Hello, my name is Mick and this is my 2007 VW T5 Camper van, Casper...
So what's the channel all about ? Well, this is my first ever VW camper van, which I'm very excited about and I hope to document any modifications I make to the van here. Along with all the new adventures I hope to go on, in the future.
I hope you will join me on this journey and I look forward to hearing your comments, advice and words of wisdom.
Hi.... I watched your video but it mentioned no passenger air bag. I found another video showing how to do this from underneath (it didn't mention air bags). I did mine from underneath in 20 mins.... if you do have an air bag then search for the video and its just as easy, if not easier. Here's the link to fix the T4/T5/T6 from underneath ....ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xmoZrKXEXZk.html
I've got the same base have done for 6months. Only used twice for longer stays. Today I learnt I Can face out the door 👍🏻. I presume there is no way of securing it in this position? Just thinking if on uneven ground it may was to slide towards the front of the camper
Great creative modifications. You could snip off the push in plug for the rubber grommets. As you said, the cable won't come.out so no need for them. Given me some good ideas for our van.
If you look to the bottom left of the oil filter casing, you can see a lot of oily residue along the edge of the valve cover (cylinder head). Could that be attributable to the worn seal on the old oil filler cap or is that an indication of a valve cover gasket leak?
I had thought of doing that but a friend said that in theory the fridge should have some space above it for heat that comes from the fridge to dissipate, otherwise it would overheat, and the drawer takes that space. Thoughts please?
An additional storage idea for the steering lock is to leave the mechanism open and hook it over the Back of the twin seat via the top of the seat belt cover.
We have one but once it’s swivelled around I want to be able to fix it in place but there no hole. So it feels unsafe as the seat moves around a lot. No good if you an to climb into roof and could also dangerous. Not sue our fitter has this the right?
Are you still alive Mick? Have you still got your T5 van? I have a 2008 T30 which I converted 13 years ago and am still tinkering with storage ideas. Half man - half mega stretch carpet like your good self. Cheers, J😊😊😊
Had mine for 13 years and take it off once year to check the tyre, repaint and grease everything up. I installed a locking securing stud back then as t5 spare wheels were being pinched on a daily basis. Fortunately, I've never had a puncture in all that time so have never needed to drop it in anger at the side of the road. ( touch wood)
I have made the panel for the roof which acts as shelf to get stuff out of the way when the bed board is up. But have been thinking of an alternative curtain hanging arrangement as I can’t use the pole as the. Shelf is in the way. You’re idea of a baton across is ideal. So I’ve. Snaffled that one. Ta!
My t5 is doing this constantly, have cleaned contacts, havent got screw forcurtain rail there. How difficult is it to take the door card off? Lock works sometimes, not others, and won't open from inside either with handle.
Thanks for this, there is a lot of rust I've found in the bottom gully for the sliding door just below where you did yours, I've brought some rust treatment so hoping that will help, probably no point me actually painting it as the rollers will no doubt chip it off.
Brute force and ignorance I’m afraid, but with a bit of care thrown in 👍 it’s just plastic clips on lugs, so just do a bit at a time moving round the edge of the panel…
The white boarding you used for storage. Where did you get that from? I have the same type of bed in my t5 and the bit where you have the shutter is just wasted space for me as I currently just have a "worktop" kind of setup. I love this idea to store all my things
Any idea what’s causing my sliding door to not slot into place , not to lock just to get it to shut , seems like somethings stopping it shut t5 05 plate
Could be the plate that takes the locating lug on the door out of line or your rollers may be worn, causing the door to drop slightly, which would stop the locating pin sitting in the ‘cup’ on the pillar…
Hey, thanks for the video. Great job! I'm curious about the seats - are those fixed seat covers you have on them? Did you fit them yourself, or were they professionally done?
Thank you for your comment, the seat covers were fitted by the people who converted the van to a camper (they didn’t do a brilliant job, but I’ve sorted that now). They are fixed yes…
Hi Mick, I'm going to utilise your cargo net idea on my campervan. I need to fix one of the 'hook' points onto the metal door post. What size/type of screw would you suggest? Cheers.
Hi Gary, thank you for your comment. I would go for a similar size screw to what came with your hook (maybe slightly beefier), drill a tiny pilot hole and use a self tapping screw 👍
I have just did similar job but for T5.1 - the problem is it is almost impossible to buy such version, so I took one for T5 (exactly like in video), removed the casing, pulled the blank from dashboard, drilled/cut proper holes, then put the charger in it and voile'a I got T5.1 version. the rest is the same as in the video :)
