Fitting a new sill panel to a vw polo. vw rotten sill repair. Tutorial on how to cut out the old sill panel and replace with a new one. Includes welding, dressing up the welds, the filler work, priming, and painting.
You did an awsome job. May I ask what's they average cost to do this if say customer supplies the new sills. I'm just asking as I need new sills on my rover 620si and it's just so I can make sure I've saved enough money so know of an average cost as nowhere will tell me when I ask. I know an exact cost can never be given and I don't want that just a baseline to go off.
I would take it to a body shop that you would be using and ask them for a price to do the job. If your stating you will supply your own sills thats probably why no one is giving you a price. Most body shops won't be interested. When people start wanting to supply there own panels, strait away it tells you they want the job doing as cheap as possible, the customer doesn't trust you, there can be problems with payment down the line if the job gets bigger.. body shops see this as a red flag. A job can get bigger once you remove the old sills, there could be welding that needs to be done behind. Jobs like this are not straight forward. No two jobs are the same and body shops charge different prices. I won't price anything unless I'm doing the job. This is the best I can do to answer your question, sorry.
Hello mate, I have watched this video a few times now and I really like your work. I couldn’t find a way to personally message you (don’t know how to lol) to enquire about you doing the same job for my VW Polo, same shape (2010 5 door). The car holds sentimental value to me as well as being my daily for at least the next few years until I can afford the dream whip. I am based near Newcastle and would be more than willing to drop my car off and cover any expenses. The side sills are bad but not horrendous and I would like the sills fully replaced and repainted like what you have done here rather than just patching it up so to speak like what a couple of people I’ve spoken to said they would do. in addition if you’d be interested there are some other minor rust spots on the car that I need taking care of. If you would be interested in helping me please do get in touch to discuss further, again I really like the standard of your work and there doesn’t seem to be anyone near me that would do as good a job. Cheers.
Thank you. If you go on Facebook my work page is on there. C.A.H RACEREPS & VEHICLE BODY REPAIRS. You can message me there or Instagram Supercarlsunday. Try the Facebook first. Many thanks Carl.
Hi mate, cracking job! Just wondering how you attached the underside? I see you had screws in to hold it in place but what method did you use once you had it where you wanted it? Cheers
@@Supercarlsunday ah nice one! In the middle of doing one myself. I’m a painter and do the odd repair in the body shop when we’re busy but this is my first attempt at cutting panel off and welding a new one on 😂 but attempting to tackle this myself at work with a bit or guidance 😂 is it just mig welded? One of the boys said the inner sill that this one is welded to is high strength steel? Thanks for your quick reply!
Thank you for this video, best sill replacement video I could find online, could I ask where you buy your sills from, iv been looking online but can’t seem to find the full sill from end to end
@@Supercarlsunday sorry i saw in the comments you posted a link on ebay but it seems to be gone or not working anymore. Im actually based in Ireland but im being quoted mad prices just for the sill so im hoping to buy a decent one second hand
@benedictaagha277 don't get ansecind hand sill. Your wasting your time. There must be one on ebay somewhere. I will have another look at some point. Just working now. Send me a message to my work face book page C.A.H RACEREPS & VEHICLE BODY REPAIRS and I will try and find you one 👍
10 out of 10 for stating the obvious buddy, however not everyone has the funds at the time unfortunately and prior to the damage the sill would have been fair rotten anyway. It was quite badly damaged so a repair to the original sill panel would have been a few quid anyway. There not really at a great loss with this one and i looked after them anyway. Thanks for your comment, feel free to check out the rest of my channel.👍
@@Supercarlsunday You did a good job repairing. I do know alot of people don't have the funds as prices are stupid for some parts and labor is too. My neighbour's got a Sharan and the front wing was gaffer taped up so out of kindness bought him a front wing that was in better condition.
Thank you and that was good of you. The labour rate is cheap when you add up all the costs of running a body shop, garage, constant costs of tools, equipment, bills and materials. The clothing and footwear that your constantly having to replace, the shit your breathing in, the cuts the burns, the knocks, the wear on your joints. Its a very labour intense job, a young man's game. Its funny the amount of people that think people like me are living the dream until they have ago themselves. You can't imagine the costs honestly. Working late nights to get jobs in to paint and back to my customers. I have a very understanding wife and so does anyone else in the game I can tell you mate. The hours that go in to most my projects, I hardly ever hit my labour rate by the time there done and the hours that go in to the bikes is crazy. One of the reason there is so many shocking repairs out there is because people rush the work to make a decent wage and stuff the customer. I can't do it, I care to much.
@@Supercarlsunday My friend is a bodywork specialist and when i've had odd jobs done his hands are always scuffed, scratched etc. I don't envy bodywork specialists at all. It sounds like a difficult job and sometimes for me when it comes to repainting things it can take a week or 2 to strip back to bare metal, fill sand, paint etc.
@jaggass It is very skilled, time-consuming work to master. Ive been doing it since I left school, just before my 16th birthday. I'm 44 now lol. Iv been in the trade a while, and I don't know anyone still in it from when I started. Yes, my hands are never tip-top unless I go on holiday lol. Minging job.
What an excellent job! As you implied, a garage would just stick a sill on and run. Well done for not doing that! On the subject, I’ve got a polo needing 2 sills, what sort of cost will I expect from a small body shop?
Thank you. It depends how bad yours are and where there putting them in. Not every job is the same. Body shops have there own hourly rates and prices, one will do it for one price than the next can be totally different. Id like to think you would get what you pay for. Make sure you go to a body shop though and not a garage that does just the welding.
Thanks for your advice, i was about to go to a place which is an auto welding garage, had a couple of recommendations but I also know a good body shop. As its an MOT failure both sills rear and strictly speaking should only get driven to the repairer I guess I’ll have to change over the phone quotes?
@@alan2804 Be clear what kind of job you want. If you want it finishing how I did it in the video so you can't tell its been done, you want it doing at the body shop.
I have a tiny tiny rust hoke starting to appear on my drivers side sill. You can only notice it when close up. Any tips on how I stop it getting worse? Just outta interest how much would a full replacement cost?
@@PatchedThePipe Every job is different. I would have to see it to price. If its a rust hole, by the time you take it back to isolate the rusted area it will end up been a bigger job than you think. If it is just a spot of rust and not holed through, you can scrape it off for now and put an anti rust solution on it, like a kurust, then when that's gone off, touch up with paint, it will hold it back.
