Should the reboot the DCEU? Should Cavill return?

The problem with the DCEU was that it has perfect casting for the most part with bad stories, so we as an audience would love to see what the cast could do with better stories but that ship has sailed. It needs a complete and total hard reboot in my opinion. Let the last couple of stories play out and then start fresh and be patient, like Marvel was in phase 1 & 2.

I think he was pretty clear about Us getting new iterations of Batman/Bruce Wayne and Superman/Clark Kent.

Gunn was in a literal no win scenario, hard reset or soft reboot he would catch flack. I think this is making the best of a bad scenario and if there's anyone I trust it's him.

So at some point, Gun teased Kingdom Come... If that's the end goal, then perhaps he's saving Cavill for the Elder Superman. The Superman who's hands could crush coal into diamond and crawled across human bone. The Superman who could hear a cell divide... If he is aiming that way, I'm all down for it.

A theory about Superman helping Amanda Waller was because he owed her for saving his life after Bloodsport shot him with the kryptonite bullet and put him in the hospital (as mentioned in The Suicide Squad).

I am so glad that you are putting these pieces together. It confirms what I am thinking. Yes, The Flash film will "reset the DCU". Perhaps that does not mean what we think? When Superman: Legacy begins the proper DCU could it be the beginning of a process of handing on the mantel of the legacy characters to the next generation. Could Cavill play an older Clark Kent who has lost his powers from too much time under the Red Sun of Earth (All-Star Superman) and is a mentor for his son Jon Kent the 25 year old DCU Superman? Jon who is half human might handle the radiation of the Earth's Sun in a way that his Father could not. This would actually fit with Cavill's Instagram video in which he says that "he will not wear the cape again." Likewise, could Affleck play an older Bruce Wayne who is confronted by the revelation that he has a son, Damien, who becomes the Robin to Dick Grayson's Batman (i.e. Grant Morrison's run)? It seems like this role would appeal to Affleck who has said that he wants to play in character stories such as "The Tender Bar" & "The Way Back". Plus, the image that they used during James Gunn announcement was an image of Dick Grayson in the Batsuit, and not Bruce Wayne.

Could’ve been all so easy: - keep the old cast - into the flash event (leave Ezra behind) and take just what worked and was promising - build the universe from there with follow ups to the heroes we got in younger, but piece by piece to have it naturally Would’ve saved years and the gap, the hassle and would’ve been easy with sense 😂 But no, part favourites from the old into the new, part new without any time to grow to the character, just simply some new and some not 🤦‍♂️

I hope they put a legit Flash story in the works after all of this because I would love to see a Flash that acted as the tie in between the dc movies in some way. Like he is the fastest man alive so it's likely he would be at any encounter that needed a hero so even if it is just someone like Shazam getting overwhelmed by a bunch of low level enemies and all of the sudden you see a red blur and that gives Shazam enough room to think. Then at the end of the movie you see Billy on google looking at new reports of the flash helping with things all over the globe or something

i don't necessarily mind the reboot; i just wish they'd actually listen to the fans & finish the snyderverse first

Gunn can't tell us that Ezra Miller's Flash and Jason Mamoa's Aquaman, not to mention Shazam, are not going to be part of the DCU before the movies come out. That would encourage people to not see them and that would hurt the studio. Let's see a year from now how the situation changes (if at all).

I can't shake the feeling that DCU will be doing the "Kingdom Come" storyline with older versions of the big three. If so, that could be where we see Affleck and Cavill return to the roles. Just a hunch.

4:01 a batman movie where the story is about bruce wanting to hand the title over to grayson, only for talia to bring damian and then figuring out that dynamic; with grayson and damian ultimately being the mew dynamic duo. i think theres enough in the comics for them to adapt this

What will happen with the Justice Society characters ? They did such a good job.

To me, they have to have something at the movies until the Flash movie, so the other films are Pre DCE and they can decide to keep them or not.

Among all of this, one of the biggest regret I'll personally always have is how two of the finest actors got wasted because of poor scripts nd decision making. Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck are among the best casting choices ever made for their respective roles. Shame they never truly got the treatment and glory they deserved.

