Isn’t it nice to finesse things into proper alignment and have it work out. Great to watch. Who knew the sound of vise grips could be so musical?!!

Absolutely great work, Sir. But a suggestion, when you do some bending or hemming, put additionally some body adhesive inbetween the bending sheets, e.g. Sika. Takes a little more time, but it is a perfect rust protection.

Glideking, I want to say I totally agree it is a passion/love for our work!! not too just rip and tear thru as fast as You can. quality and pride makes all the difference . Too bad its becoming a thing of the past .If more people were proud of there work we would not be living in a throw away/dispozal world and there would not be all the damn recalls and faulty products!! You should be proud to be a real Craftsman!! take care,bob

If you use a block of brass for your backing instead of steel. You don't have to worry about the weld sticking to it.

I think this is the video where I though "Dang, he's really going precise on this", and I tried not to let this new intimidating realisation that I'd want to try for the same sort of perfection override the inspiration that these videos and your thread has given me so far...
@glideking
@glideking 7 лет назад
It did not start out that way. I just wanted to fix my truck. As I learned how to do things, like welding; doing a better job of it became fun.Perfection is always out of reach.

Nah that's what I figured, and for me I reckon I'm going to end up doing a similar thing - I have a 66 bus which needed a new cab floor, but then I've poked at a couple of bubbles on the front panel and found a couple of little holes. I wanted to avoid having to remove the valance and do any nose repair (I've got a '67 single cab that needs all that), but I know if I was to do a localised repair of the holes I'd end up having to do it over and over again until I had to do it the proper way anyway...

loved following your resto sir, what setting did you use on your MIG welder when doing all the sheet metal work, I have never welded on anything less then a 1/4 inch so I need practice before I start doing body panels on my 65

I use the settings listed on the machine. Learn about "stitch welding" for sheet metal.

Saw your video of replacing the front nose on your split window. My question is, how is the quality and fit from Klassicfab and were you happy with the turn around shipping time? Thank you, Emil

Love your videos sir, I myself am about to remove my front nose up to the halfway point that splits the headlights. I saw that you did not drill out the the spot welds on the pinch seam on the door side of the nose. My question to you is can you do that with the lower pinch weld seam of the nose? Id rather not drill them out if I dont have to because my inner and outer valance are in good shape and will not be removing them. Thanks Kyle
@glideking
@glideking 8 лет назад
+Kyle Fegley Grind off the edge of the pinch and wiggle the two halves off. The spot welds will break off one at a time.

glideking yes I did, now if you asked me, did I go through the entire thread? No I did not.... I made it to about page 8 last night. I thought it was weird when I watched the video and you were talking about how great of a fit the nose skin was you didn't mention where it came from.

what´s that song at 17.00 ?
@glideking
@glideking 7 лет назад
Side four of the "White Album", "Honey Pie" was written by McCartney as a pastiche of the flapper dance style from the 1920s. The opening section of the track had the sound of an old 78 RPM record overdubbed while Martin arranged a saxophone and clarinet part in the same style. Lennon played the guitar solo on the track, but later said he hated the song, calling it "beyond redemption".

great job but, I am going to ask you a tough question. Are you building this for someone else in the next lifetime or are you ever going to drive it. Most of you guys doing such perfect work are never going to drive your car. Also when you welded the nose around the wrapped edges the original was around a 1/4 inch on center spot weld. I would have used panel bonding adhesive as well as welding on the wrapped edges of the skin instead of rust primer. This would do the dual purpose of adding strength and stopping corrosion. Looks like good work though. I can bet you will be one of the guys that has that till his grave burns out because of doing it so perfect and never drives it.
@glideking
@glideking 8 лет назад
+miguel thepainterdude I have plenty of vehicles to drive. You miss the point altogether. We do these restorations to be doing it. Not to have a finished car. This is a hobby for us "guys". I do not look forward to the day it is "finished". There will always be something to improve on it. If or when it is finished, the hobby is over and we will have to start another.
