Volvo Penta DPE/290DP Lower unit resealing Part 3

This is the 3rd video I did while working on a DPE sterndrive, this one had lots of issues, however I finished this one with the resealing of the lower unit in which I had to replace the bearing carrier as well. Hope it helps my Volvo Penta Techs!

Very interesting on how the system works and how to refurbish. Needs a lot of special tools. Nice clean shop. I would be happy to have Ted work on my boat

This is great. I just replaced the prop shaft bearing housing carrier on my VP SX-A. Seems to work great so far.

Hi Ted, I have been watching your very informative videos. I am in the process of resealing my 1990 290dp lower unit and removed the outer and inner prop shafts to check runout. The outer is .002 TIR and the Inner is .005 TIR when put in vee blocks. My question, if you would be so kind, is whether the outer shaft is still in tolerance, and should I try to straighten the inner shaft. Thanks in advance for any advice.

No vibration issue prior? Put it together and run it. .005/2 =.0025

Hey Ted, since owning a 290dp I've become very familiar with the top end, but the bottom was scary territory for me. Thanks for the video, it helps a lot more people than the ones who comment I'm sure. Are you aware of anything in the bottom end that would cause this drive to begin slipping and hitting high rpm's at full throttle? I know it's not the prop hubs, they are marked. The top end, shaft and everything else looks good. I even pulled the motor out this week to check the flywheel, etc. and everything is good on that end. I don't expect a full diagnosis, I'm sure you have better things to do. Just curious if you've ever encountered this before. Thanks and again great video!

Did you replace the drive coupler that is bolted to the flywheel? That or a slipping cone clutch are the only things besides the props.

Thank you for the video. Would you be able to tell me what the part number is for the seals on top of the lower unit that seal the case?

Hello, if there is no way to where you can get it, build it yourself on a lathe, so it was always in the GDR/Germany ;-)