"Reset" means everything that happened didn't happen. I'm tired of that copout.

What I dont get, is why James Gunn is doing a young Superman, but an old Batman. Old Batman considering that Damian Wayne comes after Dick Grayson, Jason Todd and Tim Drake, so it should be a very experienced Batman with a whole carreer under his belt, and a Superman that it just starting to expand his world.

I got really excited when I heard the possible plotline of a Flashpoint movie. Burton-verse Bruce Wayne (Michael Keaton) and Snyderverse Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) are recruited by Snyderverse Flash (Ezra Miller) to go back in time to stop Thomas Wayne (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), a bloodthirsty, murderous, powerful, and technologically advanced, villainous Batman in an another universe. Driven by the murder of this wife and son outside of an alley theater, Thomas Wayne as Batman has killed every known villain in his universe and has begun killing other heroes and supporters including Alfred and Commissioner Gordon. After killing Superman, The Flash from Thomas Wayne's universe is able to reach Synderverse Flash before he his killed by Thomas Wayne's Batman. The two Bruce Wayne Batman's fight must fight their alternate-universe father in his Batcave. The two Bruce's are overmatched and seemingly at their ends when Alfred (Michael Caine) appears to Thomas Wayne. Brought there by Ezra Miller's Flash, he explains to Thomas who he is and who the two Bruce's are. Trying to reason with him, Alfred is pushed to the ground and Thomas stands above him about to kill him... Thomas says: "These aren't my sons! My son was taken from me! My wife was taken from me! My whole world fell that night!" Alfred (Caine): "Why do we fall sir!?...So that we can learn to pick ourselves up". Thomas relents, drops his weapon, and falls to this knees at the feet of the two battered Bruce Waynes laying ahead of him. He remembers the night his his son and wife died and Alfred (Jeremy Irons) came to his side after returning home that night and quoted him the same words. Thomas Wayne begins to understand what he has done. The two Bruce Wayne's stand up and embrace Thomas and tell him that they lived on after watching their father and mother die in their universes. And that they also became the Batman in their own worlds, but used it as a force for good. As they embrace, the government approaches Wayne Manor and begins bombing in an attempt to destroy their villainous Batman once and for all. The mansion above them collapses as the cave crumbles around them. Thomas Wayne realizes that everybody will die in the Batcave if the bombing doesn't stop. He takes the Batwing and draws the government away so the Flash, the two Bruce Wayne's and Alfred can escape. As Flash prepares to return everybody to their own universes, they witness the Batwing with Thomas Wayne in it explode killing him. Shortly after, they are transported back home to each of their own universes. Both are shown standing over the graves of their father outside Wayne Manor as the Bat signal lights up in the dusk sky behind them.

If James Gunn's The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker are going to be Canon, to the DCU, does this mean the Justice League is already established, since they were in Peacemaker?

As I see, it's more easy to Christian Bale coming back as Batman then Affleck once there's already the precedent of the relationship with Talia Al Ghul

DC peaked during the animation boom of the 90’s and early 00’s. BTAS and JLU were the best adaptations of the comics we’ve gotten from them

How can it be a mistake? The current situation is a disaster. Any true DC fan should be ecstatic.

But it is a full reboot; Gunn created the “elseworlds” term so that The Batman and Joker and Blue Beetle and Aquaman and Shazam can exist, be released, and still remain relevant. I’d be willing to bet that after The Batman’s and Joker’s franchises finish up, they’ll just close that door and say “That was fun! But now we can all focus on this universe we’re building. I’m other words, no more “elseworlds” releases.

People loved Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, however I preferred him in Stargate Atlantis which was canceled way too soon, though I am sure he gets paid quite a bit more even for a so so movie with much shorter work days

This is a good theory, Ryan. However, the DCU needs to be a completely clean slate. It shouldn't have any ties to the DCEU. The new Batman should be Bruce, and the new Superman should be Clark.

Ben afllec would be perfect for a damien wayne robin storyline.

