I just did this, very well explained video. It took me about 2.5 hours - including a trip to the store that took me about one hour (My windshield wipers was vey stuck, had to buy a removal tool). One tip; if you got electric chairs, you should move them as far back as possible before you start, to get the most amount of room when removing the CEM at the end.
These guys do great work. Whenever my auto repair shop finds an issue with a module or computer we send it out to them and they always do an exceptional job repairing and reprogramming them. Shipping to Canada for us is not an issue either, we often times receive the part in less than a week and we have even received it the following business day. Keep up the great work we really appreciate all that you do to help keep our family business alive. Cheers from California.
I sent them my cem a week ago. Got it back today and reinstalling. These guys work fast , friendly and are awesome......just like vanilla crown royal .

I was half way on the removal and knew there was something more to do. Now that I've seen this video removal will be easy. Thanks for the great video and explanations.
If you live in the salt belt or in Canada, those wiper arms will the solidly stuck, use a quality wiper arm puller and remember to reseal properly that cover 10:18 so you don't get the same problem again, use a qualtiy outdoor silicone
Great video guys very clear and precise . Have one to take out of an xc90 and now I dont have to spend hours trying to work out how it cones out . Thanks
ITS' REALLY HELPS.... LOT OF THANX TO ALL BEHIND... GOD BLESS ALL... ( & thts why VOLVO were always state in mind when came to vehicle...theres LOT of info regarding tho ...) 💪💪💪💚
S60 2004. How can you tell if the ECM or the CEM is faulty. I tried ready codes with 3 different scanners and didn't get any codes. The electronics has a mind of its own. For example, the sunroof will open by itself, the car engine turns over but will not start, odometer not working, interior light switch does not alway shut off and more....I don't know where to start. I love my 2004 S60 and don't want to scrap it. Help! Your videos are amazing and we're all thankful for them!
Video explains the procedure perfectly. Does this also apply to a 2010 Volvo S80? If not do you have a any information on removing the cem from this model? Many thanks.
Hi! I literally followed this video step by step, yet the CEM won't budge after everything has been completed. Is there a magic trick I am not understanding? It won't even move. Thanks in advance ------- 2008 volvo xc90
No way the wiper arm will come out like at 5:33 Almost surely the wiper arms are stuck on their stud after removing the nut. Make sure to have at hand a small puller, don't force or pry on the arm, it will damage the wiper linkage mechanism underneath.
Hi,it's a great video.I have the same car 2006 model. For me is interesting to find the blinker( flasher) relay. Can I get advise from You? Do You have more videos for Volvo XC70 models 2005-2007
Dear Sir, Thank you for this video - very informative. At 2min 40s into the clip there are 2 grey and blue connectors which appear in the video - these do not appear to have been connected to the CEM and are just hanging loose - what do these connect to or are they just spare? Thanks Saj
Love your videos guy's!!! I have a 07 Volvo Xc90 V8 had windshield and sunroof replaced only to receive car back with no power inside..AT ALL..no odometer, speedometer, radio, sunroof, gas meter, windows, orAc all gauges out what happened?? Please help Respectfully your dearest fan.

