Great video. Oor wee polo was almost written off after an altercation with a deer (Scottish country roads!!!). The front end was fixed up and looks good as new but now the engines overheating intermittently... After watching this video, I suspect the thermostat was damaged... So back to the garage we go 🤔 I don't think they boiled the thermostat in a pan to check!!! 🤣
Hi! Thanks for the video! Do you know where is the coolant temperature sensor in 1.4 tdi? I have a 2016 seat ibiza, cuta 1.4 105hp and I have no idea where it is, I need to replace it 😅
I love the little 3 cylinder TDI but the systems in the newer ones are mad. Our old bnv in a Skoda is the last of the simple TDI I think, still pd though. The water pump moves a serious amount of fluid compared to this one! Just changed the thermostat after 149k miles because it wasn't getting to an actual 90 degrees, £7 and some coolant and she's good to go again.
the newer 1.4 tdis are fine too they got an electronically controlled water pump which can be replaced by a normal one after you change the timing belt.
Thanks for that. These euro 6 engines look a mess under the bonnet compared to the earlier versions. I At least now the Egr valve is on the top of the engine. That thermostat looks like a classic case of VAG penny pinching.
More typical over engineered Shite, not made for the job , why do modern vehicles have such crap in them for major demanding systems , that take ages to strip and fit new components, great video Dave very helpful
Dave this exact engine is giving me problems. The engine is noisy and smoking black smoke and it doesn't have power, is like the turbo charger is not working ir injectors are faulty I don't know.
Hi I have a 2015 polo1.4tdi cyz 77kw. Problem is it destroys it's turbo centre core 3 times since I bought the vehicle 3 ago second hand bought by the way I request va vacuum pipes diagram or a clear picture or video showing the vacuum pipes layout please Thanks
Hi Dave. I have a similar problem with my 1,4 tdi CUTA engine. After driving like 5 km the coolant temp needle moves towards like 3oclock, it moves inbetween 90-120C for about 45 seconds or so, then it suddenly goes back to 90C and stays there no matter how hard i push the car or how long i drive. it helps to turn up the temperatue on the climate control. it had a new waterpump in 2019 at 90 000km. the car has now done 134 000 km. would you expect it to be the thermostat, waterpump or something else ? thanks.
Hi, I have the exactly same problem on my 1.4 tdi VW Polo V. The water temp needle oscillates between 90 and 110°C and suddenly comes back to 90°C. Did you fix the problem ? What can I do ? :/
Did this car come back it out of interest, pretty common for the water pump to be the issue on theses (diverter shield sticks intermittently) there is even a vw tech note, I replaced one today for this issue
dave sterl nice job Dave , good to see ur honesty too , I work on taxis mostly skodas and this issue is unbelievable common on the newer 1.6 and 2.0 vag engines so much so we have stopped using the pumps with the diverters n them. Keep up the good work man
My 64 reg1.4 TDi having the exact same issue. Replaced the thermostat with a new one but the problem remains. Car only done 17k miles. Did the problem get solved for good ?
@@me_me_only hi, i have an issue when the car is overheating i turn on the heater and then temp is going down. I tried the thermostat, waterpump is done 2019 for an imitation. Did you had an same issue
when i was a lad thermostats were made of brass and other quality materials . but volkswagen and german cars in general just love these cheap nasty plastic crap.
