I've got an oil leak from my T5 and been thinking it was the turbo return line. But I found the same oil drip from the filler cap as you show. I just recently got the car so I just thought the previous owner spilled some when he changed the oil or something. Will try a new oil filler cap to see if it fix the issue. Thanks for the tip!
I have a T6 which I’ve just put new alloys on and I need to stick some front arm bushes on it so going to try non rubber type. Long story short, a father of another child at my sons school has a T5 and was talking to his wife who I told could have my wheels if her husband wanted to trade his labour for them. She told me they’d had a new engine in theirs but there was still a leak. I’d assume if it was a new engine that it would come with new oil cap but I’ll let him know about this. Might even get me a feather in my cap lol and he really is a submarine engineer 👍
If you look to the bottom left of the oil filter casing, you can see a lot of oily residue along the edge of the valve cover (cylinder head). Could that be attributable to the worn seal on the old oil filler cap or is that an indication of a valve cover gasket leak?
Yes I believe they were. I’ve not had any issues from the cap since and I have now located and fixed the majority cause of the oil drips… oil pressure sensor !
