I love my 5X. I use a PA T1/T2 mount to move the optic back and an EGW mount to piggyback my Holosun/RMR. The RMR is the perfect height and position for NVG and the optic focuses well for magnified NOD use. I think this starts to compete with the ACOG on price and features alone, even if you have to get another piece or two. As for the piggyback, due to the height, I’d probably zero it at 75-80 yards. This allows the dot to shoot within a 6” oval out to 230 yards. That gives you a coarse sighting system that is easy to use in a pinch and another for identification for more precise shots with the BDC. The BDC shoots a tad high with M193 so slightly lower pressure .223 will match nicely with the BDC. As for the eye box issues, this may sound like a strange cope but a tight eye box might increase precision because it doesn’t allow your head to move enough to induce large parallax shifts.

Do you use backup iron sights on your setup? I'm putting together an upper similar to the one you're describing ... swapped my LPVO for this prism, trying to decide if I want BUIS or not.
@FlatlanderGear
@FlatlanderGear Год назад
@@adamk897 Not at the moment. I would possibly run BUIS if a more swept back T1/T2 mount were available which gave some extra rail space on the rear of the receiver. I’m also not a fan of offset irons but I don’t see why those couldn’t work.

Great review, as always. Alittle tip an old electro-optician thought me is to use a flashlight to look into the front objective, to search for specks of dirt and grime. as this can influence the quality of the light transfusion, and gives an indicator of what quality standards a factory has. Id also like to know the real exit pupile of optic, as they can hide bad quality glass by cheating the size of the exit pupile.

Do you really need to put a red dot on top of the Spitfire 5x ? Is the 5x to much for up close?
@justsnuggle
@justsnuggle Год назад
I do not agree with you battery compartment issue. Why open it in the "Woods" unless its dead.... so if you loose it .. who cares. 2nd the ones with the spring are a PITAss to get the battery out, usually you need a tool like a small screwdriver, which means you have to keep one in you kit, and use it to PRY battery out, risking damage to your optic. So I think this is the preferred battery compartment method.

I've been thinking about getting a magnified prism to replace my red dot and magnifier but a lot of people say the red dot + magnifier is more useful all around.
@williambell7763
@williambell7763 Год назад
You end up about the same weight with most prism as a red dot+3x and lose low end
@somebody1476
@somebody1476 Год назад
The rivalry of prism+rds vs rds+magnifier is overstated. It's more of a question of are you going to use 1x more with occasional magnification or do you usually shoot out further and still want to be able engage close range targets

Of the various prism optics I’ve looked through, the only ones I’ve actually liked have been various ACOGs and the SIG Bravo3 and 5. On the rest, the field of view and glass on the rest have just been disappointing.

Is there any other brand red dots that will fit the vortex 5x? I like the holosun but not liking the vortex red dots.
@hidude398
@hidude398 10 месяцев назад
EGW sells an RMR footprint adapter plate that will take the Holosun plus the Trijicon (and others w/ RMR footprint). I'm looking into it for a red dot solution since I want NVG brightness settings on my piggyback.
@hawkslayer2351
@hawkslayer2351 10 месяцев назад
@@hidude398 I tried a cylee calf x1 and it actually is pretty nice so far just hope it holds zero? It is frustrating they dont have a plate that reversable for either way? The EGW plate looks great but I cant find them anywhere unless i put it on a wait list or backorder all that i saw were out of stock? The cylee is cool cause it even has the backup sight on it and shake awake, where the holosun did not. I do trust the holosun more so if i can get a better solution to mount it or even a better docter noblex sight that would be great?

I had the 3x Gen II prism and absolutely hated it. It seemed like a great scope, but in execution is was just awful. The reticle was too small, and the eye relief was very bad. The ACOG is 100% better, and I sold the prism and got a TA-11 that I’m extremely happy with.
@MrTartarSauced

yeah man most of the Prisma I've seen have small reticles. even the primary arms has just a small circle. I wish more manufacturers had something big and bold like the Elcan instead of just an infinite number of circle dot acss knockoffs. cross reticles are still better
