Here is how to replace a mirror that was sideswiped a few times too many! This is an electric heated mirror from a 2001 VW T4 ABL SWB van.

You removed the front panel so easily. I tried with all force I have and it still wont come off. I've watched your video several times just to make sure I didn't skip some screw or something. And I did not. So off to the van and will try to smack that thing of once again. Thanks for the tutorial! FIXED! In case you have a speaker in the front door, you must remove the speaker grill, then the speaker itself then the frame that holds the speaker. And then you can remove the panel with only your fingers!

Thank you, very helpful video! Most things are easy to do on the t4 as long as you know what to do (and have special tools in some cases), but I wouldn't say that it's a very intuitive vehicle when it comes to hobby mechanicing...

FYI You don't need to take the door panel off. Just unscrew the four screws holding the window control motor and unplug from the back.

Had no vertical mirror electrical adjustment for a while. Don't suppose you know what to look at/fix/replace/bodge?

In behind the glass there are 2 small motors. It could be the motors or the cogs that they turn. They break very easily. Even taking the glass off can damage them. If that is all in good order then it could be anything from the switches to the cables.

If you got a speaker in door panel, you'll need to remove it as well. There are three screws in the speaker housing.

Thanks Wojciech! I guess that is on the caravelle or 800/888 models. My standard 1000 has only 2 standard speakers.

Pleas tel me if the miror work together or no ?because i chaange all the left miror and i put the atachment of corrent but it dont function ,may be the right one is not conected because it is not electric not original ia manual but theris cable of the car help me pleas

I don't know, After this mirror broke I replaced it with non electric, much easier!

I can't see why one shouldn't work with the other. I have heard that the wires going into the door can get damaged and broken in the gaitor, damage from flex when door opens and closes. maybe that is your issue. maybe try putting 12v to the mirror motors to check if it works. then check that the switch has power and is working properly, just fault find through each step that the electricity must take.

The more electronics there is, the worse it is, cars the last 20 years have added nothing but useless tech, it wouldn't matter to a rich person, but for a normal person its a bother, fixed a broken left mirror 20/11/20 thats not electric

I agree, I just replaced my van with a 2004 golf bora passat variant. they are all basically the same car and still have the technology of this van. I recently reversed my new car sideswiping a large plastic box, leaving a nice pattern in the pain on the side door and wing. Glad it's not a new car, that kind of thing would upset me on a new car! It's funny, there are low end e-bikes that cost more than my car!

Someone kicked my door mirror off, came back to the van and the mirror was hanging off, had a closer look and there was a converse trainer sole print on the mirror glass, mounting plate was split in half. They have the manual mirrors on ebay for about £25 so not the end of the world, still not nice to be a victim of mindless vandalism.

Sucks alright. I have had another van smash it, combined speed of about 90 mph, Complete new unit. Another time I came back to it when it was parked overnight and hanging off. Needed a new motor unit. The one I was fixing in this video had been hanging on for ages, but wouldn't fold back, it was broken during an MOT test, about 5 years ago! I go the electric one on ebay for £25, I think it was an incorrect listing. Bargain! Manual is good for value, but I don't think they have the heaters. Another video for you to make! Did you see my vid about how to break in through the back door? Someone screwdrivered their way in, mangled the steel around the lock, and didn't bother to take any of the crap I have in the back these days! Just mindless waste!

bootsowen Yes, saw that one about the screwdriver, I will never understand the mentality behind that sort of behaviour. I just bought one of those JR £55 drive shafts from ebay today, comes with the cv joint at both ends, it arrives monday, wondering what the quality will be like for that price.

Well, I have started to look at things the way the guy in my motor factors looks at things. When I go in and ask for oil for the van, he asks how old it is? Older than 10 years gets the cheapest £12/5litre semi synth. easy logic. I have been putting the cheapest parts on the van for the last 10 years. Helps me to make a lot of videos!
