I'm glad you found the video helpful Justin. It appears VW have a real problem with this wiring as this video has already had some 22,000 views. So let's hope this video helps everyone save some money on the repairs. Just imagine what it would cost to take it into a garage!
I just fixed my 2003 Caravelle which has a broken wire exactly as shown in this very helpful video. Many thanks! One difference I will note that in my car I had to remove the door speaker cover and the speaker to remove 3 screws securing the door card before i could take the door card off. I also fixed mine without cutting the thick brown wire.

Thank you so much for doing this video it gave me the confidence to DIY on my 2002 Eurovan here in the US. Sure enough 5 severed wires. Mirrors , speaker and Power window all toast.

Good morning Linda, I'm glad you found the video helpful. Sorry, I have not produced a video on lead soldering so far. If you do a search on RU-vid I am certain you will find one on that subject. I suggest have a look at several videos and see what works for you. Lead soldering is extremely easy, just as long as you buy quality tools and materials. But the most important thing is to keep everything super clean. Let us know how you get on.

It sounds like you may be lucky and just have a loose connection Zoe. I suggest, pop the door panel off and go round and jiggle the various connections. Put your ignition on and try all the switches and wiring connections. If your van is petrol don't leave the ignition on too long as you might heat up the ignition coil (bad idea). A poor connection or some corrosion might be the problem. A squirt of electrical switch cleaner on the various connections might also help. You never know, your mirror might suffer from the same problem. Let us know how you get on.
@@Qspecialman Hi Tony thank you. I have taken door card off. I swapped the switches over, as in passenger switch on drivers window. This did nothing. I can't hear a tap on the window motor when I press the switch, so it doesn't look like power is getting to the motor?? I'm wondering if shutting the door is reconnecting the broken wire. After a while it doesn't work again ?? I will get the spray you suggested and try again. It's a diesel. Best wishes Zoe

Great video! Thanks. My problem is more severe thanks to the previous owner who has done a - new multicollored mess of twisted wires and electric tape art piece - in there. I now have to cut and replace most of the wires but since most are already broken off I have to figure out which goes to which. Any tips on how to figure that out? Once again, great video. Thanks
I suggest the best idea is to get hold of a VW T4 wiring diagram (for your model and year) and try and replicate the wiring colours. That way you have a sporting chance of get the right wires to the right connections. If you are not sure about reading the wiring diagrams (they take a bit of getting used too) it might be an idea to buy a cheap second hand wring loom off eBay and copying this with new wires of the correct colours. Thanks Tony! The wires in my car were all cut and the mid section poorly replaced by random collored wires that now had broken off. All of this in an impressively thick and gooey layer of random collored electric tape. Enough were still left of the original wires on both sides to solder on new mid sections. The original wires are all collor coded and though some has same collor the gauge is different so it's easy to figure out which one goes to where. Now everything is working except for a broken lock motor. Will fix a new one tomorrow. Thanks again.
