cast silence on the rogue to keep him in the combat, ice cube to block aim shot with perfect timing, lvl1 frost bolt to slow down the rogue because of shorter casting time and lower mana cost, as you can see, Vurtne's gear was subpar, and his mana depleted several times against multiple opponents. And ofc engineering gadgets with timing, not to mention taking advantage of the surrounds i.e. line of sight, intentional aggros to break blind, I bet not many people understand what's going on in the video, and even if you do,few could duplicate. And back in the day, he was the first ever to use these tactics, he proved to ppl gears dont matter. And he basically reinvented world PVP.
Hao Liu Point is, u're saying bullshit man. This is pretty much basics nowadays and u're saying random shit like "not many people understand what's going on" etc.
I once whispered Vurtne two, with something like " sorry to bother you bla bla, sorry again" He replied : " If you think weak of yourself others will to" 10 years later i never forgot that.
I had vurtne on my MSN. He was my inspiration in playing mage. And I have achieved 13 gladiator titles ever since. I asked lots of tips from him regarding video editing since I was self learning as a hobby. Oh well. Good old times.
All of you who think that he pwned newbs is true...but the game was like what, 2 years old at the time? He started playing it around the same time everyone else did. In such short time he managed to achieve everything what some ppl cannot even get up to this day.His imagination creativity and enterteinment were flawless and legendary. This is something you cannot get by skill but to be born with it. All i think is that he was the right man playing the right game at the right time with the right class. Forever an ispiration. And yes its better for him not to come back, this is how true legends end up, not getting spoiled by youtube whoring views or giving away stuff for likes money etc. I'm happy to see those videos from time to time.
Vurtne... The best and most skilled player of all time (World wide) on any kind of MMORPG video games. He was the first to brought up such skills and his thoughts were insanes. The term "Thinking outside the box" was invented shortly after his first release, and since then he was offered by Blizzard the title "Insane Gladiator" however he refused to the fact that he wasn't doing it for any sort of title but for self-enjoyment. Vurtne, Undead Mage. The best Mage of all time and will remain until the next Big Bang. At the moment he is fighting against ReckFul and Laintime in the abyss and giggling at them. He lost both of his hands, he play with his mind. Grand Supreme Insane Gladiator, Vurtne.
It's an old video. It's a video where you can literally count the pixels. But my god, it's a GOAT video of one of the greatest mage that played vanilla. It's a damn shame that Blizz didn't give him an NPC like they did with Swifty and the others in WoD.
We all copied copied Vurtne. I remember him as the first elemental pvp mage. This of course was also due to the shatter patch, but maybe he was already doing it before, (I can't remember). But yeah, for instance the way he used nades and trinkets was next level. Then his mage tricks: counterspell rogues to keep them in combat. Blocking on a death coil or instant pyro. Sheeping people to break spell casts or force dismount. Blinking right behind people to LoS. Level 1 frostbolts to slow, or level 1 blizzard and fireballs (against cloaks) to save time and mana. I mean, these things were around, but a lot of them he either invented or popularized. Even looking at the video for the 30th time I discover new things, like his insane independant camera and movement work. All these things wrapped up in an immensely funny, well edited, clever movies. To me this guy will always remain a genius, or an artist.
Yes the stuff hes doing isn't amazing for today's standards. BUT, he was doing this 15 years ago, when noone else was. It's hard to prove that he invented the things hes doing, but theres certainly an argument for it. While literally EVERYONE else was clicking their spells, backpeddling and generally having no clue how to play their class - this guy was playing like this and dominating. If you play like him now, it's because you've watched someone whos a copy of someone who is a copy of someone who learned from watching Vurtne videos. You best recognise, and have some respect.
Writer Shard The style of editing from Vurtne is beyond amazing for his time, and the quality of play is INSANE if you look at the average during the time he played.
The fight at 10:33 was so ahead of its time, coldsnap+iceblock the deathcoil, and then blink behind to prevent the warlocks cast, the fact that this was made in 2005 is insanity
you couldnt even beat me on a 60 nathan, nevermind him. you would get a jolly good spanking, if you accept the challenge then hit me up when your 60 on the nostalrius realm and we can dance
real wow? you wanna fight for 3 mins so i die of boredom? we are talking about vanilla here pleb. you are specifically saying hes shit, so why dont we see if you can beat ME, before u start calling him shit
game looks like so much fun back then, much more story written by player self,i love vurtne, thank you for your skill showing, you make always my day better when i watch,i miss those days when no one knew sh1t man it was simply epic, only love to everyone
GREETINGS YEE OF WHO STILL THINKETH YEE ARE YOUR PHYSICAL BODY UNDERSTAND AND KNOW THAT YEE ARE MUCH MORE AS YEE ARE A CREATION FORCE WITHIN YEE AS ALL HAVE THE SAME BEGINNING FROM FORM TO FORMLESS LIMITLESS WE ARE ALL ONE
Oh man that was the best time ever. Cuz of him i rerolled mage and i got all vids on my pc just cuz of the music running the hole day to pvp. He was the one inspired me stay and play wow! This guy is amazing
I played a Nelf Warrior in vanilla on Sylvanas. I hated this guy lol, he wouldnt leave me alone in Tyrs Hand, i was trying to farm for my epic mount. Since late vanilla ive been playing a mage myself. I guess he inspired me lol.
