This "New Tube" tech is the most interesting thing about these amps. Vox should do a technical demonstration by building a "New Tube" equipped AC30 and comparing it to a "real" AC30. If the difference is miniscule or non existent then we have a game changer in amplifier technology on our hands. If not it's just some gimmicky marketing BS.
@JacobPadlock
@JacobPadlock 7 лет назад
and even if it doesn't quite compare, it's still not quite a gimmicky technology because it allows them to put actual tubes in way way way smaller amps
@GitShiddy
@GitShiddy 7 лет назад
True, it would also be lighter to haul around than the current form. But might also improve the responsiveness/tone of the high end modelling amps like Fractal & Kemper. That is assuming the "New Tube" tech isn't just a marketing gimmick and is an actual technological leap.
@GitShiddy
@GitShiddy 7 лет назад
I mean we've had the same tube technology in amps for nearly 100 years. If these "New Tubes" are a technological leap for the tube/valve it would behoove the music industry for Vox to build an AC30 using "New Tubes" to prove it's not just a fancy marketing tool and is actual the future.
@vvmakovv2689

As a physics student who knows a decent amount about the evolution of technology I really do believe that this is the future of guitar amps... Amp Modeling is limitless yes... And helpful for touring. However I believe that one technology wont overpower the other, it will just be a matter of choice like it is now... Tube, or modeling. Just with much more advanced technology of course. I personally would get both a modeling and a nutube based amp. They both have there uses. Same thing goes for pedals. There will always be analog and digital.

Bought the AC version, party because I have a 4ohm 2×12 cab. I can honestly say, best non full tube amp I have ever heard. Wicked loud at half volume on 50 watt mode through 4 ohm cab. Takes pedals brilliantly-but the grit on board is quite nice. This is not a cheap toy. It's not a 2x12 all tube combo amp, but it is damned close.

I have a little amp called Bluguitar Amp1 and it has some russian military tube of some sort that is the size of a tube of Chapstick and it is rugged as hell and will last damn near forever. It is a 100w head the size of a large pedal and is so packed with features that it still amazes me. That is the way of the future my friends.

I just got one this week (clean version) i can't say how amazed i am with it. Got the clean as prefer to have the choice of running my own choice of drive pedals, but so far i've just been so impressed with the clean tone and the combination of the basic treble, bass and my guitars pickups, tone and volume that i haven't got a pedal nr it yet. plugged into a Backstar artisan 212 with celestion vintage 30 loudspeakers - just ****ing amazing! The tone out of this thing is surreal - treble rolled right back and bit of extra bass and just got that lovely warm boutique kinda sound (yeah i know its not boutique but this is delivering the sound i never expected to achieve on my budget!).

You should do a shootout with these, the Orange Micro, and those Hotone mini things ALSO, a more "topgear" version of that would be a "smallest rig challenge" I mean like 3/4 scale guitars, 2ft patch cables, those novelty microstacks that are like 4 inches tall just for the shits and giggles

The reason why the Clean amo is the most popular is cuz there amps don't have FX loops, so the clean one is the only one with which delays and choruses and reverbs and all the post distortion effects will sound better with it.

Hi there, excellent review as usual. Here's a suggestion : when you demo "small amps", a valuable info would be to have some kind of measurement of the dbs in the room, just to figure out for us whether you are playing loud, quiet, etc. ? and, more accurately, how loud is the clean headroom for an amp... etc. just to know whether you can actually gig with it or ... ?

I'm an electrical engineer (BSEE & MSEE) - basically, the "Nutube" is a common fluorescent display found in clocks and stereos, some cars, and many other places. Yes, it's a real tube - with a much lower plate voltage & designed to be a display. All they did was adapt all the existing machinery that has existed for decades to make this compact tube for audio. Compared to the 12AX7 the transconductance is MUCH lower, the plate voltage (and current) is MUCH lower, the power dissipation is MUCH lower, the gain factor is MUCH lower. Not saying this is necessarily bad for guitar distortion - but as a basic amplifying device on its own - it is deficient. Still though - a cool idea. I'll be buying one as a backup amp.

I have a Vox Cambridge 50 with a nutube and I'm absolutely in love with it. The "double rec" model (i think you can guess what that is emulating) sounds amazing. Sure, you can tell it's not the real deal but it's close enough for my taste just playing at home as a hobby.

