Yep, it's wild. P5R is literally the highest rated JRPG of all time and P4G scored in the 90+ range for reviews. The same people that made those games have spent the last 8 years cooking this massive rpg. Even from what we know from the previews, it seems like it's going to be great. Nothing is certain, but it's insane to me that it seems to be flying under people's radar.
I love Persona games! Specifically P3-P5 but not really into SMT games. Not sure I’m if I’m in the minority or majority of what people think after seeing this game but the look of the characters isn’t interesting to me at all. Also, the world doesn’t look interesting imo. Maybe the story is amazing but for some reason this game isn’t connecting with me.
They should have named it Shin Megami Tensei: Metaphor Refantazio or Persona: Metaphor Refantazio, that's why they named P4 Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4, because SMT was a more well known brand in those times.
No they aren't. Honestly 90% of the people saying this are folding immediately if this gets good reception 😆 The only reason people are saying this now is because there's uncertainty with it being a new IP.
Been following the game for years and I'm definitely waiting and I know for a fact I'm not the only one. So pair waiting for Switch 2 and waiting for the whole game and plenty of reason to pass on launch. And worse case scenario and it sells like crap so they don't make DLC, pick it up for $20 later
@@SeeinHyrule You're never the only one but it makes no difference, people say that for every atlus game since p4 and it barely puts a dent in sales. People were saying that for SMT5 on switch and it still sold over 1 million easy. Wow 1000 people out of 500k that buys the game decided not to buy, big woop. Even the enhanced version sold over 1 million within a month so its not that many people that always wait, it never is. Also even atlus games that sell great go on sell pretty early within the same year. It bombing makes no difference cause soul hackers 2 didn't go on sale that fast and that bombed. P5 royal went on sales like 3 months in for digital for awhile and that sold great.
Funny enough the collector's edition for ps5 is sold out, but the series x/s version is readily available. I think more people are aware of this game than some are giving credit.
@@RoyalHustler09 I know. But Metaphor has been heavily showcased by xbox. Yet the presales are looking better with PS5, so this game will probably sell well, and won't be the "sleeper" that people are claiming it will be.
I'm definitely hype for Metaphor since it's reveal and last trailer. But thr fact it doesn't come out on Switch is what it missing for the hype to reach full potential.
3:00 I think what’s hurting the spread of news, is that Microsoft has an advertisement deal so most of the showcases don’t outright say it’s comes out on new gen and last gen consoles
I've been hyped for this game since last year and the reason it doesn't have that many people talking about it is because they refuse to move their release date up to September when Sparking Zero just had to put their release date on the same day. As well as people trying to remain spoiler free.
I believe there’s 2 main reason 1. Because of the Xbox marketing right - I barely see the trailer mentioned the PS consoles which has huge Persona fanbase 2. The name is too hard and tbh sound like a smaller JRPG game I believe this game will do well and that the GOTY nominess could be given to many Japanese game FF7 Rebirth Astro Bot Dragon’s Dogma 2 Methaphor
This has got so much style, definitely unlike anything else out there. The other games out there are all playing it safe, that includes FF and Astrobot.
Why do people keep comparing every atlus games to persona ? The original SMT5 review from IGN is already so bad and people keep doing it. The tweet mention at the beginning of the video call metaphor: refantazio a medival persona clearly haven't play a smt game. The demo show that metaphor: refantazio have a press turn battle system from smt and the music too. This is not the first time shoji meguro compose orchestra style, you should listen to smt strange journey ost. Main line smt games need attention too.
Because persona 5 unfortunately made persona go super mainstream it’s all people compare anything that has “sauce” now. Anything remotely with style and is and anime-esc game now gets compared to persona specifically 5
You’re the main person I have heard talking about this game truthfully. Your enthusiasm has really got me excited for this game! I may not have even known about it otherwise
Its min specs barely cover the Steam Deck, idk, I'm thinking it won't be able to run on the Switch. The min specs listed on Steam for SMT V are way lower than Metaphor, and yet that ran like crap on Switch.
About time Oj put out another Metaphor ReFantazio video. But, I can understand why the hype is low. It’s being poorly promoted. Releasing the same week as Silent Hill 2 Remake and Dragonball Sparking Zero also doesn’t help. Metaphor will be one of those games that blow up on release week when the positive reviews roll in.