Look at everyone's skill lvl when the game first came out. He is clearly knowledgeable enough to advance his skill to that lvl in a short period of time. A legend ofc, never trash. If he still played today people he would of had YEARS to master new content. A lot of the moves like r1 frost bolt and using engineering literally came from this guy and carried all the way throughout wrath. Even used in arena. He's an inventor like how reckful created the sub build for wrath and hydra the disc. So quit arguing, one of the best to ever live. He edited hydras movies too and some of a lot of others which is why wow movies are the way they are. He is a master editor too not just a player. Gtfo he's clearly the best mage ever and first winner of wcm best player of all time when blizzard sponsored them.
I doubt that he edited hydras movies, and I also doubt that he got sponsored by Blizzard (LIKE WTF!) He did edit drakedog 9(?) But yeah he was way ahead of all others, rank 1 casts not only frostbolts, also fireballs to keep rogues in fight with the dot that does 1-2 dmg, most people cant understand what was special about mages/pvp in vanilla!
People never mention the fact there were no cast bars or pvp add ons to get to detect stealth or nearby players ect. He didn't know what spells he was CSing save for their elements, he was at least horde and didn't suffer from shaman casting hearthstone to bait CS but otherwise he was still playing it by sight alone. Vurtne has the reflexes, the reaction time, the creativity, and was a pioneer in pvp tactics and mage play.
so much charm no matter the years. the pro's were the ones who didn't keyturn back in the days. if you keyturned you were probably one of the many who avoided STV.
Vurtne's videos are all entertaining as fuck, but I think 4 is my favorite if not simply for the end when Three Days Grace comes on. It fits the clips perfectly and I can't really say exactly why, but it's my favorite part of any mage pvp video ever made to this day.
I guess most people won´t see/know what happens at 12:46.... sure he cast a fireball on a rogue... ohh how awesome. Yeah it was a rank 1 fireball to keep the rogue infight so he cant vanish thanks to the dot! Smart guy! Also the meele attacks he does on any caster through all his videos, its not just for the lulz, pushback is the keyword, same with the wand, that shit was strong even back in bc even wotlk if i remember correct! I learned so many things from the videos he put out back in the day even a simple counterspell on a rogue who vanished to get him visible again...or on any warrior so he cant charge you, ohh good old days! THAT DUDE WAS A GOD BACK THEN! And someone here in the comments already said it, most players right now, know shit about all that shit we see here!
Vurtne was a trailblazer for many people. Like Laintime, they were legends for their time and as such should be placed on the pedestal for what they did back then against their peers.
granted that it wasnt the most balanced state of the game, but it was in a state of the game that every class had 1shot mechanics and most fights didnt really last long. so for him to take on so many ppl is pretty sick, i see vurtne as a pioneer to the mage class and i think that he came up with stuff that ppl take for granted today
Thank you for clarifying that up for me. Wasn't sure on the Dungeon set, but I can see clearly now that the chest he's using IS indeed Magister's and not Sorcerer's/Arcanist's due to the color. It looks like he's using pre-R11 gear however.
I love how every spell had an impact back then. You relied on everything you had, as opposed to the 2-3 spells you constantly spam nowadays, because everything else has become obsolete with the amount of health people have.
Haven't seen these old gems in a while. Truly a person ahead of his time when it came to gameplay and tactics. I think it's sad though, watching paladins never use blessing of freedom vs mages
I am Vanilla fan but I am glad blizzard removed Engineering as PVP profession. It was nearly impossible to kill Frost Mage with engineering profession in world pvp. That's why we have World PVP videos with engineering spec mages in it. Great respect to Otherguy who didn't use Frost Spec+Engineering to dominate!
Have you seen Voidim's videos? He actually pvp-ed in BG, which was harder than world pvp(where mages were Gods). He kills good geared warlocks 1 vs 1. Push trinkets, Frost Nova+Bomb+(counterspell succubus)+frostbolt+Pom Frostbolt+cone of cold+fireblast. This was on average 6000 damage. 4000 damage on a Soul Link on warlock.
It was also for the actual hardcore players, it was a lot harder and you had to dedicate much much more time to get your gear ... but the social aspect of the game was way better and you would make much more friends back then because there was no "dungeon finder" or "raid finder" like there is now. Plus the gear sets were amazing
Soilwork - light the torch 3 Days Grace - Riot Escape The Fate - There's No Sympathy For The Dead 3 Days Grace On My Own Regards the naked dancing lvl 3 gnome at 12:51. I remember the chat when vurtne wiped that guild on emeriss or what dragon it was, haha priceless
I spoke to him on vent few times, he still active it's just that he doesn't really do much of arena or anything that is competitive. But he still pwn's people quite hard :).
@Sorcky19911 Still my favourite PVP Video of all time. The play was original, but it's his style... I can't put my finger on it, but he moves differently to any other mage. It is just fun to watch. He makes you want to play the game and that is the biggest compliment I can give.
He has pre-r11 gear, sorry I didn't clarify for someone who doesn't know what a generalization is. If you read the comment I said DUNGEON SET/T1. I skip intros in every video because they mean nothing for the overall quality, so obviously I fucked up and skipped over the gear. I never said it was "unbalanced", I said that it's not the most skillful. a) I barely focused on PvP. b) This doesn't make any sense. c) It's still like that. As for calling me "Cata Fag":S3/S4/S5/S6/S8/S9/S11 Glad.
That still doesn't take away from his greatness. He was an anomaly. The majority of players who raped back then were geared well. But that was the only reason. He actually understood how to play.
Well, Frost Mages were Gods of World PVP back then. Also engineering was very OP in pvp. So basically Frost Mage+Engineering was enough to beat 2-3 players of same skill/different classes.
