Actually it doesn't even need to be the same transmission! I put a manual 1.8t ecu with the cluster and key into a automatic 1.8t and it started up just fine. Witch was a good thing because I did it for this guy that had a Freind mess up his dash cluster after he fixed his breaks he got the wrong ones so the break light was still flashing so he tryed to RIP out the led light for the breaks and the cluster wouldn't read the key anymore so he paid me to put in a new cluster ecu and key and he forgot to tell me it was an auto transmission, I didnt think it would work but he says it runs great!

Do you know how to clone a cluster or have a idea on how to fix a dead instrument cluster for a 03 jetta tdi manual. My cluster died 4 days ago and I only have the one car. Would really like some help or feed back. Thank you.

My exact thoughts, just desolder eeprom from old and put on new, since that'll contain vin, mileage, etc

Cluster holds key and immobiliser data Ecu holds immo data which is paired to the cluster without them matching it won't start

Odis may start the car but it will not change the milage

@@vehix411 of course Odis will Change the mileage it’s reading and writing everything mate including mileage.
