One tip, when you remove the pan bolts, leave two of them on opposite side of each other barely tightened and in place. Then precede with the pan removal/prying. After the pan is no longer stuck to the transmission body remove the two bolts and lower the pan. Easy and zero mess.

Strange that there was so much oil left in the transmission after the draining procedure?

I have a TDI in great condition and love driving it. It has done 211,000km. I am going to service the transmission as I intend to keep the car for a few more years. Should I replace the oil in the diffs and transfer case as well?

No harm. And fairly inexpensive
@ow-my-achilles1106
@ow-my-achilles1106 Год назад
Do it. It's actually one of the easier things to do. You should pre-emptively spray some kind of penetrating oil on the drain and fill plugs on the diff units. There is a fill plug, and a drain plug, make sure you can remove the FILL plug first!! If you cannot remove the fill plug, DO NOT remove your drain plug. Fix the issue. Cheap and easy maintenance. Use the correct full synthetic recommended by VW.

I already went to Rockauto and found the speed senser, however it has only one socket of two cobles no 3 as you indicate and is external because it is similar to the crankshaft sensor. but your location according to my review I do not get it .but good anyway thanks, I keep looking for your location

I hope at lease your subscribed. Your taking advantage of my weakness for helping others. volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/touareg/toua/2007-478/9/927-927070/ Item 24 is the speed sensor location on the transmission. I hope that my 30mins of research helps you out enough. just move proof that Mechanics and the automotive industry is so under appreciated. simple tasks like Component location. This is why I am not longer in the TRADE anymore. Everyone including customers, management, service advisors want everything done cheap or free. The truth is the amount of knowledge one needs to operate a service manual and or a parts catalog takes years of experience. no one wants to pay people for that knowledge.This is low level stuff imagine rear issues. I do all these videos and this channel to not only show how to do some work on your car but more importantly to get an appreciation for what it takes professionals to take on work on these vehicles so that when its time to go to a shop you underhands why it costs what it cost. Have a nice day. keep us all updated on the repair.

I believe if you want to drive a luxury diesel suv that is very capable. I don't believe there is a much better choice. These vehicles are good for 500000 km on factory engine. Watch a different car review he has a q7 with that much. If you buy these and drive them at to 250,000kms I don't think you'll replace anything other then some gaskets unless you want to sorta all thr issues out but then your left with a great sorted vehicle

@My Home Garage Got the tools and some mechanical knowledge but not a technology wiz by any means. I noticed this car has a diesel exhaust smell. It could be another issue, but I also notice it feels quite peppy compared to my last touareg I breafly owned. It makes me wonder if it has a leak pre dpf or been deleted...hmmm. Thanks a million for your input.

@@benjilacombe7478 yeah take it for a long drive steady speed like 2-3 hours. That will allow the DPF to clean itself naturally. Because it can for regen even at idle if it needs and it sprays adblu in exhuast to minimize the emissions. And you get a sweet kind diesel smell out the back. I have noticed. No not put your nose there you'll get a headache.

Very good "how to" video!! I have assembled all the components and fluid I need to do mine. I do not have a lift, so it will be a set of ramps and jack stands (keeping it level) and a creeper. I plan on driving it until full operating temp, this is about 180°F for fluid temps. Then I'll do the drain, pan drop, filter change and pan cleaning, and wait a couple hours until the temp is a lot lower. I plan on leaving the parking brake on, holding the brake pedal, and rowing through gears while it's in the air with the front wheels on ramps, and the rear is on hack stands to make sure and circulate the fluid for the level check. I noticed you did not remove the engine/transmission dust shield bracket mounting crossmember, and you worked around it with a wobble extension. How hard would it be to remove the bracket I wonder? Or is it best to leave there when tilting the pan down it has something to "stop" from falling off completely? One of my concerns is making a massive mess while I'm on my back under the car! So glad you showed the "oops" moment when it dumped over the edge! This is the kind of info I like seeing so I can avoid it myself. Thank you thank you!

This has been done incorrectly to get all the old oil out you need to undo the pan first drain clean replace filter reinstall pan, then remove the clamp for the transmission cooler by the radiator then attached 2 clear pipes on the cooler pipe flange and place in large container, fill the transmission with fluid about agallon of new atf useing the filling tool and a pump then place pump in another full bottle of ATF get some one to start the engine in neutral and watch the old oil get pushed out of the cooler pipes via the clear pipes from the torque converter and pump more AFT into the transmission at the same time , when the oil in the clear pipes turns from black to red then turn off the engine, reattach the cooler pipes to car and add up all the old oil to work out how much came out , then fill with same amount of new atf oil , start engine then run through gears and leave running in park pump more aft as nessaserry and then remove filling tool and let it drain till it stops then replace plug , this will ensure all the old oil is out of the torque converter and oil gallary combined with the pan removal this process will remove almost most of the old oil from the transmission.

Thanks for the reply. Good to know. I have a 2013 q7 tdi that I bought used. It just turned 200 000 km. I have changed all of the fluids except the tranny. A little nervous to do it at this point as I have no clue if has been done by the previous owner. Have you seen the Touareg after the gearbox oil was done? Any problems? My VW/ Audi specialist mechanic says not to change it at this point. He says the new oil would be too slick or something like that which could wear the clutch packs very fast and ultimately lead to the failure of the transmission. In your honest opinion Should I listen and wait for the transmission to die or change the gearbox oil and gamble ?

@@denisdavidov2297 If it has never been done. Don't touch it. Asisn, ZF 8 speeds are known for having issues if you change the fluid late in the vehicle life especially if the fluid is super dirty... you could technically drain just the pan. Catch whatever comes out. And put the same fluid you took out back in if it's super dirty. If it looks pretty clean then change the 3liter or 4 that come out with just the drain.

would this be the same filling method for a 2005 audi a4 b6? I am told that on the b6 i need to do an adaptation procedure by driving the car 30 feet forward stop hold the breaks for 10 seconds then reverse for 30 feet stop hold the breaks for 10 seconds and repeat this process 7 times. This is the adaptation method. Oh...forgot to tell you that I am removing my TCM because it needs to get repaired so perhaps that is why I would need to do the adaptation procedure.

Hi, thanks for the video. I have 2011 touareg 3.0tdi 315.000km on it. I’ve been owning for 30k kms. I don’t know if the transmission oil had changed by the previous owners. The transmission has no big problems, however when I release the gas pedal the car does not sail, it slows down like its breaking. This situation is very obvious on the 2nd gear when the car is cold. I was planning to change the transmission oil and the filter, however I am confused when I read your comments above. What is your suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Mine does the same thing. Something with these transmissions when they are cold. The take a bit to get up and going. The ZF transmission would have been better. We have the asisn.
@MyHomeGarage
@MyHomeGarage Год назад
My whole thing is if you have never changed it and it has 300,000kms it's better not to touch. If you can find evidence that it has been serviced then yes continue to service. It won't hurt if you just do a drain and fill allows you to get a good look at the colour of the fluid. Then what ever amount came out you just put new fluid back in same amount.

Use Toyota WS, this is an aisin transmission used in many makes and models, Mitsubishi pajero sport, Lexus lx570, LC200 2015 up, vw, Audi,… Also, you don’t need to fill the fluid through the bottom, go to the driver side front and you will see a fill plug size24mm remove it and start filling. By the way, the fill plug has the symbol WS( world stander) referring to aisin WS fluid / Toyota fluid.