Great sound out of the Vox mini heads. I could see these amps being very versatile in a studio situation since it doesn't take 45 minutes to dial in a type of sound you may be looking for in about 5-10 minutes. Plus it carries with it the tried and true vox sound with little effort. I definitely could see studios supplanting how I was

If it had an effects loop, I'd be all over these instead of buying an actual tube amp this winter. They sound pretty damned good! As it is, I may invest in that little 1x8 Vox cabinet these are going into. Not bad at all. The emulated output is the most impressive feature, actually, since if you mounted it to a pedalboard, one of these would make a great preamp into a larger solid state amp like a Fender Frontman 212. Damn you guys for making it more difficult for me to pick an amp!!!
@Tommy712rus
@Tommy712rus 9 месяцев назад
Why don't just plug effects after this pedal?..
@bradleyard4195
@bradleyard4195 9 месяцев назад
@Tommy712rus Good question! The answer is, because it isn't a pedal. Plugging in effects after it would be like plugging in effects after the power section of any amp. You would likely damage the amp and/or the effects unit. You could plug effects in after the emulated output, but they likely wouldn't sound very good. You're much better off having any effects units placed before the amp, even something like this, unless you have a dedicated effects loop that allows you to place them between the preamp and power amp.

Good to see the Epiphone. I like seeing all the high-end guitars too, but where it sometimes chafes is when you're running a car's worth of guitar into budget gear. It's nice to kind of recalibrate the expectations now and then for the audience who's going to buy what's being presented.

I think they should do that more often as well. It's all well and good saying that this £200 guitar sounds excellent when you are running it through £6000 worth of gear but what does it sound like through the type of gear someone looking for a decent guitar in that price range would use.

I've had the MV50 AC for about a week and a half now, I absolutely love it. I'm running through a 10" ragin cajun right now, which isn't ideal for the AC sound. I have a Greenback-type speaker on the way, hopefully that gets closer to the traditional AC sound. I do wish they had the attenuator feature on the AC model, the power amp definitely compresses and distorts more when the master is cranked, so I use my Weber Mini Mass with this tiny little amp still lol.

Have you noticed any cutting out? I ran mine into my weber mass lite into the small 8 ohm speaker and it would cut out with the volume set at noon... I have MV50 AC waiting to try Boutique. I put it through a Jensen C12K same as Fender deluxe and hotrod II. Best sound is through Mooer Radar with Celestion Alnico blue IR sounds like ol AC30 then. i compared in the shop using same speaker to AC15 and could not tell the difference in that environment which I was the only person playing. I intend using wet/dry/wet with at least 2 of them and a Laney for drive.

Big fan of Epiphone guitars, big big fan of Epiphone Probucker pickups. And what can I say about Vox - they've been seriously into designing their solid state counterparts nearly as long as they have their tube amps, and not just throwing out some poorly assembled product like most other companies - they really want their solid state to sound as good, so this amp doesn't surprise me.

in reference to the 19V AC power supply. Not a problem. 19V is a very common laptop AC adapter. Can get them cheaply all over.

They should hook up the clean one to the Diezel VH4 pedal and see how it sounds!

That Epiphone Lee has really does sound sweet a number of times in this video. An affordable pairing that has some truly great tones in there.

Guys, it's probably a 16 ohm cabinet because it's 2 8ohm drivers wired in series. All you would have to do is rewire the two drivers in parallel, and you have a 4phm cab, getting the full 50 W. It's a 10 minute job to change this..

I don't know about anyone else but I think the clean one is the most popular because it has the best shouds I've heard throughout this video.

Wow, just wow... Vox made a little bundle of tone! I've ordered one after the demo, I just love how the Rock one sounds. Also, I'm thinking about getting a Clean one, I loved how it started to break up when you turned up! You guys rock! Thanks for these awesome demos and reviews, keep on rockin' ! \m/

19v fat barrel is typical of several laptop manufactures.( Dell and HP specifically ) Up to about 5ish amps is easily gotten ( around 100-120 watts ). it is the DIN style plug that is harder to get power supplies for as there are several different DIN sizes and pin configs.

Internal combustion engines are exactly like they were. Pistons, rings, valves, valve ports, rods, big ends, cranks, engine blocks, manifolds, spark plugs, air fuel mixture, need for oil etec etc. Maybe the ignition, fuel injection are different. I am of course talking about engines used for transportation. Look at the engines that won the American 1914 Indianapolis 500 mile race and see for yourself.

Oisin McPhillips He's probably trying to market them. It's kinda funny though. He's got a Custom Shop Les Paul, and he's playing an Epiphone.

I am sure it has been said a couple of times but, "Eco" shuts down the unit after a given amount of time not having input signal from a guitar. Some say 15 minutes, and others say as long as two hours. Either way, it shuts itself down after a period of time.

I'm very excited about the Nutube technology, and I'm planning to get one of the NBX150H heads that Vox demoed at NAMM 2017, as I've had too many tube amps fail on me to want to keep buying them/replacing tubes. With the exception of Kemper, there's not a solid-state amp which IMO can hold a candle to a proper tube amp, and if the Nutubes give you the tube sound with the robustness of SS amps, I'm sold (and without the pricetag of the Kemper).

I purchased a MV50 Clean. I am running it into a Friedman 1x12 cabinet. I am running a Friedman Brown Eye Pedal - TV HOF mini and a - Duncan Vapor Trails Delay. I purchased it really for curiosity. This damn thing is awesome. I have nice amps, Fender - Supro - Third Power etc.. but this thing is for real.