Look, Elseworlds gives the perfect platform to finish Cavill's story. Personally, I would start an entirely new universe, rebooting as Gunn is doing; however, I would bookend Cavill's story with an Elseworld movie where he becomes the Superman from the Injustice storyline after Amy Adam's Lois is killed. They were already hinting at that, although connected to Darkseid not Joker. Then, at some point you have good Supes from the main universe vs. controlfreak Supes in a multiverse battle. There are so many directions you could go, but this is what I'd do.

It feels like Gunn is building towards a "Kingdom Come" like arc in his universe. Just a thought.

I understand where you’re coming from. Because, according to the announcement, Shazam and Aquaman are a part of his universe, which is a bit weird. Not bad, but weird. However, I don’t see him continuing with Keaton or Affleck. I think he’s trying to phase out the Snyder Verse and make a new universe. He even says that. The flash basically creates a whole new universe. Which makes sense given flashpoint paradox. Which I think the movie is based on. I think he was ordered to say that Shazam and Aquaman, and maybe the flash was a part of his vision. But the thing that gets me, the most, is that there’s too much talking. I don’t really have faith in this until I see this happened. That’s one thing that Marvel does correctly. They don’t talk. They just do.

I think having a reboot like a new universe and keeping just some aspects of the previous universe and then have various coexisting franchises with the same characters that aren't in the main universe is very goofy and confusing, but that is also exactly how it is in the comics so it's on brand for DC. I don't think it's bad thing though, just goofy and confusing.

Forget the "slow build." The culmination of B v. S should have been Despero landing on Earth (not the totally worthless Doomsday) and Wonder Woman showing up with Aquaman, Flash, and Martian Manhunter to help Supes and Bats. Movie ends with Green Lantern showing up and saying "Darkseid is coming." That's all they needed to do. Justice League movie starts with a fully formed League. That's it.

As far as I can see, there's only one reason that they've held on to Shazam, Peter Safran is a producer on it. Yes, he's been given co-captain status of the whole ship, but this was his baby and he wants to hold on to it, especially if it makes money. They're going to make a decision after opening weekend for sure.

I’ve been a pretty big defender of MoS, BvS, and I actually really enjoyed ZS’s JL. But. That said, as a foundation for “Legacy”? I’m not sold. All the unconnected side projects may have done it in. I can see a world where (the incredibly reactive and desperate) WB wanted something like the MCU, but haven’t been willing to lay any groundwork. MoS and WW1 was about the most we got. I guess the Justice Society too? Anyway, I’m for a full reboot. I think they’re stuck because they waited too long to release Shazam, Flash & Aquaman 2. So the NEW WB have to play this game until at least the end of this year.

I think it would have been more expensive to reboot the entire universe considering some movies have already been made that are scheduled to come out soon

Affleck turned out to be my favorite Batman so far. He seemed to understand the subtlety of Batman vs Bruce Wayne. They're not much different, it's just a little bit of English on the ball. Conroyesque.

People seem to forget that DC (and Atlas Comics) were created at a time when heroes were heroes, and villains were villains. So everybody was bright, like Superman, and Wonder Woman, and people like Batman were on the outskirts (calling them vigilantes). Move this concept to the 2020s, and you get outdated characters, but there is a large yearning for these simpler times, where the good guys will always do good. The problem with the first efforts of DC in their movie production, was making ambiguously amoral superheroes so that they could fight the popularity ratings with Marvel, who have basically created a niche with "flawed" heroes. Thus we have "golden-aged" superheroes, being reinterpreted as darker, grittier or "flawed" heroes so that they fit modern and "flawed" reinterpretations. Then again, this is just my opinion.

Let’s be honest, casting is the only reason we stuck around for DC these past few years. It’s a shame, spectacular castings means we won’t have them for a finally cohesive DC Universe.

Current moviegoers have ruined the movie creating and watching experience. They constantly want information on the cast,trailers,backstories etc. How about just not watching any trailers or googling information to HELP you not set such high expectations! You know want to see the movie so what’s the point of watching the trailer on repeat and asking for different cuts of these trailers? Just goto the movies and be surprised on how great or crappy the movie is when you see it for the first time!