Hi, I've got a 2007 Volvo XC70. I believe the High beam, right fuse is blown on the CEM. The Volvo Wiring Diagram V70/V70R/XC70/XC90 TP3998202 2007 shows that within the 4/56 Central Electronic Module, the part is No. F23; Fuse Function: 10/64 High beam, right; A:10. Can you tell me what the part ID for a replacement would be so that I can find it online?
Are these units (Headunit / ICM ) plug and play or do they have to be programmed by the dealer if purchased used? i have an 'Volvo v70, 2012. Around a year ago the radio and infotainment system started to fail. and wondering if the problem is the ICM unit? . I was recently given the car and I have started to diagnose and try to fix this issue. The symptoms of this issue are the screen for the infotainment system not working but its turn on and hanging on and on, all of the lower lights and buttons work such as the heated seats and or the defroster and fan control. They all work . Up till this point when I turned the car on I would receive no light from the screen and none of the audio buttons such as FM, AM, and or volume not either, about 6 mounts ago the rear park sensor failed to show on screen. grateful for every answers
Great video....I have a 2005 xc90....the windshield wipers have stopped working....I have tested the relays...replaced the wiper motor and the wiper switch.....after looking at the wiring diagram it looks as if it could be the CEM that is giving me the issue....if I replace it do I then need to get it programed?
Hi Marc. We offer a repair and return service for your 2005 XC90 CEM. Basic repair usually takes care of wiper issues, but if there is excessive water damage we may have to replace the circuit board. For more information please view our CEM repair and return page here: bit.ly/1wW1FI8 You can always call us toll-free (US & Canada): 1-888-712-2525 and speak with a customer service rep.
I have a similar issue, my wiper circuit is blowing fuse #7 under the hood, even if there isn't a key in the ignition. Wiring diagram shows the circuit going through this CEM. Are the CEMs programmed to the vehicle?
+sreviz Thanks for watching our video! I spoke to our tech and he said there was a service bulletin from Volvo regarding a cem modification for a plenum lid part number #30728860 that includes a service grommet part number #30775689. Our tech said that is basically the only protection available. You will have to check at your local shop if those part numbers match your vehicle as the design changed for later models. Hope this helps!
Hi Joseph. Yes, for a cloning service we will need you to send us the original unit along with the used unit for software transfer. If you have any further questions, please contact us toll-free at 1-888-712-2525 or visit xemodex.com.
I recently lost me 2001 s60 key bought one off ebay and got it programmed, but after 20mins of driving I noticed dashboard light disappeared and relays clicking all over the place headlights winking and can't start back, any word on this issue ??
Awesome video. I hope I don't have to remove it. I have a 11 xc90 and the number 10 fuse keeps blowing on the CEM. it controls the DIM, climate control, OWS, and a few other things. I'm trying to chase down the problem but I just can't seem to find it. 02-03 dims were bad. I don't think that's it. the car warms up after awhile and I hit a bump and pops. doesn't pop before it warms? ever hear of anything like this? thanks for the videos. I'll look for a blend door video next just incase
Hi Ted. I spoke to our tech and he said you should unplug the other modules on the circuit to see if the problem still persists. First unplug the ICM and perform a test drive. Then unplug the DIM and perform another test drive. This will help you figure out which module is causing the issue. If the fuse still pops after you have tested all of the modules, he said that is an indicator you may have a problem with your wiring.
My 2009 XC90 V8 doesn’t have some options that I would like to add, like heated seats. Instead of hours of programming with Vida, can I replace the CEM of one that has this option? I already have the modules that go under the seats, the temperature control module with the heated seat buttons and the cushions with the heat elements.
I've got an 05 or 06 xc70 I can't remember which year. But would it be the cem that wouldn't allow me to use the key with the car or would it be something else? And would I need to call for a price to either fix it or get a replacement?
Do you guys have any idea if i might be able to find this part ? I broke it while taking out my cem to send it to you lol. pa6-gb20gf10 is the part number
Dana F I was having the same problem, I’d recommend to first check that light bulb wires since they may be stripped which lower the voltage, which was my problem. Hope it can help.
the fuse box you pulled out at 14:03 are those the fuses that control instrument panel functions such as speedometer, fuel guage and etc? as well as ac/heat and driver side seat adjustments?
+donovan scott Hi Donovan. Fuse #15 specifically controls the odometer, mileage and trip functions. Fuse #10 controls A/C and the instrument cluster (DIM). The speedometer and RPM are controlled by the TCM.
@@XemodexInc my volvo s60 2002 speedometer says in winters that my engine too hot slow safely, and sometimes it speed 3000rpm even i dont push gas on my feet. What is this TCM??? I think i need fix my cem also
Great video.. On my 2005 S80 auto transmission goes into limp mode and lights on the selector go off and the dash indicator is blank. All codes were cleared by workshop then went for a short drive. 3 new codes appeared (Modules with faults) 1/ 3F03 shift signal too low. 2/ 1A61 Communication with TCM control module signal missing. 3/3F83 immobiliser signal too low. Mechanic says CEM is the fault with my transmission. Any suggestions? Thanks very much

