I like that guy, he's a Ford guy! Made it obvious though he rolled up in a F250 SD. My father-in-law started his own parking lot sweeping business with an Isuzu NPR with the vac system ran by a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder diesel engine. I took his place a few times, my wife worked with him on it. Those trucks are expensive to run and maintain. But they get the job done.

Steve, when I was young (late 50’s/early 60’s) it was a thrill when we would go to the airport in Avoca and watch the old Lockeed Constelations land and take off. Every once in a while, we would get to have Sunday dinner on the second floor of the airport….this was all before Route 81 was even under construction. Tom

It great to see other successful small business people like you, Widmeyer the places you picked up and delivered the truck to in NY. You guys were having a great conversation. I was good to find out about how you started in the business and ended up with Widmeyer. I hope you made it on time to your next stop. I bet Orwell was huffing up that long upgrade on I-84 shortly after getting into NY. As to Orwell's look, it has 'patina'. You discussed driving one of those vacuum sweepers long distances would be difficult. In 1980 my brother and the owner of a company who did parking lot sweeping flew down to Waco, TX to pick up a new machine on a Ford 'Louisville' chassis with the small Cat diesel engine. It was when there was a record long and severe heat wave in Texas, the flight from DFW to Waco was quite wild due to the heat. They drove all he way back to New Jersey, taking turns, there was no a/c in the truck. They had to stop for a repair near I think Memphis (?) due to an oil leak in the engine. It was a long trip.

We call them roundabouts,, Steve , I think there alot better than stop lights, if there's nothing approaching from my right your left keep on trucking, stopping at lights is a pain in the ass.

I used to trash around in that Petro quite a bit. I used to pick up lift chair mechanisms out of Exeter. I wasn't exactly sure where you were until i seen that hill you have to climb to get in there.

Steve, SAD, exactly alludes to how you feel when winter typically deprives us often of bright sunny weather. My usaf tour included a year remote from Thule Air Base, part of which was the "dark season" when the sun didn't shine. That affected guys without faith harshly. Be safe.

That T-Force set of doubles that passed you used to be UPS Freight/before that it was Overnite Trucking, based out of Richmond, Va. They were started and owned by Howard Cochran and his Wife forever-until they retired. That was a local company that once you went to work there=-you stayed until retirement. The Cochran's donated much money to a lot of local causes. Just my .02

Thank you for showing what "actively monitored" is for. It was a valuable addition to trucker path. I would go past DOT locations an the law would be in there but the lights would be off. I would flag it as open as it will soon be open. They have remotes for the lights so they can turn on the lights at any time to compulsorily invite in more unwilling clients. Then someone else would flag it as closed. The third option resolved this problem.

Oh yeah I remember the radar detectors I've been driving trucks 41 years I'm 59 they made it illegal to have them in a commercial vehicles but yet they sold them in truck stops and I remember going into Canada got caught using one crossing the bridge Blue water bridge from Port Huron Michigan into Sarnia Ontario Canada they gave me a choice either pay the ticket or put the radar detector in front of the tire of the truck and run over it I put it in front of the tire and ran over it but that's how we used to do it back then if you got caught with a radar detector like going up into Canada cuz I had the same thing happen the friends of mine they would give you a choice run it over or get a ticket

That Kenworth Cabover is what my grandparents had. There's was black and white just like the truck in the TV Show BJ and the Bear. Hey my wife is also 5'0" and I am 6'5" when we got married. She has me cover my eyes and I did. Next thing I hear is people going that's the way to do it and be at the same height. I am thinking same height. She grabs the step stool from behind where the pastor was standing at. She gets it and sets it right in front of me. She goes baby don't move I said ok. I hear her say help wrap it (part's of her dress) around it. I am like huh. She says ok open your eyes and I was like that's cool same height has me. I am like how are u like that. I figured she had on those things that painters and those who does dry walls stand on to be 2-3 feet taller. She was like nope step stool. We did our vows and then got married. Then she got down and we did our pics of me squat down even height next to her.

Also, that area has been hit hard by the emerald ash borer. I rode my motorcycle to Key West and Arizona yearly and passed through that area and noticed the decline and death of many of the stately hardwood.

Radar detectors are still illegal in the Communistwealth of Virginia. It is my understanding that radar is not even used for speed enforcement like it was decades ago, police switched to laser systems for speed enforcement, yet radar detectors are still illegal in the Commiewealth.

Snow-pocalypse? Talk to the guys who got stranded on I-80 in Truckee going over Donner Pass. Even if you didn't get stuck on (& towed from) the highway, it was still four days shut down in a barely open town, and then extracting your truck from six feet of snow....

You are aware that in the driving lanes, sensors transmitting data to that stainless steel enclosures that that unit is wired or vpn to monitor and receiving that weight in motion from the mainline. We have a couple of them there setups in NC. 421 northbound before the rest area they pull you into after blasting down the entrance ramp where they sit.