Poorly promoted how? They have dropped story, characters, and world trailers as well as flew out youtubers to a big event to play like 3 hours and give their thoughts. Sparking Zero dropped their release date after Metaphor so it's not their fault.
they've been HEAVILY marketing and promoting this game, its not poorly promoted at all. Metaphor's release date was revealed way before sparking zero revealed their date. Main reason its not getting talked about as much is cause Expedition 33 is taking the spot light unfortunately due to its western Normie appeal
@@BladeVoltz I don't think that's the reason. There was already no hype around the game before Expedition 33 was announced and Expedition 33 is only going to release next year. That being said I'm really excited for both games.
I feel like some people see the title of the game and just write it off as some small niche JRPG. For me tho I’m extremely excited for a new IP from ATLUS. Definitely a contender for game of the year.
Every time I see someone online just compare this game to Persona and overlook the elements of other Atlus IPs it incorporates (or the fact that Persona is made up of more than just "slap a friendship mechanic and cool summons onto a JRPG") I feel the familiar mental pain of disappointment towards humankind.
I'm already sold on this game... there's too many information on atlus channel and a lot of youtuber talking about this game last month..? Going full blank on this game to enjoy this to the fullest 👍
Same. Game looks just like the kind of game I love. art style and music alone makes me excited then knowing the people behind it. Lets go! Can't wait to play.
1. People saw atlus marketing the game as ''third pillar'' aka another franchise to farm re-releases and dlc like the persona/smt franchises. Cant blame people to hold off for inevitable sale and complete editon. 2. Not enough to seperate itself from either persona as the game will indoubetly heavy in dialogue or from SMT semi open world design. Cinematics look peak tho. 3. its october like there's 9999 games coming in that month same day as dragon ball zero.... SMH
I HIGHLY disagree with the take that Metaphor isn't being talked about. In fact, most JRPG fans are talking about it. The only ones who don't know about it are the normies, and they aren't the core audience for these games. Also, Push Square's take of Atlus not wanting people to know it's on PlayStation is a BRAIN DEAD take. Then again, that site is often lazy.
Why wouldn't they want people to know where they can play their games on? It's more money for them. lol It's seems MS has a marketing deal for the game, so that's why the focus is on XB.
Excluding Nintendo stuff; the top 3 most popular games thrown around for proposals of GOTY are Black Myth Wukong, Astro Bot, and Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2. Black Myth Wukong seems most popular of those three, Astro Bot was the most critically acclaimed PS5 exclusive game of the year and most consistently positive reviews of those three, Space Marine 2 is another game video game adaptation of another table top franchise. Knowing The Game Awards, they'd probably either chose BMW due to the achievement of its sales relative to background, but I have my own of course. My choice for GOTY once it comes out is Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Gotta to love the best of both worlds scenario. Otherwise, Mario & Luigi Brothership looks like it's going to be amazing too.
Black myth wukong isn’t even that good, the story is dogwater. It’s extremely overhyped because of the graphics and combat (which isn’t even that crazy). But people are braindead, so i wouldn’t put it past people if it received GOTY.
@@critical_6164 I agree it's not as good as its reputation, but I wouldn't call it bad. But knowing TGA track record; nobody asked for TLAO2 as GOTY 2020. But knowing them, they would just give it to them.
I don’t know if they’re sleeping on it so much as waiting for it to come out before commenting. I mean, at this point what can you say other than, “I like Atlus and this looks interesting?” Got to wait for reviewers to get their hands on it and let’s plays to come out before we can really see how the Atlus devs translate a design philosophy focusing on social stats, forming relationships, managing time, monster collecting, etc. into a fantasy setting.
I'm an Xbox gamer and I'm really looking forward to Metaphor ReFatazio. I'm also happy that Microsoft has finally reached the tipping point and is starting to bring more Japanese RPGs to their platform. First Visions of Mana and now this game. I also hope that Final Fantasy 16 and 7 will come to Xbox at some point. Don't get me wrong, I want this game to succeed so I hope the fans on Playstation don't miss it.