I have 05 XC90 2.5 and have had a ton of issues, car would lose power, die, would start again, totally at random. Changed fuel pump, filter, MAP, fuel regulator, checked fuses and replaced relays, so with no change, I pulled out CEM as water did get on floor, cleaned out sunroof drains, but I could see water spots on top of CEM, so pulled it out with help of your excellent video, thank you. I saw corrosion on PC board, the usual white residual, so I cleaned it all up with 99% alcohol, came right off, blew it dry, reinstalled and now won't start at all, turned over, started, stumbled and died, no fuel to rail? So can CEM cause no fuel to rail. And if so, what are your charges to test unit. Thanks.
Hello! I spoke to our tech and he said you should send us your CEM for testing to determine the fault. We charge $75 for testing the unit. Call us toll-free at 1-888-712-2525 and ask to speak to our sales department or you can e-mail us info(at)xemodex.com.
how you resole the problem ? i had water belowe driver seat, and then after that, had bunch of error codes...servo, parking sensors, parking brake, dstc even sometimes collant level...etc

Question: Why did you remove the CEM module on the Volvo XC79? My problem on my 2006 XC70, is that there is a heavy electrical short on my 2006 Volvo XC70. I love the car, but it eats the juice right out of the battery. I have pulled every fuse looking for a short, but no luck. PLEASE help!
I have the same problem on a 2005 xc90. I'm hoping this is not the issue, but it seems the CEM was strategically located in a wet area. If it's the CEM, I'd expect to see some corrosion on those top connectors.
Is that controlling the front parkinglights?I am notbtaking that of now.Been reading there is a relaynthere resonsible for the arking lights and fog lights ...but this is a newer version amd dont see anybrelays there...
Hi! I highly suggest that you reach out to our Tech Support team for confirmation and further assistance with your troubleshooting. You may contact our Tech Support team by using the "Technical Questions" form on our website here: xemodex.com/us/xemodex-technical-questions/
I've got a position lights general warning on the IP shortly after washing my xc90 and the front parklight won't light up anymore. Rear ones still do. As it seems, the front bulb feed directly into the CEM, no fuse , no relay. I'm guessing there's a bucket of water in the CEM. And yes, it's a 2005 model , so it's prone to water ingress. If so, I'm considering buying a CEM from the scrapheap. Is the CEM part of the immobilizer system? Does it store mileage ? I'd hate to replace it and find out the car won't start anymore or the IP reading a ludicrous mileage .Thanks !
+Claudiu Octavian Hi Claudiu. I spoke to our tech and he said that the CEM is programmed to your vehicle. +XeMODeX Inc Could you help me sir? I have V70 Volvo 2006. The problem is that engine is not crancking. Computer told me that immobiliser has no connection with CEM. I think that the fuse is blown, bacause the starter was burned and of course I replaced it. Could you tell me where is located the fuse responsible for immobiliser?

Please call us toll-free at 1-888-712-2525 (US & Canada) or send an email to info@xemodex.com. We will need you to provide us with a print out of the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) report from your vehicle. Once you send us this information along with the issues your vehicle is experiencing, our tech support will help you determine the issue. Thank you!
Hi Nuj. Common symptoms of a faulty CEM relates to low speed issues such as power windows, power seats, etc. 2005 and newer CEM also suffer from a variety of failures from communication issues to total shutdowns. They are also prone to water damage, resulting in an even broader range of failures. I spoke to our tech and he said if you suspect that your CEM is faulty, you should take your vehicle in to a volvo specialty shop to get diagnosed and read for DTC codes. Once you get these codes, give us a call toll-free at 1-888-712-2525 and we can provide you with a solution for your CEM. Thank you.
I have a 05 volvo xc90 t6 2.9 I got these too codes control module 118daf110 and 118daf118 if anyone can help me out how to fix it I will really appreciate it.
If the VIDA diagnostic tool shows that there are 0 keys stored in the CEM, then yes. Sometimes the attempts to add keys back through VIDA’s key application fail. In this case we would have to wipe-out the corrupted key registry in your CEM when we do a Program Transfer procedure which will make it possible to add all keys back to the CEM again using VIDA.
Sorry about that, Bennie. Hope you were able to remove the CEM! You can contact our Tech Support department if you still require assistance with your troubleshooting. We're happy to help.
I have a 2004 volvo v70, I recently had issues with the cem overheating causing to car to shut down and not restart, I put a heat sink on the CPU and it hasn't given me any issues since. After the cem was fixed i got a message saying gear selector reduced function or something. The car drives normal and shifts normal but does not let me drive in manual mode. Could there be a correlation?
