Wagga Wagga Recycling

I chucked up my first Wagga video years back of the green waste collection, now I’m excited to upload the domestic recycling instalment from the regional city. Back in 2017 I dropped by this location to catch the original SITA side loaders in action, and midmorning on the Wednesday I managed to document unit R1, which was 1 of 2 fulltime recycle trucks operating in Wagga between 2007 and 2018. Both were identical Superior Pak Raptors on Iveco ACCOs, being the sweet combo the company went for at the time, done up in the traditional green for the body and white on the cabs. Notably these side lift trucks were wholly owned and run through a subcontractor arrangement, no doubt a carryover system from the previous collection contract started with Garrett’s Waste Management. The fleet was 10 years into service by time I showed up, the state of the signage is an indication of this, but the gear was still out there being looked after by the owner drivers and getting the job done. I loved how perfect these 07 ACCOs sounded in Wagga too, the exact noise you expect to hear, very satisfying listening to it pierce the peacefulness here in Glenfield Park. I’m cheering I was able to get the recycle service in action, with a bit more duration to this video for those who want the extra entertainment, all much more fun than what JJ Richards operates now emptying modern wheelie bins. One reason I was especially keen for Wagga recycling was due to the existing bins, seeing that they were previously divided Brickwood 240Ls (when introduced in the late 90s), plus less than common in NSW as blue bodied and yellow lidded. Thanks to the operator for being all good with me following along - I was told one driver would be fine with videos and the other would probably tell me to fuck off, so glad I came across the right one! haha

I have been waiting to see this footage for a long time! Can definitely tell this truck has not worked hard at all. The plain white cabs look mint, good to see the original SITA logos were on the signage right up until the end.

Awesome Video, love the roar of this beast. Reminds me of the old Mitchell days especially with the blue and yellow recycling bins and otto 120ls. Definitely a rather beat up truck, looks amazing. Once again, Awesome video.

Nice Mitch, love these old euro 3s brings back good memories, also love the blue body bins with yellow lids, something about them is more interesting than the common dark green bodies

It's amazing comparing the condition of these old Wagga truck to the previous Penrith fleet. Both were put into service in the same year, had the same chassis, same body and were run by the same contractor, however the condition they were in when the contracts wrapped up differed immensely! Defiantly a case of "operators" vs "steering wheel attendants". Also note the lack of clunking with the arm operation too, which was always a characteristic of these older Raptors, another sign these trucks were looked after right until the end. First time I've ever noticed a Superior Pak drive between bins with the grabs in the half open position, I know you could do that in the old MJEs but not in the Raptors. You'd be greeted with a barrage alarms doing that in a modern truck lol. Was that operator choice, or a malfunction? Awesome work mate, was a treat seeing those old Brickwood's get tipped for a second week in a row!

Two groups of trucks belonging to very different worlds! Too bad the signage and upper body colour was so gone, just imagine if they had the full slick appearance to go with the performance. I was wondering if anybody would notice the grabbers being left out, I'm guessing it was operator choice. You may have spotted the old MJs didn't have a sensor for the grabs (surprisingly), I believe they first introduced the potentiometer for this function when the Gen6 came out. Only after uploading this video did I realise I posted double Brickwood footage, oops! Such an overkill on my part, yet so acceptable haha