It is a potentially good game based on the storyline. However, some of me will be slightly annoyed despite being a "J"RPG fan of what the Atlas game does. The extra fluff dialogue for the "true ending." bloats the game time more than it should
People need to cast aside their pre conceived notions of this game and actually pay attention to it without simply writing it off because it's "anime". This game is a brand new IP in an industry that's been going the way of remakes and remasters for far too long, where companies are too scared to experiment with creativity or new ideas. The fact that people are ridiculously turning a blind eye to this game is shameful and should be reprimanded wherever possible. The overwhelming cynicism that people have for new IPs is quite frankly disgusting, especially when there are _no visible flaws_ where Metaphor is concerned. This game should be topping preorder charts, and yet it isn't this game that's getting them, but the 100th copy/paste job Dragonball game is, which is injustice in its purest form. People, if you have any desire to see this industry change its ways, then get out there and support this game. I'm damned tired of people supporting dogshit while letting gems like these fail for no justifiable reason.
I can't wait for this game. This and Echoes of Wisdom are the two games for the rest of the year that Im chomping at the bit to play. Hopefully I can finish up Episode Aigis and Echoes before this game comes out, because it looks like this is the only thing Im going to want to play until I roll credits.
Here’s the deal. The devs know what they had. This games story is going to expand beyond just fantasy to surprise and blind side the players. Similar to what p5 did. This game is bubbling under the surface, just wait until it hits and explodes.
Shout-outs to some of your video for hyping up Metaphor in the JRPG communities OJ. I would really like to jump in and pick it up but personally I want to wait for any giveaways that pop up online. Keep it up man, you’re doing great. 😎👍
The big fact to face is that the Xbox just doesn't sell in Japan (IIRC at one point the Xbox Ones had less sales than the Wii which has been discontinued for years) so it's clear the Xboxey marketing is an attempt for Microsoft to shift more consoles to JRPG players maybe? (Me, I'm waiting for the Switch 2 and the inevitable Golden/Royal/Redux/Overclock/Vengeance version, which has been their money-fleecing solution for the past two decades)
2002 - Square enix is on top of the RPG world and Sega is on the bink of closing down. 2024 - Square Enix is closing studios, Sega ( Atlus ) is the best RPG provider
I've been eyeing this game since it was first shown. Really liked what I saw from previews and decided to pre-order the game. Love the people behind the game. Only thing I'm unsure is? Is how the story will land. Hoping the characters and story is great. I don't doubt the gameplay or music.
Been following this game since they revealed it. It has mostly gone under the radar in terms of hype outside of big Atlas fans like myself. I'm glad a lot of my favorite content creators have been covering it though because it deserves a lot of love. It has the potential to be Atlas' 3rd Pillar game
Too many games coming out. Even in October Ys 10 is bigger I'd argue plus of course DBZ Sparking. Most people if they are choosing between will pick DBZ. I'm excited for it but I haven't even completed P3 reload yet. So I'll probably wait for a sale which will probably come fairly quickly
This will likely be my game of the year. It’s already checking a lot of boxes, based on trailers themselves. Space Marine 2, Astro Bot, FFVII Rebirth, Vanilla Helldivers (R.I.P), and now THIS gem!? We’re eating good this year 🤌🏼✨that collectors edition is looking mighty fine too! 👀
I mean... this game is oozing with style, soooo good. and I love the point they're making at investing in designing the UI as a main experience for the player.
yeah... i do think this game doesn't get enough hype and just like you said so many popular games is released on those months won't help this game either, but i believe it'll get the hype it deserved when the game released week after. Atlus mostly delivering good games so im confident.
I'm hoping this gets the Baldur's Gate 3 effect, I've played it in Early Access with only Act1 playable and hype was minimal, only people who were really in the genre knew it's a masterpiece but only after release it became a mainstream success because it was just amazing. I feel like calling it Fantasy Persona is good because that sums it up for people who don't know anything about it and a fantasy version of Persona by the makers of Persona 3-4-5 is kind of a guarantee that it's going to be good. Also it would just help if Atlus clearly said they won't make a Gold/Royal/Re-Refantasized edition of the game in 2 years. But if people really wait for that edition for 2 years... have fun with the waiting, I'd rather be playing it.
