Great Videos 👍🏻I’m assuming That the axel weights on the plate are not just the load bot include the truck as well. The plate doesn’t state the unladen weight of the axels how do you know how much you can carry if you don’t know the weight of the vehicle itself?

Great video! Very clear and informative, thank you very much. I've subbed and hit the bell, and in due course will look into your channel further. 👍

Good afternoon. I have found your videos very informative as I am about to embark on my HGV class 1 training. However in this "episode" when the instructor was talking about the axle weights and showing the plate for the weights something has confused me that I hope you can set me straight on. The vehicle is an 18-tonne truck. Yet on the plate it shows, weight on axle 1, 7500 tonnes and on axle 2, 11500 tonnes. Total = 19000 tonne. Please explain. Many thanks. (Ps, subscribed).

Hi Chip! Thanks for your kind comments about our video service and a huge thank you for the subscription, every one really does make a difference! On the VTG6 plate you need to read the axle weights as individual weights as opposed to combining the two. The maximum gross mass of the vehicle in this case is 18 tonne so therefor you can not exceed that weight but you should also make sure that you do not overweigh any particular axle. You are correct in saying that if you were to load each axel to its maximum capacity you would then exceed the maximum gross mass and therefor it would be illegal to drive that vehicle on the public road. Hopefully that helps and if you have any questions then please do ask. Good luck with your venture into the LGV world!

What if the vehicle is equipped to tow (wagon and drag)?

I like this video, but maybe it's a good idea to mention where we can find the curb weight of the vehicle or its payload capacity. I know how to calculate the curb weight or payload capacity, but to do that we need to have two values: 1) MAM - curb weight = payload 2) MAM - payload = curb weight So, the question is, where can we find the curb weight or payload? Thank you.

Hi Leopold, as this is a guidance video for Module 4 Driver CPC candidates there is no requirement to have to explain to an examiner how to calculate payload or kerbside weight. The exercise is simply to show the examiner that you can demonstrate an understanding of how to identify where to find your maximum weights and to use this to then asses if your vehicle is overloaded.
