Volvo XC70 in-depth review - Carbuyer 

now, this is a man's car right there. simple interior, rugged exterior, safe, a fuckload of boot, powerful engine. love it.

This summer I drove 15 hours to Sweden with my '13 V70 and it was a joy, 4500km in 7 days.

the best non-off road snow car of all time; good snow handling, extremely safe, surprisingly nimble, and can fit a family of 4 with camping equipment. And they go for pretty cheap used.

The best Volvo ever, unbeatable.What a great torque, unbelievable, low consumption and fast.The best!

Hello guys. Just so you know I have not left Carbuyer. There will be a video from me very soon and I'm going to be testing the new Ford Mondeo the week after next. And a Lamborghini (this last bit is a lie...)

The V70 & XC70 are among the last big estates which have a near vertical tail gate and have rear seats which will fold to create a completely flat floor. Still makes them the most useful to load large stuff in the back, wish they would bring in a new petrol engine though or get some quieter diesels...

Why would you recommend FWD?! There's actually no point of having an XC70 if you don't chose AWD. People chose this car because it can do almost anything off-road but also work on road without being too big. If you're going to recommend the D4 FWD- just say 'get a V70' because it's even more of a saving...

"If you fancy something a little more up-market..." Wait, so Volvos aren't up-market? Because up-market is exactly what they are.

i own this exact model, not sure what other comments are on about, but as soon as you sit in this car you have a sense of quality and luxury around you. everything is thought through all the materials look and fell expensive....a pleasure to drive and enjoy

That corner from about 3:35... The amount of body roll caught my eye. I'm not even sure the left rear wheel stayed on the tarmac all the time. I'm quite sure this car is a comfortable and high quality cruiser, though.

I love the styling, it looks like a pittbull. :) And it's a true S/W with a vertical tail gate, none of this slanted nonsense offered by other manufacturers.

I am on my second XC70. Brilliant car.

Can't understand people slagging Ginny. She's excellent at reviewing cars and is extremely knowledgeable. Go on Pornhub if you want something to look at but shut up otherwise..

you forgot to mention, the D5 engine of that era would outlast any german engine, it’s just a brilliant piece of engineering

Does she not know that Volvo rear seats don't only fold down? The back seats fold up and the backs fold down, so the entire back can be flat if you want it. She just showed the backs folded down, which undersells what they can actually do :l I've got an '04 XC70 and don't agree that it's "more comfortable than fun." The turbocharged 5-cylinder engine gives it sportscar-like kick, it hugs corners, and turns on a dime. It's one of the funnest cars I've driven, but maybe I'm biased lol. And since when is Volvo lower-end than Audi. I don't know about everywhere else, but a 2015 XC70 starts at CAD$42,500 for the base. The next starting figure is 49K and the next is 54K. The Audi A4 Allroad is 47K for the base. Seems to me like they're both high-end...

Come on guys, we all love Mat. But Ginny is not bad at all. She's professional and her reviews are informative. I do, however, find she could use bit of light-hearted humour. But that's just me. Overall, excellent review by Ginny.

Is volvo reliable? Ive never driven one or ridden one. None of my family member(dad/mom side) have one.. All I keep reading from the negative side is theyre heavy? and positive side is theyre really safe.. Any opinions? Btw what does the T5 mean on some volvos? Is 5 the number of cylinders?

Good review as usual. I still hate the Volvo centre consoles. They look like an aftermarket bolt on that doesn't even tie into the rest of the dash.

Don't worry about the mileage thees cars can do 300,000 miles as long as u get it regularly serviced don't use cheep engine oil

I also have a Forester Turbo XT 2015, you can not compare both cars mainly because Volvo is luxury, safer and mucho comfortable.Forester is great, faster and the best all wheel drive system, but it is one level low.

Here in the States, I don't think we have the Diesel version, which is ok for me because I prefer the gasoline or petrol version anyway.

The equivalent Subaru is not the Forester but the Outback which has almost as much space and handles better in all situations on & off road!!

this car is not called "estate" because there isn't another version of this car, it's just XC70 and everyone knows what does that name mean!

My dad owns a 2014 xc70 d4 awd and it doesent Come with satnav

When will reviewers get it right ?? AWD is NOT 4WD ... The XC70 like all other AWD cars cannot lock all wheels to drive .. but it swaps wheels depending on traction using the ABS detection etc. Press the Winter button and all it does is choose a higher gear to start of in and controls more closely any wheel spin. Even with Haldex system fitted to the later XC70 - you still have the trye change problem ... 1. a limit to tread wear difference across the 4 tyres ... 2. if you are a rotation tyre person - then you need rotate tyres frequently - if you don't - then DON"T rotate the tyres - the AWD system will break and cost you dearly... ask me how I know .. I am on my 2nd XC70 - I live in Baltics and I need such car .. my other is a Range Rover with 4WD . 3. with the AWD system and wheels fited as standard - it has a lot of road noise .. you can reduce it by changing to road only tyres - but then you lose a lot of grip in the rough stuff. If you want performance - then take the petrol engine ... it puts to shame many other cars at the lights .. my XC70 is tuned to T5 and it really moves. But fuel economy is not its strong point. If you want economy and torque - then its the D5 ...

I would like to say that your videos are among the best we can find and I love them. But recently I have found a slight drop of the quality. For starters, Matt has not been in any reviews for two-and-a-half months. His reviews had 'flavour' and make the your excellent Channel interesting. Can I please ask when he will come back? And second. You have always stated in your videos "Subscribe to Carbuyer were we will upload a new video every week." You however lately seem to not be keeping your promise (maybe it is because if Matt not being here I understand), you have told many Suscribers to check the Carbuyer Website, but please, upload them on RU-vid! Other than that, good luck and hope everything goes well. Yours sincerely.

I love Volvo, in fact I drive one. But that XC70 looks like from the 90s, even more than the normal V70 an overhaul is long overdue.

XC70 IS BASED ON THE S60 PLATFORM . S60 IS A MID SIZED CAR THUS MAKING THE XC70 A MID SIZED ALL ROAD MORE APPROPRIATE TO FIGHT AGAINST A4 ALLROAD . UNTIL TODAY A6 ALLROAD DOES NOT HAVE A DIRECT COMPETITOR IN THE LUXURY , LARGE SIZE "ALLROAD" DEPARTMENT .
