Greetings from Germany, since the University is sucking in all my Money, i have to do a lot more by myself. This video helped me a lot and its very kind of you, to take your time to help other people.
Thanks for your videos bro.... never had the confidence to do any of this on my own until my accident... now im watching all your videos and taking care of my gti the proper way!! greetings from the states!
Hi, I just got a 1999 1.6 Mk4 VW Golf for my daughters birthday. She will be getting her licence in April. So, just a quick note to say thanks for your videos. They will be a great help in the next few weeks doing all the odd jobs that a second hand car needs doing to get it 100% again, well maybe 95% haha. Like the Aerial Antenna, the mirror control switch, and a few other things as well. All common faults, by the looks of your videos. The vehicle will also need a service, so a big thank you for your video on that and how to reset the service indicator light. Great work, I don't really make videos for you RU-vid, But I might make a couple and let you know how I got on. :)
Thank you for this great video, as I have just brought a used car this is gonna help a lot, I didn't even know that there was a pollen filter there, so cheers mate.
Awesome video mate, I have golf 1.6 but it is very similar and your video is very helpful, till this day I didn't even know that you can change filter for air which you are actually breathing in the car, Thanks a lot man!! Cheers! :)
Thanks! Very helpful. I've been meaning to start doing these things myself but have only gotten to the interior filter so far. That's gonna change from now on!
Great video, didn't even know there was pollen filter (mine was worse than yours when I checked it today) a list of the tools needed would have been good though. Will defo try to do it myself next time after watching this video like 100 times lol
hi man, i am ver y greatfull for all your videos and i have made great use of them but i am having a hard time to replace spark plugs on my mk4 1.6 sr it would be awesome if You could make a vídeo on that. I think there are loads of people having issues with that. Again, great job!
Hi BMAC! Any chance you could do a vid on the same model vehicle showing... how to silicone in the gasket? As some will know, not all models have an actual 'compound' gasket that you just drop on and then screw back the cover. Mine is exactly the same as the one you've worked on in this quality vid and I for one would LOVE to see how that's done... many thanks in advance and keep up the good work fella :D
thanks. that was helpful. I use the same kind of car but realised it consumes a lot of fuel. I lately changed all plugs and air filter but havent seen any changes. what could be the cause
nice and helpefully video. thanks very much. i have do do all that, my car is just after failing on emissions on nct, so i gotta change oil and filter, i have done the spark plugs already, how much would all that cost me?
Hey man, how often do you suggest redoing plugs? I have a 1.8t if that makes a difference from n/a. Great video(s) by the way. You've helped me out a number of times now, including redoing shocks and springs. I always look to see if you've made a video first whenever I'm working on my car.
excellent video, nice one! gonna have a crack at this. I've used 5w-30 semi synthetic to top up before but noticed you used 5w-40 is this what you recommend? and is it fully synthetic? many thanks.
Very nice video :) just pointing out the pollen filter looked like activated carbon version, which is greyish looking even when new as opposed to the basic paper one. Still recommend to replace once a year no matter what version you use.
Hey! I have a 1.4 16v golf mk4 too and every time I'm at 50 - 60 mph specifically and let of the acceleration there seems to be a fairly noticeable knocking from the front left wheel/side. Any thoughts or ideas as to what may be wrong? Thanks
got the same engine, changed the spark plugs withou removing the cover. just to let everyone else know its doable but it looks to be easier to get the plugs out this way.
Thank you for this video. In your opinion, is it hard to change the timing belt and the water pump on this model? Is it possible to have a video? Thanks regard
Hello, thank you for excellent video, it was very usefull. I had a litlle problem though. when i removed the aluminium plug, the copper washer got drained away with oil. I noticed this after i finished the job. What should i do? Is it ok to drive without washer, or should i drain the oil again and add the washer on the plug? Thanks
Awesome! Finally some good dyi tutorials for 1.4 16v engine. Thanks a lot! May i ask you a question please? I hear'd there is a dryer in the air conditioning system. Is there any need to drain it or something like that?
Yes, thats how it works. If you want to be extra sure ckean the sump and pick up strainer out like I show in my video. That is a goodv hing to do for your car
Great, great video. I've just bought all the stuff from EuroCarParts (oil, air & fuel filter, new plugs and engine oil), they arrived this morning and I'm going to endevour to do this this afternoon or more likely tomorrow, thanks again BMAC, you're the man!
BMAC Car Mods Did it all yesterday, probably took me three hours, lol. The Sump plug was a bastard to get off, ended up forcing it off with a wrench and hammer. I had a little oil in the air filter but to be fair she was WAY overdue a service and some of the oil was really thick so I can only assume it was due to neglect.\ She's currently at 55k mileage, do I need to look into anything else before the next 10k? I assume I'm going to have to look at the cam belt at ~60k?
yes, 60k is defo a good time to look at the cam belt. No vids on that one yet, but one will be coming soon. If you buy a oil extractor you never need to lay under the again
The oil filter on my gf golf takes a 30m socket and it won't go over the filter as there is a air con pipe in the way so I went to halfords and got a chain oil filter wrench that won't go over the filter becouse of the friging aircon pipe so I have ordered a strap oil filter wrench that should go between the oil filter and the friging aircon pipe so I'm now waiting for the strap removing devise to get here anyway thanks for the service vid the cabin filter and the air filter went ok 😳👍🏻from Kent 😁
hi great video also a question i have a minor oil leak from back of the engine slowly dripping down on to sump have to fill oil every month or so , any ideas what it could be?
I have a problem with my 2003, 1.6 SR Golf Generation (Australia). It's started to over heat. The temp gage will sit on normal for a long time, then raise rapidly til alarms sound, then, decrease rapidly.. too rapidly it would appear, for coolants to have actually cooled down that quickly. This happens very soon after returning on the Air con. Anything you may have to say about this would be awesome. Thanks so much... AGAIN. BTW, this was happening before I changed the oil and filter and air filters. onyer
Hi there, Iv been seeing your videos for a while. I'm having problems with my mk5 golf 2004 1.4s that I recently purchased with 136k on the clock I had my a full services, full timing belt kit change. And oil pressure switch changed I keep constantly having a red oli pressure light every morning. After driving for 20mins the red oil light turns it self off And through the whole day it won't flash on again. Until the next morning. Also my engine makes a funny tapping/clicking noise when I start off in the morning and when I have my foot to the pedal the noise gets louder and after 20mins the engine warmed up. The noise totally goes and the engine sounds perfectly fine, like nothing has ever happen.. Hope you can help. Edward
No problem. The cars vary in prices depending on year and model. If you want to discuss importing options, contact me direct on bmacvags@gmail.com or maybe we can skype call each other.

I have the same car (2003 SE MK4 petrol) and because of your video I was able to change the cabin air filter, can I also suggest something. I don't know if you recommend oil catch cans but if I was to attach one how would I do it? Please help!
