Tobias Petersson BoostedBoiz = Best RU-vid channel ever
@andrewschuster3830
@andrewschuster3830 7 лет назад
Tobias Petersson I wouldn't listen to everything they do. They are missing a ton of information and the procedures and processes are very outdated and now incorrect. For one don't use valve lapping compound. It will always leave the surface uneven. Recut the seat angles and grind the valve face. Check with a marker by tapping the valve face against the seat to see the seal you have. If not good, recut seat until uniform.
@andrewschuster3830
@andrewschuster3830 7 лет назад
Tobias Petersson technically the techniques they are using and procedures that are now outdated will lead them to failure because it will in the long run not last as long as if you do the correct procedures and such.

The reason for lapping the valves is to get an air tight seat. You lose compression through valves that don't have an air tight seat.

after you put all of the valve springs back on go over each and every one of them with a rubber mallet and hit them a couple of times to seat the keepers properly.

also please use copper spray lightly its mean to fill imperfections in the gasket. Charlie put that stuff on so thicc. that stuff does wonders, done many a many 2 stroke motors with the base gasket and head with that and litterly no leaks.
@LemonMan_Man
@LemonMan_Man 7 лет назад
im gonna make a response video do they have a facebook/twitter?
@anthonyrowell7853
@anthonyrowell7853 7 лет назад
what u actually meant to say was, DO NOT use copper spray on that FELPRO head gasket because the coating on the gasket isnt compatible with copper spray, they are meant to be put on DRY. The blue coating on the outside of that gasket fills the imperfections in your mating surfaces, and the copper spray will end up making the head gasket leak prematurely.

Valve suction cup thingy=Lapping handle.. 👍. The paste is lapping compound... Nice work... That mechanical spring compressor works really well.. Nice!
@MrTheHillfolk
@MrTheHillfolk 7 лет назад
Craig Cundiff make a white mark across the suction cup thing, and try to keep your stroke to 90 degrees (lol yea I said stroke).... go 90 degrees , turn it clockwise 90 degrees and go again.....basically you will have (4) 90 degree motions to lap a valve in.
@boosted2.4_sky
@boosted2.4_sky 7 лет назад
Correct. Lift up and down while spinning through the process..lap em in real nice👍
@MrTheHillfolk
@MrTheHillfolk 7 лет назад
Craig Cundiff Yea no doubt. You can hear the lapping compound get smoother as you do the hokey pokey with the suction cup. Lift up and get some crunchy noises again. I've seen rebuilt heads skip lapping , I'll usually hang a valve open to see if they are lapped. If not , I'll tear it down to do it. idk I think it gives a superior seal
@boosted2.4_sky
@boosted2.4_sky 7 лет назад
Absolutely.. Why would anyone get the head apart and not lap the valves and seats!?... And change the seals... It's all right there... And inexpensive. ...
@MrTheHillfolk
@MrTheHillfolk 7 лет назад
SKS vs BLM there used to be a grease based paste, pops has some at the shop. It's a green can similar in size to a dip can, 2 sided can with coarse on 1 side and fine on the other. and clovers on the can. I can't remember the name, but it's way nicer than the permatex water based one. I used some a couple years ago to lap in some valves on my trapter. (Trapter, shameless plug for my channel 😂)

You lap the valves to make them seat in the head, if the valves dont seat, you loose compression, loose power,it also affects flow over the back of the valves

put a piece of hose over the valve stem on the other end then put the other end of those into a drill bit and BAM you got a drill to help you lap those valves works like a champ!

big tip for lapping valves if you have a drill and a foot long of rubber hose put the hose on the drill and connect the rubber tube to the valve through the block using the drill gets you a really nice finsh you can spin it alot faster then you hand can

@Whitt_Built
@Whitt_Built 7 лет назад
You lap the valves to make sure they seat correctly. If they don't seat correctly, they will leak compression out of the cylinder there for losing power. If they still have pitting in them it's not correct. You know they are perfect (as far as when you do them by hand) when you can test them with water and non of the water leaks past the valve.
@DeadFront1319
@DeadFront1319 7 лет назад
Should cut the handle of the suction cup valve lapping tool in half, screw a self tapping 2" screw into the wood handle of the now halved lapping tool, leave an inch of threads hanging out, cut the head off the self tapper, then place a power drill on the threads of the self tapper and tighten the chuck, to be able to power lap those valves. Wash and repeat with the other half of the lapping tool to have two functional lapping drill attachments.

Oh god we just learned about lapping valves at my college. Never do it. You'll always end up with an uneven surface. Just recut the seat. And grind the valve. Then use an expo marker on the clean part of the top of the valve and gently tap the valve from the back side. It will show you your valve seat. If it looks uneven recut again until uniform

The other thing you suppose to do that you did talk about. was make sure the head surface is straight & flat. a lot of time's you have to get the Heads Decked. just to make sure the head is not Wraped. & un even. or the head gasket won't seal right. or last very unless you get Real lucky.
