To use the factory subframe for my 944 1.8T conversion, I need to modify the oil pan to make clearance. Here's how to do it, and also how to add an extension to gain that volume back.
Do you also share the cad file of the metal plate? I am building a 1,8 20vt (APU) into a porsche 931 (924 turbo). It currently has a bad engine and parts are hard to find. So the easiest way is doing a 1,8t swap :). Using the file so I have the correct measurements for changing the oil pan would help a lot.
The Motorwerks people keep the original oilpan in their conversions right? They use a modified Engine Subframe... wasn't that an option for you? Looks like you could easily manage the engineering/construction of such a thing! And I think keeping the original oilpan may have some advantages! For connecting the transaxle/belhousing/clutch and the motor you want to use their adapter/flywheel kit... it's pretty pricy...and out of stock for a few weeks! Or will you come up with your own solution! I am very exited to see what happens next in the 944/1.8T built!
In my opinion, the oil pan modification is a simpler solution than a new subframe and engine mounts. The precision required to keep the control arms in the right place, and the expense of the material for a sub frame are greater than modifying a $35 oil pan.
@@vsvenson Hello Van, I am doing one of these swaps right now and I am curious about what happens with the bottom three transmission bolts that runs through the stock aeb oil pan, what did you do there? Thanks Andrew.
