That looked like a pain in the ass!! Makes me wish I had a garage just in case I ever have to do anything with the motor out.

it's been almost 2 years. How is it holding up?

Hey, do you think I can do this while the motor is still in the car?

Thats the beauty of spline hub, dont even need to drop subframe or sump

I'm interested in doing the vtt hub on my 335 too how did you figure out the orientation of the hub and timing since it can be turned one way or the other before tightening

The hub orientation has no effect, as long as it’s in the crank straight and flush with everything, the tensioner will acomadate it as long as your cams and timed correctly

I have a crankseal protection plate for my 135i which I haven't installed yet. the one that goes behind the harmonic balancer. I only run 350hp stage 1+ though. This crankhub work is extra, for very high hp cars. i think bmw should make em that way from factory. Another aftermarket fix for their weak parts.

It's dumb we need crank seal protection plates to begin with... This motor is one of those very high HP cars thats already slipped an OEM hub once.

Did you use the bmw crankshaft pulley or you went with aftermarket?

Can the hub be replaced without taking out the engine?

Of course, I just needed to do more extensive work

Lol the good old crank bolt

Definitely recommend pinning the hub rather than the spline lock.
@BuiltInTheRain
@BuiltInTheRain 2 года назад
Please explain. Reason I went against pinned is that it acted as another shear point in my research.

@@BuiltInTheRain there's many 700whp-1000whp cars running different pinned hubs and its a pretty proven solution. I built a car using the spline lock and its an upgrade over oem but its extremely difficult to remove if ever need be I just don't believe is as strong of a fix as a 1 piece pinned hub. I run a pinned hub on my personal motor and haven't had any issues at pretty good boost levels.

@@bimmerfab that's amazing. Unfortunately I don't trust myself to install one, especially in my garage. How did you get yours installed?
