I am installing the rebuilt transaxle and engine on my 71 VW Beetle Buddy. The process is pretty simple and can be done in generally under an hour complete.
Rebuilt transaxle from www.MrGasRebuilds.com
Lots of parts from www.JBugs.com www.WolfsburgWest.com www2.Cip1.com and www.DuneBuggyWharehouse.com

This video helped. I have a '69 Beetle, the old engine is out and have a remanufactured 1600 DP to install. I have the ATV Lift like yours. I also lack the Captive Nut..like yours. I've been worried about getting the nut onto the bolt and now you offer a way to do it. I was also worried about being able to jack it up high enough for the fan shroud to clear the apron, but it looks like the spare on the Jack will do the trick, too. Thanx!

I’m so glad this helped! To be fair I learned the spare tire trick from someone else, don’t even remember who. The ATV lift is a piece of brilliance I saw somewhere else as well. The long wrenches are probably the biggest help in all of this. I hope it goes well for you.

@@Misunderstoodboygenius Yeah, I was able to install the new engine this week. It didn't go as smoothly as yours, But it worked out in the end. My first time and largely by myself. Thanks, again.

wow, Mr Gas has some great deals on rebuilt transmissions

He builds a quality product too. Known for his race transmissions but I wanted bulletproof, and he delivered.

Thanks! It needs to come out again. My genny is cocked wrong and my oil splash plate under the filler is wrong. I need to paint to so I’ll be taking the whole thing apart again.

Not sure what my favourite thing is with my beetle, but ease of working on it, particularly removing the engine, is certainly a highlight... awesome cars!

20 minutes is my record, but with 2 people probably could do 10-15

@@Misunderstoodboygenius that’s impressive... I’ve only done it once to-date, but it was just over an hour by myself... most of that time was documenting where everything goes, and struggling to get the car high enough (failed to think about taking the tire off)

Outstanding Video!!! I have been using semi auto stick starters for more torque. Your engine sounds really good!!

Thanks Slade. This one still uses the bushing, but it's 50% larger than a standard Beetle starter. and yeah, this engine is running so good!

Do you have to come back and retighten anything and readjust the valves again after driving it for a while and breaking in your top end work?
@Misunderstoodboygenius
@Misunderstoodboygenius 4 года назад
I’m going to. I’ll check the valve clearance, and make sure everything is still ok. I’ll also check the engine mounting bolts to see if the engine has settled into the transmission any further. Just for my own peace of mind.

@@Misunderstoodboygenius after struggling and cussing for what seemed like hours, I got the two bottom studs in and put an extra long bolt in the top and cranked it down until it finally lined up and “popped” in. Got to be an easier way! 🤣
@vayabroder729
@vayabroder729 3 года назад
Exactly; it takes some finagling and maneuvering with the angle until it pops in. It also helps if you grease the tip of the transmission input shaft; helps the gland nut bearing slide it.

Hi, I just bought a motorcycle lift after seeing your vlog, I have a question. What is the maximum lift height on your motorcycle lift? Mine is only 370mm, however I guess I can use some wood to get it higher if I have to.
@Misunderstoodboygenius
@Misunderstoodboygenius 3 года назад
I’d have to look. But I have to use some wood sometimes just to get things to sit right.

Where did you place the Forward jack to safely lower the car and keep it level?
@Misunderstoodboygenius
@Misunderstoodboygenius 3 года назад
I put it right in the middle just ahead of the front trans mount. I actually use the spare on top of the floor jack so the tire is against more of the body to distribute the load.
