Another great review Anna. I like that Volvo thinks things through from a user perspective and not just ticks in boxes. The physical knobs and buttons for both media and climate are clear winners here as is the inclusion of Google Maps. The trim looks good and well nailed together as well. Exterior styling is personal but Volvo didn't do a bad job here but I'm not a fan of the kicked up rear quarter window as this reduces visibility for 'style' but with the plethora of cameras I guess this is a minor point on this car. I love the comment about 'a little alter for the mobile phone', that's a new one but perfectly describes it. Brilliant presentation as usual. Oh and I wish you a very happy new 2024.

Had a V90 (which I loved), with that infotainment system - it was a 2017 car and the display looked a bit outdated three years ago. Can't believe they are still putting it on brand new models, even in a updated form

Actually its rear wheel driven. And range is about 600km wltp. I take you are testing model 2023, the old model. Mine will be delivered in April 2024.

Happy 2024 to all. If I had to choose between the XC 40 or EX 30 I would go for the full electric Volvo EX 30. And probably complain a lot about central display, no head up display etc. 😊

I love my XC60 b4 in UK, as you do Anna, I’m not convinced about EV, but Volvo seem to have the best package, and with the fit and finish beats others in the class with ease

Appreciate you reviewing this car and will only register my opinion as a car designer aka automotive engineer in the US. I will never own an EV...or at least not for the next 10-20 years unless there is a major battery breakthrough and change in charging infrastructure. And of course with my background, I understand the profound differences between EV's and ICE that the public doesn't understand. A small EV would make an ok back up vehicle kept in the garage as a city runabout that you don't have to stand around in public charging if/when you can locate an unoccupied charging station. But a small back up ICE vehicle can do this all for less and less hassle. In America, the government is pushing EV's and incentivizing buyers with a $7500 tax break which is laughable. Resale on aging EV's,which are still relatively new, will be abysmal which will become more apparent as EV's age in the next 5 years or so. A replacement battery on a Tesla 3 series is $20K+. An equivalent gas car is easily $5-10K cheaper to purchase and one can fill it up at the local gas station in 5 minutes and you can actually find a mechanic who can fix it if it breaks. Also supercharging EV's shortens battery life span because it accelerates oxidation of Li-Ion cells. Good luck to EV owners out there. There is a pretty toxic story of not one but two Hyundai Ioniq 5 owners that the dealer wanted to charge $60K for a new battery. Yes, you read that right, 6-0. Go find the story on line, Motormouth has done two videos on it and they are a credible channel and interviewed an owner. Before you buy one, be sure to call the dealer and price a replacement battery. All the best in the New Year. PS. won't even address how Cobalt, a constituent metal of Li-Ion batteries is extracted from the earth in the Congo via child slave labor. No words. Creating batteries from minerals mined from the earth environmentally is one of the dirtiest aka least green enterprises on the planet independent of egregious exploitation of humans.

Great video as ever Anna. With regard to EV, the fact that so many people have been gaslit into accepting the mediocrity and inconvenience of such bad range and such long “refuelling” (recharge obviously) times, is an absurdity. Volvo has admitted themselves, that the emissions to create this vehicle far exceed those of producing the ICE version so all the virtue signalling is for nothing. Added to that, many people are getting themselves into debt just to finance these EVs because they feel compelled to make the switch.
