W is for WEIGHT LIMITS
*
Did you know that your Lower Anchors have weight limits and that once those are reached you must switch to using a seatbelt to install your seat? Yep! A lot of caregivers overlook these limits or are not aware of them! Generally speaking, once the weight of your car seat + the weight of your child adds up to 65 lbs, you must switch to a seat belt installation if you were using Lower Anchors. The easiest way to know the weight limits when it comes to your particular seat is obviously by reading the manual, BUT there are also stickers on your child restraint that tell you “stop using Lower Anchors for installation once the weight of you child is ________”. These can also vary from rear-facing to forward-facing, so make sure you know the difference. BUT you also need to read your automobile manual to check out what your vehicle’s own limits are. If, for example, your Honda Odyssey has a lower weight limit on your anchor attachment points than what is specified for your car seat, go by the LOWEST WEIGHT LIMIT. These weight limits do NOT apply to Top Tether usage, so please always refer to your manual and use Tethers as necessary or required.
