hole was found that firefighters are allowed to run red/amber in the back only and the only audible device we can use other then the vehicle horn is an air horn or electronic air horn from a siren unit.
Junior Firefighters are allowed to go to fire scenes where I live. They can't get into dangerous situations such as entering the structure or anything like that but they can act as external firefighters or EMT Personnel.
I was on Prosser and Benton Co. 3 as a volunteer firefighter/EMT for over 15 year's. Volunteers go through the same training as a regular firefighter. I love you video,it brought back memory's, Went from Prosser/Benton Co.3 fire to Yakima Fire Dist. 5. for 12 year's and I enjoyed being a volunteer firefighter all those year's. Did you know Volunteer Firefighter make-up roughly 70% of all firefighter. And think about it. What is there was no volunteer firefighter? Just saying " Think About It "
@jay215ill (Continued) volunteers are the people who do everything, from going into houses to rescue people or pulling people out of cars or the Hudson River. What I am trying to say (if you cannot comprehend) is that you are wrong. You always will be. Volunteers are significant; they do just as much as paid firefighters.
🚨🚒🏆 🇺🇸👍 ((2018)) I live in a Large City Enviroment today. However, I Still Have Big Respect and Memories of these Public Service First Responders when I was a small town kid. -Thank you 👍🇺🇸
Good video. I am a Volunteer fire fighter but out here we can run blue lights and sirens. Im guesing yall are limited to a single green light in the dash? Ive gotta say becoming a vff is the best choice ive ever made. Nothing like pulling an all nighter hitting call after call. Then heading to work a 12 hour shift running off 2 hours of sleep between calls haha. Keep it up!
@bnsf11 Child labor laws don't restrict Junior Firefighters from responding to calls. They restrict them from entering dangerous situations such as enter the structure or something like that.
you guys and girls of the fire department are courageous, kind, outgoing, and most of all risking your own lives for your communities. Also most of my family was or still is in the fire department. So I keep thinking of joining when I'm 16 years old
I just wanted to say thanks to all are firefighters for being are heros and you all are amazing! I am starting my tranning soon to be a firefighter.keep up the amazing job and the hard work!Good bless you all.y yo ur always in my heart ♥
i joined my towns VFD at the age of 14, they provided everything and all my gear, i got my radio for calls after 6 months on im 15 now and ride my bike to calls when im not at school and when i am at school my principal approved me leaving during class for calls so i run across town to the fire hall. it is deffinatly one of the best things in my life and its a big step towards my dream of full time firefighting
I was a volunteer firefighter for 10 years. I loved it for the most part. There were a few things about the video that definitley wouldn't have worked where I was a firefighter, but maybe it does for that department. First, always back your personal vehicle into your driveway so you don't have to back out of it when you have a fire call, that saves about 10 seconds. Don't fumble around for your keys, etc. Have everything in the same place so you don't have to look for it. Good Video
I started out as a volunteer @ 16-25. Then when went full-time. The first 20 years were a blast. The last 9 officially suck. Can't wait to retire in one more year. My point is this, when I look back over my long career, my fondest memories are being a volunteer. The comradery and social dynamics were second to none. Good luck with your recruitment.
i just got accepted into a vol. fire dept in virginia, and your video is great!!!!!! i think volunnteers have more heart and passion for what they do, than the professionals. GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!
@esherlinski Never, ever, hold yourself higher than your brothers. They may receive pay, but most of them have the same fire in their hearts that burns for helping people. Paid or not, they are firefighters and brothers through fire.
Yes Its just volunteer. Most departments, (at least the ones from where I am in texas) Understand that you have to work and if your working when a call comes in its no big deal. You only respond when you can
I've been a volunteer for about a year and it was videos like this that got me interested and then my junior year i witnessed a fatal fire and that gave me the motivation to grow some balls. Keep doing what you do guys and good luck.
I was a volunteer firefighter from the time i could volunteer till the time i left for active duty military service now i'm just waiting for this contract to be up so i can go home go the guard and go back to doing what i love most fighting fires, training new guys, and helping people
you're looking at depending on the company you get it from is what the price will be. morning pride for instance can run you up to 6000 brand new and thats just pants and jacket. helmet is another 300-500 bucks depending of the quality and style and so forth. the boots again probably going to be a couple hundred and the gloves 20-70 bucks again because of style and stuff. your best bet is to go and ask around at some departments and see if you can buy some still good used stuff
After asking my uncle why he had red lights on his truck at age 5 I have been interested in firefighting. I watched this video about a year ago and I have been wanting to do it since. As soon as I get my truck I will be joining as a cadet at my local fire department. Thanks for posting!!
