I used one light mounted at 1.5 mt on a tripod facing straight, and configured a standalone area setup , floor height was set a 1 mt and i got a 360 tracking at constant turning speed, if the speed is fast there are jerks and we keep losing and gaining visual, the test was done for making games for wheelchair users and how it would behave on a turntable or motion platform. love your video keep up the good work mate....

I once after my vr session wanted to disconnect one of my base stations from the wall and it wasn't connected.. and I realized it works with one, I lost tracking in my hand a few times but thought it was due to low battery but that was the reason.. I'm actually surprised and quite glad that in case of one not working I have the other one

I've had to use a single lighthouse and the higher you can get it the better I've even had some moments when I could do a full 360° without much hassle But two is definitely best

Good experiment.. This should be a good way to quickly set up a seated experience. Can't wait to see the next experiment :)I would love to see an experiment showing how accurate the controls can be. Perhaps you could mount a probe on the controller and measure a few real world objects with known dimensions. VR touch probe scanning! Woohooo!!

Yes but can you do the setup with only one base station? When you have a broken base station, then you can't do the setup like in the video.

Very interesting, I'm in the process of re-doing my mounting setup for my lighthouses and currently only have one setup, I should try it out and see if I can get away with one well setup lighthouse and one just kind of sitting on a table. Based on this video it looks like that may not just work but work pretty decently. The Vive is an incredible piece of technology, but I think the real star of the show is these lighthouses, they are remarkably precise and I could seem them having more uses than just for VR, but it does spectacular at VR for sure. Great video!

That’s good to know. I am going to see if I can play sitting on my computer chair which worries me that it blocks the view of one base station. I broken my leg recently.

Test-request! I have to set up my room-scale-space in another room than where my pc is located. I will need 10 meter extension cables to do this. So, I was wondering wether you can get the Vive to run with a 10m active USB cable (10m hdmi cable should pose no problem). I heard from one tester that he didn't get it to work with an active usb extension cable. I would love to hear a second opinion.

This is great news. There will be a ton of games that should be played while sitting down (Oculus style) for which only one lighthouse should be perfectly fine. I was really worried about my (future) setup. For one, I will have to carry the lighthouses from one room to another all the time because I have one room with enough space for room scale and another room for sitting experiences (that's where my pc is). So I only have to take one lighthouse from room to room! And then there's another problem that seems to be solved by the one lighthouse solution. I have one of these Maxnomic racer chairs with a very high backrest. I was wondering if I had to get another chair because the backrest would have obstructed line of sight between the back-lighthouse and the vive. Thanks so much for the videos.

I love the video but what if you don't have another base station and you only bought 1 how do you setup it up because I can't I set the channel to A for single but it's not detecting anything

My lighthouse just broke and it didnt do anything it wrokrd with one but if you look in the direction of where theres nothing it goes blue and you see nothing we are getting a new one for free since even the fix was done and htc themselves gave us new one

My b sensor or base station went down,, wanting to try and order one, is there a way to change the letter or channel their on? The one that works is 'a' and b quit working, didn't kno if I had to find a b or if an "a" would work..

this is great to know I am thinking of getting a vive but i am mainly restricted to play games sitting down and I just want to play vrchat.

A lot of times you find on Ebay VR headsets with no controllers. (from sim racers) I want to as well. Can I do the set up without controllers? (WMR G2 headset)

Can we use it without base? Just for playing vr racing game so that the headset only didnt use controller at all?

VR Mythbusting: We know what happens if we don't place them like in the manual, but what happens if we don't have a room that could give the lighthouse a distance about 5 meters?

Does this also happen when you put the two lighthouses next to each other? Both facing you, both connected.

There was a recent notification that if you are using just a single lighthouse you should set it to channel A for better performance, did you leave them at the standard B and C for this video? I haven't tested it myself yet though.

could you have a mirror where the base station is disconnected pointing to the working one and have the mirror help would that be possible 🤔

I have both lighthouses mounted per the instructions in the top corners of the room. One I will call front left of the room and the other rear right. The one in the rear died on me, I guess the gyro or motor finally shit the bed. Buying a new base station is terrible at this point because they're still nearly 150 bucks, when I can get the full vive package for 500. I keep looking around for some way to repair it but I'm coming up empty. Good to know I can still play a few games that are mostly seated or don't require a lot of turning around.

Honestly if you only get 1 basesation and the tracking pucks with the rift, that would be a good experience

You cant have sensors on the straps, because they are not fixed to the headset and can move, making it pointless to put them there in the first place. The only solution to that would be having a one-piece HMD which resembled a helmet, which means no straps at all, just the helmet on your head. But I don't think that's a solution.

Vive is my favorite VR headset. It's like Wii, Kinect, and Oculus Rift had a baby. And just like Vive, your my favorite VR RU-vid channel. :)

If you were to put the single lighthouse on the ceiling and facing down, will it work?

I'm buying one base with my headset because I only plan and using it for head-tracking for Flying/Driving simulators. Hopefully it does the trick! I'll know in a couple of days if anyone else is curious.

To clarify some stuff: Lighthouse-> really stupid box which is then used to correct any drift the controllers IMUs might have. And the reason to put them high above ground is the same reason why you don't have your main light source for the room lighting on the floor you don't see much. (that and the fire hazard, well with LED's doesn't matter much nowadays)

Cool. Although, 0:10, the lighthouses contain Class 3B lasers. which probably is why the manual says to not get within 20 cm of them, to avoid the radiation. (At greater distances, you're only exposed to Class 1 radiation, which is safe).
