R3Bor, thank you VERY MUCH for the feedback. I wish I could figure out how to get a larger audience, but after a year and a half, it is still very small. Thanks again for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

@@MakingStuffwithChrisDeHut have you tried partnering with other creators to feature each other on your channels? It seems to be effective. But hell, I don’t know what I’m talking about

This is one of the best videos about woodworking tools, and glue ups that I’ve ever seen. With this one video alone, do you have answered so many questions I had about these tools, and the advice you gave about how to use a belt sander was spot on. I have had high points on my glue ups and struggled with that and your belt sanding technique worked great with a bar top I just did. Thank you!

I just glued up four six in wide walnut boards to make a counter top for my RV. Your video was just the knowledge I needed for my next step of flattening the panel. Thank You! Very informative video. 😄

Good explanation of all the techniques. As a new woodworker I ended up following the same progression of tools. I use a hand plane to get the biggest gaps whittled down, then the belt sander, and then the random orbital sander. I’d like to say I could get it all done with hand planes and card scrapers, but for most of us that’s probably not gonna work. Thanks for the great video!

I search the internet for the information you provided here. No one explains how to level down glue- ups. I will buy my hand planer and take it from there; God bless!

Nice video, it really reflects my findings as well. I tried using an electric hand planer and found out really quickly how much material it can take off, also incredibly loud and messy. Same with the belt sander, couldn't stand the dust and noise, but effective tool. Sold both of them and got a basic hand plane and some card scrapers and a spokeshave. I'm having much more fun using the hand tools, even though it takes more effort to remove the material

Hi Chris, would you consider using a no80 scraper plane?
@MakingStuffwithChrisDeHut

Never used a scraper plane, however, if I were still woodworking today I probably would have to use one - hand strength had diminished substantially since back then. Cheers! Chris

Thanks for this video. I am just starting to do glue ups and they are never flat. I was hoping that you would use the power planer. I just bought one and it leaves a scooped out area by the far end of the board. I was wondering why. Thought you would cover it.

Hi Allen, I am assuming by "Power planner" you mean a hand held unit? Chris

@@MakingStuffwithChrisDeHut Sorry, Yes I just bought a handheld electric planner. I glued up a couple scrap boards and tried it out. It dug in about 1 1/2" in from the end. No matter how I held it.

@@86abell Unfortunately, those things are "unpleasant" to use. Your results are common and unfortunate. I have had VERY MINIMAL success using one and ended up doing what is in the video: Belt sanding, scraping, planning (manual), and sanding. Wide drum sanders are helpful, but they too create additional problems like "sniping" at the ends of the boards.