I watched this video roughly a year ago, before I became a VFF, still love watching it till this day, started my level 1 training last Wednesday, can't wait to get nice and toasty inside a structure haha!
The Full time ones do. The Volunteers don't. The Volunteers do, however, get reimbursed for the time that they missed work to put out the fire or respond to an emergency.
CI321 awesome it’s fun I’m a volunteer fire fighter for Hampton county South Carolina and I love it the bad thing about it is when it at 12:00am and your in a deep sleep
@geekandbrew In Oklahoma we cannot run any lights of any kind unfortuantely id like to have clear wig wags. Back to what i was saying i agree e flashers do help even in the day i run my headlights and e flashers.
I really like this video, But are there not that many POV's at your station, Or is it just that you couldnt run the lights on the road while pulling to the station, Looks to me like the same light on all the trucks!
For the past few years I have really been thinking about becoming a firefighter, whether it's volunteer or full time. The only thing I have never been able to understand about being a volunteer is, do volunteer firefighters have other jobs as well? I fell like I wouldn't be able to be a volunteer firefighter because I wouldn't be able to pay my bills if I am not getting paid.
@jjtrucks i found full gear that is coat, pants, boots, helmet, hood, and gloves all for around $1200. Cheapest i could find although i do not need the gear i was just wondering how cheap i could find it.
@geekandbrew Ok thanks...Im not positive we have to get our own..im gonna ask my friend thats in to make sure. I just figured id ask in case that way im not in total shock lol
Yeah Volunteers dont run into buildings thats why I had to run into a building just the other day that was on fire to save a little girl trapped inside I dont do it for the glory I do it for the community and no I'm not paid
Are yall not allowed to run code to the station in your POV? In South Carolina We can run code in our POV but we have to have some sort of 360 light and siren. It was a good video also.
Why do y'all use green lights in your POV's? In Texas (and some other southern states) we can use Red and Blue lights and sirens in our POV's. No one would pull over if we just used green lights. Good video! God Bless y'all
@redneck81100 Hey bud just seeing you post about them using green vs yal using red, well here in Pennsylvania the volunteer firefighter uses blue lights, everyone is differnet although I think most states are using blue for the volunteer fiefighter responding to station or scene ( depends if you have my luck going to station only to find the call is completly different from where it was dispatched!) lol but anycase the color dont matter we all do the same job right? Stay safe everyone!
@pewed plecca Not nessecarily true. Illinois Has blue and white along with mass. Indian has red whte blue and siren alon with texas and some departments even allow green red blue orange and red along and with out siren.
Problem! ALOT of farm town departments. Will turn away a recuit for simply not being in the click. Even if said person has been a paramedic for years, 100% clean background and driving record. I was denied based on being an annoyance checking on my app every meeting. I was deemed over interested and denied
How can you respond to calls being that your only 15? in my township we have to be 18 in order to respond to any emergency scene due to insurance reasons. I call bullcrap about this.
Great Video guys. My fire department in alabama can only run green, amber, or white lights in povs. I really like this recruitment video. Could you give me some tips so that I could do one for Calcedeaver Volunteer Fire/Rescue? Thanks
Ever since I was a kid I wanted to become a firefighter and still want to, im college studying to become a computer engineer, but in the meantime I want to really be a firefighter how do I become one? can I be one with just a hs diploma? and how long does it usually take to get out there and start helping people!? Thanks in advance! :)
@esherlinski hey man, do you know what the process is of doing volunteer firefighting? I know you have to be on call etc..but did u register and a local fire department? etc.... reply back please
@jay215ill I am a volunteer Firefighter and i dont know where you get your info but we do all the samethings as Paid ones 2 weeks ago i was just inside a burning house myself and our whole department is volunteer as well as many others in the area and we do just as much and all the same things as Paid firefighters and most volunteer Firefighters i know can do any job just as good as almost any Career Firefighter
For all the people that are hating. You need to think twice cause my father is a firefighter and you have no idea what they go through my father saves lives on hiss pare time and what do you do complain about volunteers my father thinks it's paying enough just to save a life he has had many chances to be paid and he turned it down okay so stop the hating volunteers do just as much as paid staff does!
FTSmedic it all depends on the Chief and the police in my Hampton county South Carolina we can go all the way around with lights and a siren some do it and some don’t
hey guys..I'm looking into joining my local volunteer company and im pretty sure we have to buy our own turnout gear. Any recomendations on the kind/brand and how much its probably gonna run me. From what i was lookin at its gonna be like 1500 bucks. thanks :D
I can not believe that jay215ill would rather insult the volunteer service, then maybe give some helpfull tips a lot of young firefighters look for this not insults.
