Making chain guides out of brittle plastic, what could possibly go wrong? 😂 A great job sir and a really interesting watch, I had a similar job done recently on my 1.4 TSI. Chain had jumped but by some miracle no bent valves… had it overhauled in the end due to damaged ring lands and worn oil control rings on the pistons.

I know poor design isn’t it. Always seems to be the guides. Yeh I’ve been lucky with a few engines like that

Hey, great job and great video... thanks for posting! Quick question - just about to do same job and cant figure out how to remove crankshaft sprocket? How do you hold whilst undoing the centre bolt? Seen various tools for this but all seem to relate to pulley for belt, not sprockets for chain.
@tomcollicott3680
@tomcollicott3680 6 дней назад
Hmmm. maybe Ive figured this out. Looks like the same bolt holds the pulley outside the chain cover, and the crankshaft sprocket inside the casing. So after setting the timing, you have to replace the chain cover without the centre bolt holding the crankshaft sprocket??? Does it just rely on the little lug on the back of the sprocket to stop it rotating??

wow just wow amazing job with that. Quite convenient I actually have this exact issue and need this job done to my car as well VW Golf mk6 1.4 TDI engine as well. Looks like it took you quite a while. What do you reckon they would charge me at the shop for this job? I would take it on myself if I had a drive or garage but lots of tools needed to purchase I'm just a novice
@themobilemechanic1992

Depending on the garage would imagine £1,500 ish. But a garage would likely just advise to replace then engine

So how did u install the intake runner flap? flap up with something to hold it in that position? as i have a error on mine "stuck open" and can you pls provide the steps for adaptations BLG engine code.
@themobilemechanic1992
@themobilemechanic1992 Месяц назад
Ah you’ve probably tightened it down on the flaps, just take it back off make sure they are not bent and on the side pull the actuator in as you place it onto the block that will prevent getting them stuck

30:20 Erm, no. These engines you need to measure the TDC with a scope in the cylinders to time them correctly, otherwise it aint gonna last long 😂 But sure for other engines its the way to go!

But good thing getting it running again. I am guessing the costumer was on a budget, so still better than not having a car

Thanks for the feedback Daniel, after doing 100’s of these and checking with a DTI gauge after, I found every single one bang on so I tend not to use it unless I’m unsure which would be rare. Everyone’s got there own way of doing things though 🤙🏼
