Thanks for posting this, you've just saved my ~£400! I was going to book my car in to the dealer to have both rear shocks replaced, but will do it myself after seeing this!
Just ordered my rear shock absorbers PN 31340540 from FCP Euro to get them installed soon. Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation in the video-it’s really helpful! Great job breaking down the process step by step.
@@fcpeuro Finally I received the rear shocks today. Thank God for the gorgeous weather here in Florida. I was able to replace the shocks with one little catch. The mounting plate is not so easy to remove and put back since the rod is spinning in the shock body. You gotta have a impact wrench for that, luckily I have one. 2 hours work saved me $400 compared to Goodyear quote. Thanks again.
i hope its not too late, but NEVER BUY A VOLVO!!! total crap cars. lots more reliave and safe vehicles that are not DESIGNED to frustrate the owner out of DIY repairs. if you have made a vovlo purchase take it as a lesson and get rid of it while you can. NEVER BUY A VOLVO, take it from someone who has lots of experience with them.
@@soylentgreen2065 they are entirely easy as hell to work on what are you talking about? They are only a pain if you have Nivomat rear suspension bc there is no aftermarket support for those or awd rear suspension.
I bought a 2017 XC90 and nothing but problems. Major engine issues at 30,000 miles, rear squirter doesn't work, O2 sensors went bad in 2 years, Air conditioner doesn't work. Be prepared to have a never ending check engine light notification. I can't sell this car fast enough.
A different video said you needed to prime the shock before installing. Is that the case? Doesn't seem like it would hurt anything, but also wasn't sure if it was necessary/beneficial.
Much nicer design on the upper mount when compared P-80's cars. The bolts extend down to the tire and they get rusty and brake when you attempt to removed them.
I had a cylinder shaped....washer type object?? between the strut mount and the strut of my Volvo S60. Do i need to replace this in the same way it came out?
Hi! I have a s60 where only the upper mount itself has broken, is it adviseable to only change tjat or should you alwas swap out the entite shock? Thanks!
Similar question as another guy and kind of need an answer quickly. Mine has a standoff as part of the assembly. Bout an inch tall, fits over the center treads. I wasn't paying attention when I took this off. Where does it go? Under the boot washer? Between the boot and mount? Under the nut inside the mount? I can't find a good picture that answers this. *bellow not boot
What is that stand/vise/homemade table for your battery powered ban saw @ 3min into the video? I've been saying for years some one needs to make a stand like that so you can table cut materals in the field. Where can I get one?
S80 T6 p3 the same shock setup? Just bought it 3 days ago and haven't had it on my lift yet. But something lightly clunking aounds like im the trunk almost.
Ps @fcpeuro I just bought the mounts from you guys as well as fuel pressure sensor. Getting a very random p0087.. wasn't enough to turn a cel and would just be pending and now progressively getting more frequent to where it caused a cel once.
Thanks for the video! I have 4c struts on my 2010 xc70. The replacementprocedure looks the same to me. Do you know if you need to recalibrate the 4c suspension in Vida in order for the new shocks to work properly?
Hi Merde, while you could possibly get away with just swapping out the parts, it is recommended to have the system calibrated to maximize performance of the units.
Hi there, a visual inspection should be a clear giveaway as the bodies are pretty different between the two. Another way is by contacting our service team via email at service@fcpeuro.com and providing them with your VIN and ID plate!
Yeah, what drives me nuts is they give you all brand new bolts with each part they ship but never use them in their videos. Also, they are based out of the US and use Newton Meter torque specs. I was raised on Foot Pounds, not the conversion of Foot Pounds...
It says "XC70" but my 2004 XC70 requires removal of the spring/shock assy - seems like the same process for removing the front strut/spring. Sort of misleading or am I not seeing something? Thanks
Hi, Dave. Your 2004 XC70 is a P2 generation Volvo, this video is for a P3 generation XC70, etc. That is probably why you are noticing differences. We will be sure to make that more clear!
