I needed to change/clean the automatic transmission filter in my 1973 VW Bus with a Subaru 2.2L engine conversion. The trans has happily been trucking away but I drive this bus HARD so I want to keep up on the maintenance. At over double the horsepower in the engine, the trans get some a workout.

Would love to swap a Subaru engine into an automatic bay. Which EJ engine is easiest/best for that application? Don’t have the space to buy a full donor car unfortunately

I would say any of the EJ series would work great. The Bay automatic doesn’t have a transmission cooler so that’s the only challenge vs. the Vanagon.

Busaru Thanks for the quick reply! I was looking at JDM engines, is getting ecu/wiring a problem? I was actually looking at adding a cooler to the transmission as well!
