I absolutely love this book! It's honestly become my favorite one out of the "trilogy", (Blue Prayer Book and Green Psalter). The translation is great and the Hours are short enough to be done in a non-monastic setting, even when super busy. It's helped me both organize my day and keep my focus. I highly recommend people try incorporating the Hours in their schedule.
I did try to pray the old liturgy of the hours during Lent a decade ago. I do at least try to read, pray and meditate (western not eastern meditation) on God’s Holy Word every day. Now I’m a Protestant and my theology is more aligned with the Western Church than the Eastern Church but I also think the Nicene Creed is the basis of orthodoxy for all believers in Christ.
I’m a metalhead, and have been since the 80’s, and like you, am very much religious and collect prayer books, rosaries and such. Love your channel! God bless brother!
This book is fast becoming one of my favorites from HTM. At first I hated it because I thought "why would I want all of the hours except for vespers and compline when I pray the most?!" But then I've realized I can use typica or midnight service for sunday at those times. Well, that seems to work for me anyway. Thanks.
Hi! Today while I was reading/praying from my Agpeya/Agpia (which I learned about from your videos about a year ago), I looked up book of hours for EO and it's the first time I ever heard "Horologian". So of course, I scampered over here to see if you'd done a review and...yay! Thank you very much #OrthodoxReview, hope you and yours are safe and well.
Hey -- that's my book! 😁 Binding, right?! I used to work for a bookbinder, and it does my nerdy bibliophile heart good to see sewn, not glued, pages....
I enjoyed your review as I have many of the others on your channel. As a priest who was once part of HOCNA I agree of your assessment of their publications. I believe they are simply the best. As for the black nail decorations???
I got the Horologion 1997 monster-size edition which was kindly sent to me by the brothers of the HTM. It's awesome!.. I like watching my church buddies drop their jaws in surprise as they see this huge, beautifully-printed, icon-filled volume. They've never seen anything like this here in Siberia! 😁
What's the deal with schismatics putting out the best books? They almost always seem to be a cut above the canonical publications in terms of general quality. Like, the Jordanville is great in terms of content, but the paper quality is low in comparison to HTM books.
@@benharris7913I had a similar thought: they have to work extra hard to sell the book, and therefore cannot give up on quality where so many nowadays do. I two can feel the difference in quality between the Jordanville Prayer book & HTM Psalter. Because I love buying things, I’ll probably get more HTM products because I am a nerd.
Thank you for doing all these reviews they are very helpful to me especially because it’s hard to come by anything for Orthodox Christians in my area. You are thorough and answer a lot of questions.
Great you're into punk. I am too, as well as metal and new wave. Still love listening to the 80s where I was at as a teen. Anyway, have you reviewed any deacon and priest service book yet? I do have the Antiochian Liturgikon which has been very useful for me.
I paint my nails black all of the time. Looks great I think. Don’t be ashamed of it and feel you need to explain. You be you as a follower of Christ. I do not think God has a problem with it.
Loved the video, even though we are different denominations (I myself am Pentecostal) we are still one in Christ. Good wishes from a fellow disciple! ✝️💜☦️
Do you have the HTM Holy Week and Pascha book? Holy Week is soon, and I think that this it has the best translation and is both English and Greek, with the pascha bible verses in about 10 languages. It was Elder Panteleimons final wish for that book to be published.
