Why do people continue to do these loud intros. where you have to turn the sound down so it doesn't kill your ears with headphones then you have to crank it up again when the person starts talking?? That being said, thanks for the info. I really liked the review. It helped me to decide not to buy a Vulcan which I was leaning to.

Ive had mine for about 3 years now. I run 0.30 to 0.35 wire setup with 220 and gas. Its been a great welder. I've had 0 issues with it. After getting your heat and speed set right she's been pretty solid on every job I've used it on. I have a buddy who's over the welding dept for Tesco which is a maint contractor for the 2 main steel mills we have in our area use it and he loves it. Great welder for the money.

Do you think the heat problem on the gun has anything to do with running the shield cap without gas (if you are running flex core with the shield cap)? Seems like the gas would help cool the tip otherwise take off the cap and tape the threads to protect them?

@ Chuck Thomas, The locally manufactured Hobart is a better deal... Repair-Replacement Parts are probably much more available and easier to get a hold of as well... My guess is the materials in the Hobart are probably of much higher quality as well... Personally, so many of the users seem to stick with the Mig function only... Multi-process machines like this one that came from overseas seem to have low-quality materials and tend to fail in short times... Stick welders can be had for $250 and they work great... The cables from Your Hobart could be used with those stick-only units... I could not believe what he said about the stripped feeder cable casting, the main power switch arcing, and the Mig handle melting!!! Other people that have this POS saying that the input power plug and power cable Arcing & coming loose, cheaply made internal Chinese q/d plug issues to the Mig feed cable , and the Mig handle switch developing problems, says that these should NEVER have left from where they were slapped together... You did the RIGHT thing , by staying away from this machine...

Wow yours looks clean. I don't know why your gun is not holding up. We have been running an Omnipro 220 in a small manufacturing plant right alongside Millermatic 252s for almost 2 years. We replace liners about a third more often than the Millers and go through about the same amount of other consumables. When I sold the company and retired I purchased a new Omnipro 220 for my home shop where i make steel tables, work on my Jeep and pick up the occasional fab job. More than enough for a home fab shop

Given that you exchanged the unit once and got a glitchy unit with electrical problems in return, I would say that this is a brand/store to avoid. But then, most people who know the retailer also know what to expect from their knockoffs. For the current asking price, one is better off buying something made by Hobart.

I’m looking at getting into welding and was looking for an omni pro only bc I’d have the additional weld types if needed, but now I’m unsure of what I should get. I’m trying to stay under 1,500. What would you recommend? I also work at HB so I get a discount on anything in store so that would help a lot. That being said, I would rather pay more for quality over more features if this Vulcan doesn’t last more than a couple years. I’m looking for the Glock of welders lol
@TAShannon1

I've had a lot of HB welders. Both of the Chicago electric stick and Flux welders. I've also owned the titanium Flux 125 inverter welder as well as the titanium 140 mig inverter. The two Titanium welders stopped working after very little usage. The Chicago electric welders still work great however features suck. I'm afraid to spend 1100 on another HB welder. Makes me want to consider $2300 for the Miller. Thinking about just buying the vulcan omnipro 220 with a protection plan for once

I have personally not tried to save any settings but apparently you get like 5 memory settings per welding option on the unit, I’m not sure how it works but there is a way to save the current setting you are on and then recall that setting. But as I said we rarely weld the same material over here so we have not used the save feature so I am unsure on how well it works. I did a quick search and found this guy providing an example of how it works! I hope that helps! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5wN0gFdif5c.html

@michaelmartinez1345
@michaelmartinez1345 3 года назад
@ MrRICK244808, That is a issue here too, lack of availability... If HFT only carries a back-order stock of New kits, how much trouble would it be to get another one to replace a defective one, from a warranty? How about individual repair-replacement parts? Are they even available? Cheaply made with low quality materials.... I have heard about other issues that people have had with these... When dropping close to $1,300 on something, it better be able to keep working fairly easily, for longer than a couple of months... Those issues that he had with the Mig handle, feeder casting assembly, main power switch, and numerous other issues that other owners had with these machines, shows that they are maufactured VERY poorly, with stolen intellectual property and cheap materials... I would stay away from these... If one was given to me as a gift, I would sell it immediately, and use the $ to buy a LOCALLY manufactured machine... Preferably an analog-older machine that is still in good shape...

Your weld technique just needs to improve if your melting the gun on 2 different guns. I've used various brands(lincoln/miller/htp/harbor frieight) higher end mig guns are more durable but can run into the same issue if your technique is off. Also your tip is filthy, spray anti splatter on the new tip. I think a huge benefit to the vulcan is the extended warranty. No comparison. It's hard to pass up for the price. Also, I remeber talking to my rep(35 year experience) at Airgas and he wasnt encouraging lincoln or miller for a multiprocess rig. He did start talking about the omnipro and how impressed he was by it, as well as the warranty. I'm considering one for the truck for field work. The rig that I've heard about is the ESAB(ac/dc)rebel emp 205ic. That's my next big investment

BrodyBuilt MIG is a much cleaner process, it will pay for itself in the time you save cleaning up flux-core welds and the wire is cheaper too. Just a little more upfront for the tank. Also, get a big tank, it will last longer and refills are cheaper.
@tristinbrown877
@tristinbrown877 3 года назад
Not a super experienced welder here myself but I believe skrsys correct in that flux core does tend to heat up and damage those tips. If I remember correctly from some research I think they make interchangeable nozzles as the copper style is for gas mig and ceramic is for flux.

Good review but, too much money for that welder. What really bothers me about HF and other Chinese tool selling businesses is their lack of responsibility to sell parts for the welders. I purchase a 400 dollar mig gun and when asked the seller for parts they say search Amazon. If my machine goes out after a year that's it, no mother boards, transformer or any of the internal parts. That wire feed set up is what most 800 dollar and under have and those can be purchased off of Aliexpress. I can't understand why that welder wouldn't have a standard mig torch lead, most are the Euro style or the normal straight pin that locks into your feeder. I going to review the one that I have but, next time I'll spend 1k and buy a Everlast that had a 5 year guarantee and parts available.

The HFT near me have these now for $1,049.99 , that's almost $1,140 after 8.5% sales tax... Add another $120 for an extended warranty, and you're now closing in on $1,300 . Nice welder, but for another $450, One could buy a New comparable Lincoln or a Miller... And parts CAN be ordered for either of those, from readily available sources here in the U.S.... HFT is beginning to PRICE themselves out of the market with their equipment, like this... Heck, I have seen a used Miller Analog machine that's in good shape, with a better ground clamp, better Mig handle, a better stinger for stick, an argon regulator & hose, self-darkening hood, thick gloves, all for around $750 cash... Locally available Parts to repair the Locally manufactured machines ARE readily available for them as well... Sometimes, it pays to accept some used marks & nicks, that You'll end-up putting on the new machine anyways... I really LIKE the older equipment anyways, as they were made to last so much longer... What he had to say about the cheap construction of the Mig handle on this machine, makes me wonder how much of the rest of the machine will end-up failing, from using cheap parts & materials to manufacture them...
