Indian Village is a nice Detroit neighborhood that features fantastic large houses from the late 19th and early 20th century. Over the years, this neighborhood has been able to be preserved where-as most other Detroit neighborhoods have become ghost towns.

What a fantastic video in your Detroit series, Chris. I was in Detroit in 2014 and was blown away by Indian Village. It looks even better today. I hope you visited Sherwood Forest, the University District, Rosedale Park, and Palmer Woods. Detroit has some incredible residential neighborhoods that rival those in New York City, Philadelphia and Chicago. Thank you for showing the beauty of this amazing city. Most people have no ideal how many gorgeous sections are still here.

One of the things that was cool about living in Indian Village was not just the snoot factor which is what most people see, but that every resident there thinks of their house as a work of art and history to be proudly preserved. People in Indian Village (and Palmer Woods) take this role very seriously and personal, and really believed in it as part of revitalizing Detroit as not just a city, but a culture.

So my dad was a Detroit native and I was raised there- I live in Chicago now. One of his favorite neighborhoods was Indian village and one of his favorite things to do on a sunny day was drive around the city and look at homes. We did it all the time. He passed in November 2022. These videos have brought me comfort- knowing he was alive when this was recorded and that he may have been just driving around the city doing exactly what I’m watching on that day. Thanks for these videos. ❤

I live in WB where many homes from before 2000s are unique BUT … they cut down the woods and continue to build “Stepford” movi- like match-matchy subdivisions. Immature foliage, close together, tiny yards. Also, inner ring 70s suburbs like Livonia, Novi, Farmington + Southfield also contain miles of “cookie cutter” homes.

I hope you're going to do Brush Park. It's the ewest neighborhood and has a mix of conpletely refurbisned early 1900s mansions and brand new condos. The culmination of Detroit's revival has led to brush park's development.
@manbtm1
@manbtm1 Год назад
Yes Brush Park is becoming very large and extremely expensive there is a smattering of old 1800 grand homes that have been totally renovated but primarily new condominiums townhomes etc. some of the townhomes have sold for as high as $1 million it’s just amazing the development in there it’s location of course it’s prime, the rental buildings built in there are quite expensive also averaging 1800 x2100 for a one bedroom quite often

In 1959 I married a resident of Riverside Ontario which was opposite to the Fischer,Dodge mansions and Gar Wood"s Estate..Grayhaven. There was a huge yacht berthed in front of a Dodge home on the Detroit River. Used to see the Miss Pepsi boat races. Went to the Rooster Tail, Red Kemps,London Chop House restaurants. Giddy times for me a young .naive university student. My fiancee took me to Ile Peche and we took motor boat exploration all up.and down those famous inlet waterways dotted with mansions wi boat houses the size of monster homes.That was when Detroit was the richest city in the world and it was mind boggling. Its amazing I'm still alive to recall so much. I was even arrested at Sinbad's bar for entering US without reporting to customs. My fiances fault as he piloted the small boat and shd have known better being 5yrs older than me,a mere 18 yr old.

West Village is pretty popular for a lot of young professionals especially the ones that want to be closer to the east side. Every time I turn around I’m meeting somebody that is considering moving over there or lives over there. It still has quite a way to go when it comes down to petty crime such as car break-ins if you park on the street but overall it’s a nice neighborhood that isn’t quite as expensive as downtown.

Detroit is a beautiful city with scars and memories. We have a Zoo too...not just neighborhoods to view (We aren't an exhibit, somewhat jokingly) . Metro Detroit has some of the richest hoods in the country. Separated by a single road sometimes. We cross pollinate and contaminate. Music, culture, in every way. We shake hands more than we shoot to outsiders. Hugs don't make headlines.

The zoo is in Royal Oak, but yes it’s great. The single road you speak of is 8 mile. Get out of Detroit and yes, Oakland and Macomb counties, even Wayne, have some really nice suburbs. Alot of towns in the boston suburbs have streets that look like that. Same styles built at rhe same time.

The Chicago suburbs too. I went to school in River Forest, IL and wouldn’t be able to tell the difference except the lawns in Detroit are deeper. Lovely neighborhood.

These are not suburbs. This is Detroit. The suburbs of Grosse Pointe, Bloomfield Hills, and Birmingham are FAR superior to any of these neighborhoods

I lived on Iroquois, 1965-67, moved to Canada due to the riots. I don't remember the house # but it had 24 rooms, a ballroom (not the IKEA kind) on the 3rd floor, and a carriage house with an apartment above it. pretty sure it had 2 white pillars out front. I'd love to see a picture of it, don't know where to look. Thanks for this video!

Detroit has a long way to go! If you go to the Zillow listing for this property (links are apparently not allowed; a comment that included a link was soon removed), you'll see that the $3.5M original asking price when listed January 2022 was reduced, in steps, to $1.2M when finally sold November 2022.

Hi Chris. L'm watching from Australia, so please pardon my ignorance. Is it normal to have snow on the ground at this time of year for you folk?
@ChrisHarden
@ChrisHarden 2 года назад
I filmed it in February. Snow season for most of the populated areas in the northern U.S. stretches from November to March usually.

Absolutely Gorgeous. I watch and ride around with The Shea Show, but he doesn't show us these neighborhoods. What a beautiful city. the planners really need to do something to attract industry to Detroit, you already have the wide streets, infostructure, and real estate, some of which needs to be brought back to life. What area did Soupy Sales live in, anyone know ???
@manbtm1
@manbtm1 Год назад
Soupy sales and his family just lived off the Harper exit in an area that’s called Morningside, bordering on another wonderful neighborhood , East English village with smaller homes built in the 1920s and 30s but they are absolutely gorgeous in detail, and the neighborhood is very solid. I know that because my best friend grew up three doors away from soupy sales.

Wow, some really nice homes, nice when each house is different. Detroit is the "Poster Child" on how bad politicians can ruin a once great American city. Changing the way you vote can change to outcome. "Wait What" did you say some of the homes are as large as 15,000 Sq Ft, think of the heating bill in bidens America. How about the Joseph Berry Subdivision: Fiske Dr, Lodge Dr and Parkview Dr. Thanks for posting.....

It was abandoned by the Big Three when auto industry diversified and moved to rural areas with no organized labor unions. When Young was elected the financial center collapsed and the “power “ built the city of Troy and literally left the city to rot.
