Recently changed the oil pump, and got a New Pan. Only $22, free shipping. I used last one too many times to jack up engine, change starter, for instance. I found a New oil pan gasket with built in baffle, to take oil off rotating assembly. $24, which is not far off new Gasket only. Great for Highway cruising. Says on eBay wouldn't fit, but I bought and bolted up by itself and rotated crank, little prying here and there no problems. Could have been bent in shipping. Is for multiple I-4 engines. Much better throttle response! Also bought ground wire kit, different lengths with built in Eyes. Extra grounding for Head, alternator, block to chasis, 8 wires, $10. Great Job Thomas! Thumbs Up from my Kitty.

The German engineers wanted to make sure that pan didn’t leak with 20 bolts. At least you didn’t have to worry about a crossmember underneath it. Owners should know the importance of oil changes, but I guess some will never learn. 😀👍

Caught just in time before some major failure... I had a b6 Passat brought to me few years ago to replace the turbo due to the oil pick up strainer clogged up, the oil pressure light came on and the customer carried on driving, 600 yards later boom the turbo was gone ... 👍

hi i am having trouble removing that back hex bolt can you tell what size i need as i cannot get anything on it
@EXOVCDS
@EXOVCDS 3 года назад
As can be seen at 0:15 of the video... the oil pan bolts are 10mm hex head bolts. The bolt head also has a place for a 5mm Allen / Hex bit... which was mentioned at 0:54 to 1:10 of the video.

Just not far off doing that in my drive way now. Ish Red line busted on me the other day got it fixed finally went to the gas station and fill up gas on the way home and gave me the light I guess in between the heat differential from losing fluid and minorly it may have loosened up some of the carbon just letting go clogging the pick up filter and maybe the filter itself yay for starvation already check the top and re-RT beat it with the existing metal grommets that came with the eggs pass gasket figured it was a smart way to go about doing soffit gas getting with those spacers giving a stop me from over tightening

I think I'm gonna have to do this to my car soon. When. I start up and don't let it run a minute when it's cold, the engine will make a little knock for a few seconds. It never does it when I'm restarting warm, only first start. Unfortunately for my car there is a cross members I have to remove, 2002 passat 1.8t. Thanks for video Thomas.

Hi Mike... in all the years that I have been posting videos, I'm surprised that I never got a chance to record & post a B5 oil pan video. Yeah, you'll have to lower the subframe while keeping the engine supported from above. It's not too bad of a job... just be sure that you raise the vehicle high enough and stable enough, so that you can work safely under it. Have someone start the engine while you have your head over the engine... is the knock coming from the top end or the bottom end of the engine? Could be the chain tensioner that is rattling for a few seconds. Somewhat common when they get old / higher mileage. In that case, you won't have to deal with the oil pan removal... although, it's not a bad idea to check the oil pick up tube screen for debris.
@Janet_Airlines802
@Janet_Airlines802 3 года назад
@@EXOVCDS it's only on a cold start, usually first start of day, if I let it run a minute it doesnt do it. It's hard to describe I'm not sure knock is the best description. It only does it for a few seconds, it's a knock/rattle noise. If I start and drive and don't take off real slow and press the gas a little bit it will do it, not all the time though
@EXOVCDS
@EXOVCDS 3 года назад
The engine turns pretty quickly (even at idle)... a single or a couple of knocks might be more of a suspension issue / sound? Especially if the noise only happens once you start moving. If it were engine related, you'd think that it would do it standing still and revving the engine. If it's an automatic, load the engine by stepping on the brake pedal, put it in drive and give a bit of gas... do the same in reverse. The engine wil "torque" one way as it is loaded in drive, and it will torque the other way in reverse... engine mounts / transmission mounts & suspension components will be "loaded / stressed" an if something is "worn / loose", you'll be able to recreate the noise multiple times.

No gasket. Aftermarket gaskets might be available, but not needed when a good quality sealant is used & applied correctly.

Average "view time" is 2:40 minutes (according to youtube stats) for my videos. I'm not gonna spend twice as much time editing showing assembly, when a 20+ minute disassembly video isn't watch from beginning to end. The manual really does say that after every disassembly... those who complain obviously don't have a manual (or else they would be aware of that fact). =)

Great video! I have a question issue might be related to oil pump. I own a 2001 gti 1.8t while getting on the interstate car stalled just before stalled the oil light blinked 3 time and died. I pull to the side tried to started didnt start. I have changed the fuel pump, ecu and relays. I checked fuses didnt find any blown fuses. Checked timming and seems to be good. Any ideas what could be the issue? Could a bad oil pump or oil pressure switch cause the car to stall or not to turn on?
@EXOVCDS
@EXOVCDS 3 года назад
Does the engine actually turn over when the starter is trying to turn the engine? If the starter is not turning the engine, then the engine is seized. Oil pressure / lack of oil pressure will not prevent the engine from starting... unless the engine is seized (from lack of oil pressure). Can you post a video on your channel so that I can hear what the engine is doing while you are trying to start it? If you checked timing (I assume cam / crank alignment), then you were probably able to turn the engine / crankshaft by hand... so the engine is probably not seized. Do a compression test to rule out a mechanical issue. Changing ECU would require matching the ECU to the immobilizer (engine will run for 1 to 2 seconds then die otherwise).
@aztecachichimeca7881
@aztecachichimeca7881 3 года назад
@@EXOVCDS I uploaded the video showing the engine is turning. The the reason I thought it was a computer problem because Im unable to connect to obd2 I tried 4 different scanners and nothing. On the instrument cluster I dont have the check engine light or the EPC light it doesnt appear at any time.
@EXOVCDS
@EXOVCDS 3 года назад
@@aztecachichimeca7881 First.. charge the battery (it sounds like the engine is weak to turn over). The ECM "power supply relay" is next to the brake fluid reservoir, in a black plastic container that has a cover that pops off. There are 2 relays... relay 428 is for the ECM.

Hopefully this one will be better cared for, oil and filters are cheap in comparison to a new engine, but people don't learn, silly buggers lol.
