Oh geez!! My apologies, but I actually did confuse myself lol those nicknames are very close. IT WAS YOU! And I do appreciate your advice! This getting older thing is not very much fun lol
@@SladesVWBeetle No problem. I got confused also. Sometimes other members post same/good comments on how to fix things. Glad to pass the wisdom/experience on to others.🙂
You're the encyclopedia Britannica of the VW community of the interwebs.. I feel smarter already. I'm gonna say another smart thing...." Great informative video" Keep them coming👍🇩🇪
Glad you covered this. Although I have a drive plate on my autostick super beetle, I am glad you took the time to show each step clearly. I'm having to fabricate special metal pieces to lock the driveplate to the engine so I can torque it down, wish me luck! Always great watching your channel on how to do stuff, thanks.
And also, thank you for taking out the time to leave a comment, I truly appreciate that. You got this, my friend, think, confident, and move forward slowly.
i just did mine. I bought the torque converter which made my life so much easier. the tool made it so easy that i had a hard time believing that the gland nut is torqued to 250 ish ftlbs.
Right?!?! I should probably do a dedicated video to this tool, some more people know about it. Honestly it has saved my butt, while trying to get some cranky drum nuts loose.
This series is great Timing Mr and Mrs Slade Bess has a striped spark plug while I've got the head off I'm going too get new barrels and Pistions Top end rebuild First time I've had the Motor out of Bess your tips have come in handy already Thank you my friend
I’m glad it’s helpful Brian! The heads are getting new valves put in, wish he would’ve let me do those for the videos lol we’re going to the salvage yard this week, me and Heather. So in a couple of weeks I will continue putting the engine back together on video.
Great detailed video Mr Slade. I had to chuckle when you said you forgot to press the play button.... If something's going to go wrong, it's when a dang camera is involved 😂
Right? That’s not my first rodeo with doing that. One time I forgot to hit the record button, half hour went by. I then realized I had to take everything back apart and do it all over again lol
Thanks my friend! We are going Thursday or Friday, that video will be up the following week. Hopefully Heather doesn’t try to bring anything home. 🤦🏼♂️
I've been following your series with the idea of pulling my engine to work on the heater boxes and install the engine tins (that were not on when this beetle was purchased). I was happy to see the blue mount on your engine stand. I am planning on purchasing a stand and use the bench stand mount with it for the space to work on the flywheel if I chose to do that.
I bought my engine stand at harbor freight. Since beetle engines are really not that heavy. The only thing I regret is I didn’t buy the four-legged stand.
@@styverdyver Yes, that’s exactly my concern. I will go with a four legged one next, and probably give this one to somebody. There’s nothing wrong with it, but I do a lot of awkward stuff lol
Thanks Slade --- You mentioned you didn't like the three shims you took out --- what was wrong with them? --- You put them back in --- I've heard you say before that there will always be THREE SHIMS ---- If two or four gives you the three to five thousandths that is needed for the end play? ------ Snow and nineteen degrees ------ Rodney
Honestly I was just being picky, they had a couple of scuffs on them. So I’m kind of strange like that. I have read it in many places, where you always want three. You never want more, or less. I read it in so many manuals that it’s stuck in my brain
I didn’t take it as hating, I appreciate you leaving a comment. I’m not the type of guy that gets upset over stuff like that. Truthfully you are right, but when I say the front then everybody gets all confused lol thanks for being here.
Thank you Dan I truly appreciate that. If they deep well with change it, it would have to be very slight. Not enough to worry about. When you start using extensions, that’s when it changes it a lot more.
What is the exact purpose of the 3 shims? And what is the danger of reinserting then not in the exact order in which they were removed? What is the typical life span of a rear main seal?
Slade, you have been my life saver of my 73 Supper Beatle. However, the engine and I have come to an impasse. I cannot for the life of me get the flywheel gland nut off. I've broken my breaker bar and pipe and can't get it to come loose. I'm really reluctant to put any air tools on it, because I don't want to damage the crank. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful.
Nothing changed my mind, you can use either one. I like the dielectric grease because it doesn’t corrode the rubber which you already know that from me repeating myself. But I need a new tube of the dielectric grease
One last thing to my earlier comment --- since you have a 250 Ft; Lb. torque wrench -- have you ever followed up and double check the Torq multiplier and your standard torque wrench to see if there is a difference in torque between the two?- Rodney
Funny you brought that up my friend. I should have put that on video. I didn’t think to, so that will be a good shorter video that will be consistent five minutes maybe. I will tighten up with the torque multiplier, then use my torque wrench with the needle, and then use my clicker torque wrench. And we will compare notes. Good idea Rodney.