Funny you mention this today as today I tweeed that “I was today years old that realised it was on PS5.” With all the marketing I’ve seen I assumed it was an Xbox/pc exclusive. The only reason I found out about it was because I was browsing the Ps store on my ps5 and saw it there for pre order. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are people that are assuming it’s an Xbox /pc exclusive.
If Atlus/Sega is that crazy to associate their new RPG with Xbox(yeah they are)then they deserve the poor sales coming from that console, should have focused on PS and PC and having a Switch 2 port ready for launch. Personally as an RPG fan looking to be impressed,I’m not excited for this game, its graphics and story is just not appealing to me!
When I first heard about this game I thought it was only on Xbox, which was disappointing. I had to hunt around to find out it was on PlayStation. Can’t wait for this game!!
I think once the game gets close to release and all the good reviews it’ll most likely get people will start to take notice of the game. While it’s cool seeing it come to Xbox. I think the marketing deal Sega/Atlus has with Microsoft when it comes to JRPGs isn’t helping seeing most folks who plays those type of games are on PC, PlayStation & Nintendo oh and that bland name also doesn’t help. Not saying that there aren’t people on Xbox playing them of course there are, but it’s pretty freaking small by comparison. Love seeing the game get good previews, but me personally I’m going to hold off buying it. Didn’t purchase any game from Atlus this year besides Unicorn Overlord & SMT5: Vengeance. Atlus definitely got my money once Metaphor and P3 Reload (hopefully Soul Hackers 2) comes to the Switch Successor. Hope those getting it on PC, PS or Xbox have a total blast with them.
This game definitely interested me, however I’d personally prefer to have it available on the Nintendo switch as I’d like to play it handheld instead of tethered to a home console 👻 So I’ll be passing and just watching someone else play it as theirs other games I’d prefer to spend money on. If it was on the switch or even the switch new system 🤔 I’d definitely by it however
To be honest when perosna 3 and 4 first came our on ps2 there was next to no marketing on these titles. I believe persona 4 was made at the end of the ps2 lifespan and ps3 had already been put for around a year possibly longer. So it's crazy anyone got to play P4, I think luckily the games have still managed to be successful despite poor marketing and I'm sure metaphor will be the same. Although long time fans are also worried that a better bigger edition will come out later down the line and at a cheaper price.
Game looks great. The name not helping things. Refantazio? Who is the marketing genius that approved that. It doesn’t sound like a AAA game title. I’m hyped for it though.
This game is not coming to the current switch consoles. Atlus could be waiting for Nintendo to announce the switch 2 first. Before releasing the game on the switch 2 console next year. Who knows. Metaphor could be a third party switch 2 launch title for next year.
Liked, subbed, and commenting soley for the chance at winning the collectors edition on PS5. Although after sticking through the whole vid, kinda glad to peep more of your vids!
I feel like the main reason its not getting that much attention is because: the gameplay is the same turned based system thats been used for decades the setting is sorta abstract medieval instead of being the far future or present day and the dialogue(at least in my opinion) is pretentious. people talking like its the second renaissance isnt appealing to the average consumer, they dont like when every character talks as if they're already in their 40s. im interested in playing the game in spite of that as long as i can see some unexpected story twist, and challenging bosses
All of those are non factors. The TB combat is not the same Plenty of IPs do the whole classic fantasy approach. BG3 and Elden Ring did it. FF has had a history of very successful medieval fantasy games. European VAs doesn't mean they're talking like it's the second renaissance lmao. The main reason is because it's a new IP and JRPGs and the Microsoft marketing.
@@bobgren2767 "i pray those scoundrels make haste amongst the apothecaries. or else they shall rue the day they impeded thine throne!" its like that in metaphor, but not as bad. the only thing I myself dont like about the game is those persona-like things you use. they all are lacking in color and dont look very appealing. as long as they have unique skill animations idc.
The reception of this game has been so low because it was announced on platforms that have been huge disappointments these past weeks (months in the case of the green system).
6:12 😂😂😂 By the way, i'll definitely be buying this one on the switch 2 when it releases there. it looks like a one in a generation rpg, and the step up compared to smtV and p5 is tremendous. literally can't wait
